Chapter Chapter Twelve
Mar
I told Harper, I had to. She was as shocked as JP and I were. Then she swore enough to make me blush. She promised to make some calls and check on some things but she would be discreet.
I was at the warehouse now working as Harvey, who was fully recovered, and very thankful, was working. He was loading a large four wheel cart with the order for the two bars and then he was going to accompany the delivery to make sure everything was ok.
Normally I would do that, but everyone was more concerned about me staying at the warehouse. Once everyone was gone JP and I sat together discussing things. JP had one of the more advanced spell books he had possession of and he found a lot of protection wards.
We decided that we would try them together and see how we performed as a team. We were four charms in before there was a giant banging on the door. We looked at each other skeptically and JP walked to the door to check on who it was.
“No fucking way,” he said and I was scared to death as he opened the door. JP didn’t swear like I did and that in itself made me real nervous.
I didn’t believe what walked in. It was a man, but it was a man with wings of gold. Trust me when I say wings of gold, I mean wings of gold. He was handsome and fit and if I didn’t already have eyes for JP I would have went bonkers over him. Instead of bonkers I was just plain right scared.
He looked at both of us. He shook his head and closed the door. “We need to talk,” he said heading for the large conference room we had.
We just followed him. What else could we do? He was magic personified and we were at a loss as to what to say or do. JP closed the door as we were all in and we all took seats. He looked uncomfortable, the winged man, not JP.
“Ok which one of you is the focus?” He said in a no-nonsense kind of way.
I just raised my hand. I felt his senses envelope me and it would have made me scream but he wasn’t doing anything except explore my chi At least that was what it felt like. Heck I didn’t know I was still getting use to all this stuff.
He shook his head. “This is going to be interesting. I’m sure you both figured it out by now that I am the guardian.”
We both just nodded. He looked like an angel is what he looked like.
“I am going to pass my own kind of spell. Neither of you will be hurt, but it is a very complex spell. No one, not any of your parents, will be able to break this spell. Maryse, you will have to stay here in Fae-Ville for the foreseeable future. The spell will be to not allow you to be taken or for you to leave till we can figure everything out. As you can imagine I have many towns such as this across the world, but I was called back here when I felt the joining of your twos magic. Jonathon, inform the sheriff what I have done and put them on alert.”
Then he stood up like everything was done and over.
“Um the spell?” I asked scared.
“It’s already done. I have my own kind of magic. It does not however keep you alive, just keeps you from being taken. I will rely on my town here to keep you safe till I can further my wishes on the world. I need to go. I will return when I can.”
We followed him down to the door and he looked at us. He just nodded and left. We watched as he flew away into the sky on the golden wings of an angel.
“Well shit, that was awesome and scary all at the same time.” I said.
“I agree,” he said smiling. He pulled his phone out and called the Sheriff. “Hey Sheriff, the Guardian was just here. I am supposed to tell you that and tell you that we have to keep Maryse safe for the foreseeable future.”
“Yup, I’ve got her and I’m not letting go.” He said hanging up. He was still smiling.
“Why are you smiling?” I asked.
“You have to stay. At least for now you have to stay. I have time to convince you that staying here is the best for the both of us.” He said beaming.
I wanted to punch him but I was smiling to. I had to stay. The guardian doesn’t give orders without them being obeyed, and no one, not even our parents would cross the guardian. “So Mr. Worth, how are you going to convince me?”
I knew it sounded slutty of me but I was feeling good being able to feel magic for the first time and being able to do something with it to boot. I felt like I was on top of the world.
“Oh Miss Oliver,” he said walking toward me slowly. “I have so many ideas to convince you,” he said wrapping his arms around my hips.
Yes I wanted this. I could feel the magic flowing between us and I had never experienced anything like this before. I was a witch and a gorgeous man wanted me. He was leaning toward me, “oh yes” I murmured.
Just before his lips touched mine the building shook. His wards were going off. His head snapped back.
“No,no, no,” I said mad.
