Chapter 3
“Please believe me,” Maya sobbed. “I saw her push me with my own eyes!”
She wanted him to believe her for once. However, Cedric scoffed at her earnest expression and pushed her hands away.
‘He doesn’t believe me!’
She tried to explain everything to him, but he was not buying it. It was hard to believe that Rita, the philanthropist, could be the
villain. Likewise, the gentle and charming Zera was an insincere woman.
No one would believe that. People would ultimately see Maia as the villain. She felt her whole body ache, and her legs barely
supported her.
“Maia, I never want to see you again!” Cedric gave her a nasty look and left the house.
Maia watched him leave, then collapsed heavily onto the floor. The pain in her lower abdomen was excruciating.
With their pretense dropped, Rita and Zera approached Maia. They burst into laughter as they looked down at her.
“Maia, are you that dumb? Cedric is my son. He’ll always believe me,” Rita said as she laughed. “Do you think anyone will still
treat you like a princess? Your mother is dead, and your useless uncle has taken over her business.”
Rita continued mocking her. “Your father even brought his mistress and their daughter into your home. Now that you’re divorced,
no one cares about you!”
Maia felt intense pain as she lay on the cold floor.
“Poor thing,” Zera said sweetly as she nudged Maia with the tip of her shoe. “Look at you now, just like a rat from the sewer,
aren’t you?”
Maia struggled to get up as she winced in pain.
“Stay on the floor where you belong.” Zera kicked her lower abdomen, causing Maia to gasp and collapse to the floor again.
Zera pretended to be concerned, saying, “Oh, I’m so sorry, Maia. I forgot you just had a miscarriage. It must be hurting a lot,
huh?”
Maia glared up at Zera and Rita, silently vowing never to forget what they had done.
Suddenly, a commotion erupted from outside. “Let me in! What have you done to my niece?”
Tess, Maia’s aunt, ran into the villa and screamed, “Maia!”
“What have you done to her?” she yelled at Rita and Zera. “Why do you keep harassing her? Do you think you could do
whatever you want now that my sister is gone?”
