Chapter 146
The ride back was silent, and the atmosphere in the car felt very oppressive.
Finally, they arrived home. Calla entered the foyer, changed her shoes, and headed straight to the bedroom.
She had already packed her clothes and essentials the night before. With this, she could avoid rushing today.
Calla thought she could take her suitcase and leave right away. But she hadn’t expected anyone to check if she was taking something that didn’t belong to her.
Looking around the room she had lived in for so long, Calla felt sad. Then, she pulled her suitcase out of the bedroom.
Calla entered the living room with her suitcase in tow. Seeing the suitcase in her hand, Jasmine called out with a look of reluctance, “Mrs, Garland, are you leaving?”
The thought of parting ways with Jasmine weighed heavily on Calla’s heart. After all, Jasmine had taken great care of her, otherwise she would not have recovered so quickly.
“Jasmine, don’t call me Mrs. Garland anymore. I’m not his wife now. Call me Calla from now on,” Calla said, patting Jasmine’s hand.
Sitting on the couch, Mercer heard this, and his face grew darker. Calla didn’t bother to look at him. She placed the suitcase in front of him. Then, she put the credit card and a blue velvet box with the sparkling diamond necklace on the coffee table.
“This is the credit card you gave me. This is the most expensive piece of jewelry I bought with it. And this…” She noticed the engagement ring on her finger, took it off, and placed it on top of the card.

A frigid gaze swept across the coffee table, and Mercer’s hands clasped together. “Do we need to draw such a clear line between us?”
“Since we’ve broken up, let’s make a clean break. We should be sure to remove any lingering feelings.” Calla’s lips trembled as she spoke.
Their eyes met, locked in a silent battle. There were too many emotions and unspoken feelings hidden in their gazes.
At that moment, the doorbell rang unexpectedly.
Jasmine, not daring to speak, quickly went to open the door.
Amid Calla and Mercer’s tense standoff, the sound of high heels echoed from the entrance.
Calla turned to see Sophie walking in, wearing a bright red coat. Calla frowned, thinking to herself, “She’s so eager. Looks like she couldn’t wait a minute longer.”
“Oh, did I come at a bad time?” Sophie glanced at the suitcase next to Calla and laughed dryly.
Knowing Sophie’s intentions, Calla responded coldly, “No, you came at the perfect time. I’m making room for you. You finally got what you wanted.”
“You-” Sophie was about to retort when Mercer’s authoritative voice interrupted her.
“What are you doing here?”
Hearing the question, Sophie quickly smiled. “Mrs. Garland Senior sent me. She said you just got divorced and might be feeling down. So, she asked me to check on you.”
Calla couldn’t help but scoff to herself. It seemed the whole family had planned this together. Sophie already had Rose’s approval. Now, she
was only waiting for Calla to step aside.
She realized how foolish she had been. Despite everything, she still harbored a glimmer of hope.
“How did Mom know I got divorced today?” Mercer asked, frowning.
“That… I don’t know,” Sophie replied, lowering her head.
Hearing this, Calla looked up at Mercer, wondering, “Is he putting on an act for me? Or did he not tell Rose about our divorce today?”
