Chapter 88
Donovon’s POV
The snapping of bones and surprised gasps of my mother reaches my ears, but I am least concerned to notice anything other than my Ivory as my gaze is fixed on the unmoving girl before my sight.
"Donovon..."
Her faint voice rings in my mind and that is all it takes for me to gather my strength as I push myself off to my feet and run towards her while the hope which died ignites inside me once again.
Oliver’s body jerks as his body starts to complete its transformation. I would have been overjoyed to witness this miracle only if my mate was not suffering.
Crouching beside Ivory, I take in her unconscious form as something bitter clutches my heart while the feeling of hatred towards Moon Goddess swirls inside me.
It is all because of her that my Ivory has to go through all this.
Picking her up, I ignore everyone as I rush inside the house holding her close against my chest. Gently placing her on the bed, I swallow the lump as I notice bruising appearing on her skin.
Pulling the covers over her body, I try to call Fire, but she doesn’t respond while Ivory is barely moving. The only thing which is stopping me from going insane is her slow but steady heartbeat.
I hear footsteps entering the room, but the threatening growl which erupts from me stops them in their tracks. I don’t want anyone near my Ivory.
“Donovon, she is fine.” Dad slowly speaks trying to calm me down, clearly, he can hear that her heart is beating that's why he sounds relieved. His relieved tone infuriates me.
I haven’t ever hated my dad, but at this moment I hate him.
“Fine?” I look at him in disbelief, as my tone rises in anger, “This is what you call fine?” I yank the covers off her body, for them to see the ugly bruising marring my Ivory’s body.
“She is barely unconscious and you say that she is fine?” I humorless chuckle leave my lips, I watch them looking at Ivory with a pain-filled gaze as their eyes take her beaten up form.
“Alpha!” A small shaky voice captures my attention, as Oliver’s trembling form comes in my view.
A large shirt is swallowing his small body, making him look even more vulnerable.
I want to hate him because somewhere because of him Ivory is suffering, but I can’t. Because I know whatever happened is not his fault.
“Are you okay?” I soften my tone because he seems pretty shaken up, as Ivory is not the only one who has suffered even he went through the pain which he shouldn't have gone through in the first place.
“How is she?” He asks instead of replying as his eyes hold sadness.
“I don’t know,” I sigh and reply to him honestly.
He looks at me then he shifts his eyes to Ivory, slowly walking to her he kisses her cheek.
“Please, be okay.” He cries holding her hand. “I love you.”
“Shhh... don’t cry.” Kneeling next to him, I wrap my arm around him as we both watch Ivory, “She doesn’t like it when kids cry and we don’t want to do anything which she doesn’t like, right?” I look at Oliver.
He quickly wipes his tears with hands and nods his head.
“Donovon.” Ivory’s lips move in a small whisper.
“Hey, I am here.” Quickly, sitting beside her I gather her in my arms.
“It hurts.” She slowly opens her eyes, with a small whimper.
“What hurts?” I kiss her head and gently ask her.
“Everything.” She cries as instinctually I pull her closer almost crushing her wanting nothing but to take her pain away.
A small sigh leaves her lips as she settles against me.
“Can you please lie with me?” She requests as she presses her face against my chest.
"Leave.“My eyes connect with everyone as I order them through the mind link.
Instantly, everyone walks outside the room and closes the door giving us privacy.
Unwrapping my arms from around her, I move away from her which makes her groan in protest.
After removing my shirt, I help her get out of her clothes leaving her in undergarments. The warmth of my body will provide her comfort and lessen her pain.
However, my jaws clench in anger, as all her bruises become visible to my eyes, it feels like somebody has beaten every inch of her body.
“Why?” I can’t help but ask her as I stare at the ugly marks covering her skin. "Why did you put yourself in danger?"
“He saved our daughter...” She gives a pain-filled smile to me, “How could I have left him to suffer?”
My eyes snap to her in shock. Quickly, I check on Ella heightening my senses and relax when I feel her sleeping in her room beside ours.
“His pain was not the only thing that I have felt. I got a glimpse of the torment that he suffered.” She takes a ragged breath as tear slips from the corner of her eyes, “He didn’t let them get anywhere near her, even when they have beaten him to death.”
There are a lot of questions that are flooding in my mind. But all of them seem secondary as for now, my priority is the wellbeing of my mate.
Pushing every thought aside I get inside the bed and gently hold Ivory in my arms, covering her body as much as I can with mine.
"Try to relax," I softly speak to her, running my hand up and down on her back, "We will sort everything soon." I press my lips to her forehead as I feel her relaxing in my hold.
Her breathing becomes even as she falls asleep in my arms. This momentarily gives me peace knowing that she is safe, however, I can't shake off the feeling of something big is about to happen.