He ran for the window and looked out. We had three cars pulled up out front with men and some women trying to get inside. They were all dressed alike and this was not your run of the mill gang trying to rip off a building.
The wards held and he dialed the phone again. “Sheriff, we are under attack.”
“I don’t know. About twelve mercenaries all dressed alike with guns. I’m keeping Mar inside for now unless my wards fall.”
He hung up. He came toward me but it wasn’t the confident sexy walk from before. It was the I’m pissed walk, and I knew why I was pissed, I wonder if his was the same reason. “The police are on the way. We just have to sit tight.”
“I hate sitting tight,” I said seeing the mood he was in now.
“Me too,” he was already back to me and holding my hand. The magic pulsed through me again and I was smiling even though we were being attacked outside.
“JP, I know we are supposed to sit tight, but I hate the idea of someone getting hurt because of me. Can’t we do anything?”
“The sheriff’s office is all Supernatural’s and the group outside screams human mercenaries. This won’t take long. We just have to wait.” He said looking at me again. The building was shaking and rocking but all I could feel was my heart beating as he stared at me like this.
“Now where were we earlier,” he said coming toward my mouth again.
His phone went off. “Are you fucking kidding me,” I said out loud.
He laughed and pulled his phone out. “It’s the Sheriff.” “Sheriff,” he asked and before he could talk anymore the other end was filled up with words.
He closed the phone and looked at me. “The town is full of Supernatural hate groups. They are everywhere. He can’t get here.”
“Bastards”, this was just the match in a gas can everyone was afraid of. “We have to stop them with as little force as possible or we are the bad guy right?”
“Pretty much,” he said. He went to a closet and pulled out some heavy coats and we both put them on. “When we get outside I would suggest you let me do the casting, just because I have had more practice.”
I nodded. He wasn’t telling me I couldn’t, just that I should let him. I think I was falling in love with this man. Now we just had to make it through the rest of the day.
JP
“I’ll open the door and we walk out. We are still protected from bullets from the protection spell around the warehouse that extends out ten feet from the building. Are you ready?” I asked not even thinking of locking her inside.
“Lead the way big boy,” she said with a smirk.
“Shit, not now Mar, I need to concentrate.” I said holding her hand as I opened the door. We were only three feet out when bullets started pinging off the shield. They were human. They just kept firing.
I was holding Mar’s hand and I pulled power from both of us and screamed a spell word “Fizzle.” It wasn’t the most elaborate but it was strong with her help. Every gun within hearing distance crumbled to dust.
The more experienced grabbed their knives and the least kind of fell back waiting for something else to happen. One came at us and harmlessly bounced back from the shield spell. “If we could crumble the guns could you imagine what we could do to you. Now drop down to the ground and lay on your stomachs and nothing will hurt you, if you don’t, well then, I will consider you an enemy.”
Before I needed to release another spell I saw Harvey, Lincoln, and Al coming down the street with most of their employees. Harv was videotaping everything with his phone as he came. Most of the mercenaries, seeing what was coming, lay down. Five didn’t.
“Affixian,” I called. The five standing became rigid and fell. Most were fine. One man hit face first and looked like he broke his nose. They would stay that way till I released the spell and I had no attention of doing that in the foreseeable future.
We walked out to the street and met the others. “Harv can you and a few others watch this mess? We have to get to town and see if we can help.”
“My guys and I will handle that. You may need his camera for proof before the day is over. He is shooting live to a cam channel.” Al said directing some men to round everyone up.
I nodded and we headed for the Inn. I knew Harper was safe but until Mar saw that she would worry and I didn’t want her too. The inn was having rocks and other items thrown at it. I just shook my head. Grabbing Mar’s hand again I yelled “Affixian” again. Everyone froze and fell. Harper and her employees came out and went right after them.
“Harper,” Mar yelled and she stopped before kicking the first person she came to. Mar pointed to the camera and Harper nodded. They began stacking them like logs in a pile. Then we continued toward Main Vein with the hopes of easily subduing the rest.
