Chapter 38
My hands become sweaty as I tighten my grip on my bouquet so it doesn’t slip out of my hand. Bringing the bouquet near my face, I inhale deeply trying to calm my nerves.
The sweet scent of gardenia temporarily calms me, but then the anticipation of seeing Donovon is setting butterflies free in my stomach.
Julia and Jenna have gone outside to bring Donovon so that we can meet before the ceremony. Julia is going to divert everyone’s attention while Jenna will bring Donovon inside. I don’t know how they are going to do this in front of hundreds of people but I trust them.
I touch my flower headband, nervously, hoping it will stay on my head and don’t slip down my hair. Even though it was difficult to put it on without looking in the mirror, and fixing it with hairpins, but I don’t want to look myself even in the mirror before Donovon.
My heart jumps into my throat when abruptly my room’s window slides open and before I can get my hand on something Donovon jumps inside the room with a worried expression. Instantly, I release a sigh of relief and now my heart starts pounding against my chest for an entirely different reason.
“What happen-” Donovon stops in mid-sentence as his eyes land on me and suddenly I start feeling self-conscious.
His worried expression changes into a surprise one. His mouth slightly opens while his eyebrows shoot up, as I swallow nervously not being able to judge his reaction. Is it a good surprise or a bad surprise?
“I want you to be the first one to see me,” I quietly speak as I watch him taking slow steps towards me.
“How am I looking?” I ask him, shifting from my one foot to another uneasily because his face is not giving away much.
“Donovon,” I call him, “You are making me nervous,” I admit honestly.
“Fuck!” He runs his hand over his face and shakes his head to himself with a light chuckle.
Then a smile breaks on his lips as he stands in front of me.
“You are looking beautiful, even more, beautiful than I have imagined.” He brushes the back of his hand down my arm leaving tingles in its wake, and slips his hand in mine.
His words bring a smile on my face as he weaves our fingers together and forms a fist joining our hands.
“No, actually, now you are looking absolutely beautiful.” He brings our hands near his mouth and touches his lips at the back of my hand. “This smile was missing earlier.” Leaning forward, he pecks my smile as my cheeks feel hot.
Stepping away from him, I turn around but gripping my hand he pulls me back to himself.
“And where do you think you are going?” Slowly nodding his head, he arches an eyebrow.
“To see myself in the mirror.” I again touch my headband, and nod my head towards the mirror, “I haven’t seen the mirror, yet. I wanted you to be the first one to see me when I am completely ready for the ceremony. So, after Julia and Jenna left to bring you, I finished getting ready. It was a bit difficult to not know what I am doing as this is the first time I did my hair without looking in the mirror.” I smile and shrug.
Jenna has earlier styled my hair in some updo, but then I remember Donovon likes it more when I keep my hair down. So, when they both left, I undid my hair and straighten them up as my hair had become wavy due to styling. Then making a crown braid I fixed the headband on it, as otherwise, it was impossible for me to wear this flower headband which Donovon has brought for me along with the bouquet.
Half-smile lifts his lips as he brushes my hair away from my shoulder and runs his thumb on my mark a few times immediately sending shivers throughout my body as goosebumps rise on my skin.
My eyes close on their own at this feeling which awakens every cell in my body, cocooning me in a wonderful warmth.
Opening my eyes, I find him still looking at me with a soft smile playing on his lips.
“My beautiful mate.” He murmurs locking his eyes with mine. The look in his eyes assures me that I don’t need to see the mirror. Because it doesn’t matter to me how I am looking to anyone, I only want to good look for him.
“You know, we should not have met before the ceremony.” He loosely places his hands on my hips while pulling me towards him, even more, and crosses his hands behind my waist, “Now, I am debating whether to let you walk out of this room or not. Because I don’t want any male to fantasize about my mate, because she is so gorgeous.”
“Because I am sure, one look at your beautiful face then no one can ever forget it.” He smiles and lightly bumps his forehead with mine.
“The only person whom I never want to forget me is you, Donovon.” I caress his face while gazing into his eyes, “I don’t care if everyone forgets me, even if I forget my own self then also it will not matter to me. However, if you will ever forget me then I will be lost.”
It is a dangerous thing when your whole life revolves around one person. But, for me, loving someone means making them your everything. Putting your heart in their hands with complete faith that they will protect your heart.
I have given my everything to him, and if ever the time demands I will give him whatever that is left of me... even if it is my life.
People will think I am crazy, but that’s how I am.
Different emotion swirls in his eyes, but every emotion saying only one thing that he loves me.
He cups my face and captures my lips with his in a silent promise that he will always love me.
“I love you, Ivory.” He whispers against my lips, “My mind might forget this but my heart will always remember you are the only one to whom it belongs. You are the only reason why it is beating.”
“If I will ever be lost and don’t know which way to go, then I will just close my eyes and follow my heart. Because no matter where I am, my heart will always lead me back to my Ivory.”
