Chapter 71
Donovon’s POV
I have met James once or twice before, so I recognized him but as the Alpha of Wolfmoon pack... not as Ivory’s brother.
From his attitude, I can sense he is not fond of me. Later my this thought was confirmed when he approached me and told me that even though he knows my actions were not my fault, but this doesn’t mean he can overlook that I have hurt his sister.
It will take him some time to forgive me, but for now, he is willing to help me just for the sake of Ivory.
I don’t mind his anger, as if there is any other brother in place of his even he would have felt the same. In fact, even after his hatred towards me, he is helping me... shows that he is a genuinely kind-hearted person.
From the corner of the eye, I see Ivory walking in the living room where we all trying to come with a plan to find out who else is with Emma because she can’t pull all this without any help.
Slightly shifting on the couch, I open my arm for her, and she comes and sits in my lap while putting her arm around my shoulder as her focus is on something which James is saying.
This gesture seems so natural to us, like this is how we used to be. There is not a little bit of hesitancy from any of us, we are just so comfortable with each other.
When I look around I notice no one finds our behavior odd making me realize we must have been always this close so that’s why it even seems normal to everyone.
I observe Micah, who is sitting near the window away from everyone, that he doesn’t mingle with anyone. He mostly keeps to himself and speaks only when he feels like necessary. However, when he is around me or Ivory, he is a different person less reserved and more open.
Maybe he trusts us enough to be himself.
“Are you fucking out of your mind?” My attention turns back to the conversation as James’s angry voice booms in the room, “I am not going to let you do this stupidity.” He glares at Ivory making her flinch.
“Watch your tone, James,” I say sternly as anger swirls inside me not liking the way he spoke to her.
“Stay out of this, Donovon.” He glares at me, “You don’t know shit and so don’t interfere between me and her.”
I am about to reply to him when Ivory gently shakes her head at me. I clamp my mouth shut while clenching my jaws.
“James, I know you want to protect me,” she speaks to him in a calm tone, “But if we want to find out who is behind all this, it is necessary for them to know where I am.”
“We have decided this time we are going to be the one who is going to strike them first, so for that we have to force them out of their hiding.” Raising her eyebrows, she nods her head.
“I know you are right, but we are not going to use you as bait and that’s final!” He says with finality, “We will figure it out something else.”
“I agree, on this, with him.” I glance at Ivory because no matter what I can let her put herself in danger.
“Why can’t you guys see that they want me! Every time when any attack happened on Donovon it was because of me” She throws her hands up in the air in frustration as she stands up, “Your biggest strength and your biggest weakness is your mate. That’s why every time they targetted Donovon, to indirectly hurt me. They tried to take away from me everything which mattered to me the most... my friend, my mate... my child. And to some extent they are successful.” She shrugs looking at the floor, while her voice gives away her hurt.
“Whoever has done this spell on Donovon wants me, not him. They chose Emma to be the pawn in their game, as she’s willing to go to any lengths to get him not caring about right or wrong. She helped them by removing me from his life, and in return, she got what she always wanted.” Pain etches on her face when her eyes land on my neck.
“If we want to end this, then we have to give them an opportunity to reach me.” She growls as anger slipping into her words.
“Why do they want her?” I ask completely feeling confused.
“Because of her goddamn blessing,” James answers in an annoyed tone, “Moon Goddess has made her a wishing well. Sacrifice a drop of her to Moon Goddess and she will grant your wish.” He speaks through gritted teeth.
“No, this not how her blessing works,” Micah speaks for the first time in hours. “She is special because she is born with not one, but two blessings. She is a healer and a protector.” He looks at Ivory.
“And every time when she uses her power, a small part of her life force is returned to Moon Goddess.” There is a dreamy and unfocused look in his eyes, as he glances Ivory.
“But this was what we have been informed by an old witch, that if anyone will offer her blood to Moon Goddess on Wolfmoon their wish will be granted.” James frowns, looking at him in disbelief.
“She’s not entirely wrong.” Micah shakes his head, as his eyes get back to normal, “What’s anyone’s biggest wish would be? To be healed... to be free of every kind of pain and heartache. And when Ivory uses her power to heal someone their wish is fulfilled, while a drop of her life is sacrificed to Moon Goddess in return. And when she uses her powers to protect someone she takes all their attacks on herself, again it is a sacrifice she makes for others.”
“She saves others while sacrificing herself.” He glances at Ivory with a look that can only be identified as reverence. “That’s why every time she uses her power her body becomes weak, for some time, because of the loss of her life force.”
“How can I save him, Micah?” She asks looking at him like he will know the answer to her every question.
“Even your powers have limitations, my Moon.” He gives her a rueful smile, “They have used the forbidden cast on him which can only be lifted by the person who has placed this cast, or it will break itself with the death of that person.”
“Then we should prepare to kill that person.” Ivory feature darkens, as coldness settles into her eyes completely contrast to the warmth that her eyes always held.
