Chapter 28
Nick paced the small room feverishly. He would occasionally pause to look around at the furniture, but he always convinced himself that breaking something out of frustration was impractical and went about pacing again. As soon as I filled him in on the night’s events, he sobered up from his own eventful night with Reggie and went straight into Alpha mode. The rage filled his being, the veins on his neck bulging with rage. His golden eyes flashed with the threat of shifting into his wolf form so he could properly sink his teeth into someone. If I didn’t know any better, I may have felt frightened.
“Nick?” I broke his pacing and he paused to turn to me. “You haven’t said a word.” I pointed out.
“I’m trying, Emma.”
“Trying to do what?” I raised my brows at him in confusion.
“I’m trying to convince my wolf that killing Reginald and Octavia is a bad idea.” My brows furrowed in confusion again.
“Octavia?” I questioned. “Why would you kill Octavia?” Did I explain something wrong from the nights events to make him want Octavia dead with her pedophilic rapist father? Nick took long, strong strides across the room until he was inches from my face. He lifted his hand until his huge fingers wrapped around my face, his hand cradling my chin tightly, but with a gentle touch.
“She put her lips on you.” His chest filled with air as he took a deep breath to calm his anger. “I can still smell her on you.” I told Nick the entire truth of the night. He knew exactly what led up to the moment of Octavia pressing her lips to mine in a complete misunderstanding, but the territorial desire inside a wolf made him shake. I lifted my head as much as I could under his grip, my eyes locking on his.
“Mark me.” I dared him. A grin tugged at the corner of his lips and my body gushed with a heatwave.
“Don’t tempt me, little wolf.” He whispered in a husky voice. With every breath I took the scent of lust filled my nose. At this point, I wasn’t even sure if it was mine or Nick’s. I let my tongue escape my mouth to lick my lips. I didn’t even have time to put my tongue back in my mouth before Nick’s lips were on mine. I didn’t even try to hold back the moan that escaped my lips with his touch. His hands grabbed my ass and my feet were suddenly swept out from under me. My back hit the wall with a thud, Nick’s hands holding me to his hips. I wrapped my arms around his neck to steady myself, my legs doing the same around his waist. His lips left mine long enough to move them to my collarbone. I gasped as his fangs ran across my skin, the smallest amount of blood slipping onto his tongue. I gasped as Nick threw me like a doll onto to the bed. Within seconds he was on top of me, fidgeting with the buttons on my pants until he freed me from the denim trap. His hands found the hem of my shirt as soon as my pants landed on the floor behind us. With such ease of a single movement, I was laying in the bed naked. He found my lips again as his hands traced the outline of my body. I gripped his shirt and paused out kiss only to pull it over his head. I tossed it somewhere in the same area as my pants and began hungerly working on his buttons. He kicked them off once I pushed the fabric down enough for him to remove with ease. It didn’t take him long to position the head of his cock into my opening. My walls opened for him before they tightened around his skin.
“Nick…” I moaned his name softly as he pulled out and gently thrusted back into me. I held his face with both hands and kissed him with as much passion as I could muster. I hungered for his touch. He pulled my head back with my hair and bit down on my shoulder. He sucked the skin in, and it let out a pop when he released it. I could tell it would be bruised tomorrow, but not a bone in my body cared, not even Nick’s. My eyes rolled back into my head and I squeezed my eyes shut. I bit my lip so hard I could taste blood as I tried to conceal my pleasurable moans of orgasm. Nick’s body collapsed on mine and he buried his face in my hair. I could feel the aggression of his wolf subside as he stroked my hair gingerly. I wrapped my arms around his body and kept my eyes sealed shut, letting sleep take over my exhausted body.
When I woke, Nick was leaned up on one elbow, watching me. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and smiled at him.
“How long have you been awake?” I asked.
“Long enough.” He began stroking my hair just like he did while I fell asleep.
“What time is it?” I asked.
“Almost eight.” It was still early enough that Reginald probably wasn’t recovered from his night of drinking.
“What are we going to do about your new friend?” I asked as I sat up. Nick positioned himself better on the pillow and pulled me into his body. I rested my head on his shoulder as the memory of last night filled my head. I slipped out of Octavia’s room after she fell asleep and I was sure Reginald wasn’t going to try to spend the evening with her. Nick left him passed out in one of the game rooms.
“As easy as killing him sounds, we can’t do it.” He said.
“I’m sure you’re right, but that doesn’t make me want to do it any less.” If I were to kill Reginald like Octavia asked of me, the East pack would become mine.
“We need Reginald’s pack in case the South attacks, and to kill another Alpha and take on their pack isn’t as easy as it sounds.” He rubbed the bridge of his nose. “We have no idea how the pack would react. We could have a full-on riot, our packs could go to war within each other and at this point, we can’t afford our own pack attacking each other when Stefan could be planning an attack on us as we speak.”
“I understand everything you’re saying.” I said with a nod. “But we can’t just leave this pack knowing what’s going on.”
“What do you suppose we do?” He asked me.
“Can’t we let them in our pack?” I asked. “We allowed Derek in, can’t we let whoever wants to come to us in as refugees?”
“Reginald would never allow it.” He said with a sigh. “Derek was different, he was banished from his pack, Reginald won’t willingly let his pack go, especially his daughters.”
“Of course not, he’s using them as his own personal sex slaves.” I wanted to vomit as the words left my mouth.
“If I were to allow any of his pack members into our pack, it would be against his will and he would have every right to declare war on our pack no matter the alliance we have.”
“I’ve seen the warriors, the best one they have is Kendrick. He would be fighting on our side, we would win that fight.”
“And then what?” He asked me. “Over half of our pack is potentially injured in a war we don’t need to be in.”
“So, we do nothing?” I sat up again and made eye contact.
“We have to pick our battles, Emma, and this isn’t one of them.”
“You’re saying when we leave here, we turn a blind eye and hope for the best?”
“I’m saying Octavia and Kendrick need to figure out another solution that doesn’t involve the North pack assassinating the East pack’s Alpha.” I rubbed my hands across my face. Deep down, I knew this would be the outcome, but I hoped Nick had better news for me. I couldn’t argue with him when I knew he was right. It just felt so wrong. “We only have one more night here, Emma.” I nodded. I knew there was a reason I dreaded coming here. “I’m going to call Daniel and check base with him.” I nodded again, lost in a daze. “Emma?” I turned back to him to show him I was listening. “I have to meet with Reginald and pretend I don’t know his dirty secret. Don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone, please?” Me? Do something stupid, irrational and against my Alpha’s orders? I would never…
“I’ll be on my best behavior.”