We hit the street and nothing would have prepared me for what we saw. There were hundreds of humans destroying buildings and trying to hurt people as fast as they could. Harvey taped and I screamed and we were stopping them cold. They were brutal and we had all we could to rein in the Super’s who had been being beat.
We were halfway down the street when another group came rushing us. I screamed again and I watched as it hit and they all froze and fell. I was so glad I had her to give me the extra power. We would have been lost without her focus. Just then something hit me from behind and I fell to the pavement. My hand went to the back of my head and came away bloody. “Well shit,” I said before just lying still.
Mar
“Oh fuck no” I said seeing JP fall. I still gripped his hand and because he hadn’t lost consciousness I was able to throw spells, and I wasn’t being as nice. I was slinging shit like a mad woman.
“Redunde,” I screamed and threw everything at all the attackers. The force of the spell picked them up and threw them thirty feet or more in the air backwards. Many probably broke something but I didn’t care. I was done playing nice.
“Magnify,” I said running a hand along my throat and mouth. “Enough,” I screamed, and everyone within sight stopped and maybe even further. “Someone hurt my boyfriend. I am not as nice as he is. Stop now and go home or I will make my spells much worse.”
“One girl against hundreds what can you do,” a man said coming from a side road. He pointed a gun at us and without thinking I threw my hand at him and said “Vasectify.”
The gun dropped and both hands reached for his penis. He was howling in pain and everyone watched him. “He just volunteered to show what a really bad vasectomy looks like when performed by a witch. Would anyone else like one?”
Weapons fell and people went screaming away. Supernaturals went around cleaning up the dangerous debris and I leaned down to JP.
“You didn’t just cut that mans wanker off did you?” He asked.
I laughed. “I think I did. My dad will not be happy with my performing emergency surgery like that.”
“No I bet he will not,” JP said trying to stand.
“Lay down dumb ass and let me look at it.” I said back to him.
“I’m sure it’s just a bump,” he said giving up and laying back down on the pavement.
“Sure, now lay down.” I said letting his magic flow through me as I searched his wound. It was a scrape and I worked some magic to stop the bleeding. He would heal quickly and when I was done I helped him stand.
Harvey and Lincoln were still with us. “We might as well see who is hurt and help fix them. This town only has one doctor and she will be stressed. So let’s get to it.”
“Just supernatural’s right,” Lincoln asked.
“Nope everyone, if this doesn’t stop here then it never will. I will see what I can do with whoever wants treatment. I’m not a doctor and only trained in first aid but we can check them and let the doctor know who is in the most serious shape.”
“Battlefield triage coming up,” Lincoln said running about with his men that were still with us.
JP was coming to his senses and we had a lot of work to so. Just then my phone started ringing. I looked at the number and saw it was my father. “Hey dad, I’m kind of busy, can it wait?”
“Mar, are you working magic?” He asked me.
How the hell did he know? I looked around and saw Harvey was still taping. “Oh shit,” I said.
“What do you mean oh shit? Mar what is going on? You’re a level one, you can’t do magic. What is going on?” He asked.
“Dad, I can’t talk right now. We have a mess here. I have to do what I can to help.” I explained.
“Mar what is going on?”
“The Guardian knows and has talked to us. I can’t say more than that right now.” I said trying to get him off the phone.
“Mar I’m coming out.”
“Dad,” I said trying to get him to understand.
“Mar I am coming. End of story. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He said and then hung up.
“Shit, shit, shit,” I said out loud.
“What is wrong?” JP asked.
“My dad is coming.” I said.
“Oh,” he said turning white. “Not how I wanted to meet the family.”
“You think,” I said scared witless.
Just then his phone started going off. He looked at it. “It’s my mom. How do they even know?”
I pointed at Harvey who was taking in all of the aftermath. JP just shook his head. “I have to answer it or she will be out here too.”
“Good luck with that.” I said helping a shifter to a small table that we had gotten set up. “When you are done we will have some medicine to perform.”
“Sure, be right back.” He said and I knew it would be more than a ‘be right back’ kind of talk.
