Chapter 150
Hearing this, Carol was stunned, but Rudy was even more shocked.
“Divorce? How could you make such a big decision without telling me?” Carol was as anxious as a cat on a hot tin roof.
“Exactly! How could you get divorced? You’re giving up being the wife of a CEO. How does that benefit the family? It’s not good for you either!” Rudy didn’t forget to add that last part.
“Mom, this is my business. Of course, I can decide for myself,” Calla said to Carol, ignoring Rudy.
Carol was trembling with anger and suddenly slapped Calla across the face!
“Mom…” This was the first time her mother hit her. She covered her face as tears welled up in her eyes.
Carol scolded her through tears, “You didn’t tell us when you got married, and now you don’t tell us about your divorce. Do you even consider me as your mother anymore? Marriage and divorce are such big decisions, and you’ve decided everything on your own.”
Seeing this, Rudy quickly pulled Carol back and said, “Scolding her now is useless. Ask if there’s any hope of reconciling with Mercer!”
Calla coldly stared at Rudy, knowing his intentions well. Before Carol could speak, she shattered Rudy’s hopes. “He already has someone else. Even if I begged him, he wouldn’t give me a second glance!”
With that, Calla dragged her suitcase into her room and slammed the door shut.
Calla’s approach had left Rudy without any hope. He left shortly after and didn’t show up for several days. He must have realized there was nothing to gain from her. She felt utter contempt for this so–called father of hers.
That evening, Zoey came home from school and started chatting with Calla.
“Cal, is there any chance you and your ex–husband might get back together?” Zoey asked, resting her chin on her hands.
Calla, who was writing her resume, looked up at her sister. “Did Mom tell you to ask me this?”
Carol had been sighing and asking the same question for days now. Calla had already brushed aside this question several Umes when her mother asked it.
“No, I’m asking this myself,” Zoey quickly denied.
Calla smiled. ‘I’m not one to go back to my ex.”
“So, you won’t go back to Harlan either?” Zogy asked excitedly.
Calla’s fingers paused her typing on the keyboard. “He’s not my ex. I never started anything with him in the first place.”
Zoey grinned and continued to chat with Calla.
Calla knew Zoey had a crush on Harlan–but this was normal.
in college, she developed the same inexplicable feelings for an instructor.
Like any other girl, it was only a flutter of youth that would fade with time. These were just the fleeting pangs of teenage infatuation. As time went by, these feelings would gradually disappear.
As long as one was aware of her limits, it was integral to a girl’s coming of age.
She knew Harlan well, too. She was certain he would never engage in anything. improper with female students.
In the following days, Calla was busy sending out her resume.
She needed to find a job to support herself and her family. Calls for interviews started coming in. After several interviews, however, she still found herself with a job. Either the company wanted more from her, or she wasn’t satisfied with their
offer and work environment.
After a few days, Calla grew frustrated. Finding a suitable job was proving to be difficult.
She couldn’t help but reminisce about her days working at Atlas Enterprises. The work environment, salary, benefits, and career prospects were impeccable.
A single night of poor decision–making had cost her both her marriage and her
career.
