Chapter 85
Our life is almost getting back to normal, but still, something doesn’t feel right. It’s like I am always on the edge like I am waiting for something to happen.
Even Donovon feels the same, but we both are trying to cherish our present which is beautiful. Because these past few days have taught us to live the present to the fullest because you never know what the future holds for you.
But this doesn’t mean we are living in some kind of bubble, we are aware of the danger that is lurking around us and know that we have to be prepared to face it.
By killing Emma, and weakening the spell, we have already given a clear message to the one who is behind all this, that we are not as weak as we were before. So, they must be preparing for something big this time, something which might be much worse than before.
But the question is how to prepare ourselves from this unknown danger?
We don’t even know who is behind all this. It is like we are standing in the dark and we know the enemy can attack us from anywhere, but we have no choice but to wait for the attack.
This waiting game is making me restless, it is like living with a constant feeling of anxiousness... being worried about what might happen next.
But then again we don’t have any other choice than to wait.
“Concentrate, Ivy.” Gavin’s stern voice snaps me back from my thoughts, “Losing your focus means losing your life.” He glares at me from the side of the ground.
“I am sorry.” I nod my head at him.
“You will feel sorry for yourself when that beast will tear you apart.” His sharp tone makes me flinch, but then Gavin never holds back his words, no matter how harsh he sounds.
He is really strict when it comes to training, he gives a hundred percent and in return also he demands a hundred percent. No lacking is acceptable if you lack somewhere then be ready to face his wrath.
Keeping my mouth shut, my eyes shift back to Luca’s wolf in front of me. He is pacing and if the wolf has a bored expression, his face would exactly look like the look which Luca’s wolf is giving me.
“C’mon take your position, and engage.” Gavin’s voice boom and I swear Luca’s wolf has rolled his eyes because Gavin always trains us like he is training an army, not both of us.
But I know even Luca never holds back when he is attacking, so his playful behavior is just an act of misleading. Trust me, I have learned this after he broke my leg and left me with several bruises when he playfully attacked me.
So, now I never buy his playful antics and don’t underestimate him.
All his playfulness leaves his eyes when he runs towards me at full speed, but I hold my stance ready to block his attack. I nearly see stars when he collides against me. I slightly stumble but don’t lose my footing.
Instantly, I wind my arms around his large neck, but twisting his head he tries to bite my arm. And by trying I mean he bites my arm but doesn’t take out a chunk of it.
“Don’t let go of your hold on him,” Gavin instructs, “Choke him tightly, and buy this time to think of your next move because you will not be able to hold him down for long as he has already injured you.”
Luca’s hind leg somewhat looks to be in an odd angle, and as soon as I have noticed this I slam my foot as hard as I can on his leg. And when his bone crunches under my foot a feeling of satisfaction surges through me.
He howls in pain and using this moment of distraction I throw him on the ground.
Not wasting a second, I jump on him and land hard blows on the side of his muzzle and temple then lastly I touch my fist at his jugular which means that I have killed him.
He plays being dead for a while as I step away from him, but never let my guard down because he cheats. When Gavin comes and pats my shoulder then only I relax as it means the fight is over.
“You were okay.” Gavin nods his head at me, which makes me frown at him.
“Okay? Just okay?” I complain, “At least say I was good.”
“If you were good then you would not have let him injured you.” He points at my bleeding arm, “Your defenses have improved, but still, you need to work on them more. You can’t win any fight just being offensive, sometimes good defenses also damage the enemy.”
I turn my face away when Luca shifts back and Gavin throws a pair of shorts at him.
Once he is covered I turn to look at him and feel bad looking at him.
His face is swelling from one side, while his leg is broken from near his knee.
“You were good.” He winces when he smiles as he limps towards me.
“I am sorry.” I can’t help but feel guilty, looking at him.
“I am a tough guy, I can handle these little scratches.” He winks, “So, don’t worry.”
“Since you have killed me.” He makes air quotes with his fingers, “Let’s celebrate your win with some delicious burgers made by our Gavin.”
“Yeah, but first let’s get your leg fixed before it gets healed this way,” Gavin says and at the same time, and he adjusts Luca’s bone making him scream like a banshee.
“Tough guy.” Gavin scoffs while I burst out laughing.
James has only allowed Gavin and Luca to train me because he doesn’t trust anyone. Since they both have taken a blood oath. along with Jenna, they are loyal to me and will protect me, so no one can use them against me.
Gavin always trains me and Jenna alone because he believes no one should know our strengths and weakness. I also train with other wolves, but it is more like a warm-up rather than actual training.
“Okay, guys, I have to get back home now, as Ella must be getting restless since Donovon is also not with her,” I inform them, and Gavin shifts into his wolf after a few minutes even Luca shifts ready to follow me back to the house.
Gavin and Luca are protective of me like a brother and support me like a friend. They are like my family, and I can always count on them.
I stop walking, when I near the packhouse, and look around as I hear a whimpering sound coming from somewhere near.
Sharing a look with Gavin and Luca, I follow the sound of the whimpering as a familiar scent reaches my nose. Instantly, rage engulfs me when my eyes land on badly beaten Oliver.
