Wild at Heart

Chapter 13

I wanted to take his hand and flip his body over my shoulder and crush him into the ground. I needed to control my wolf. She was about to bite his throat out before I could stop her. I couldn’t make a huge scene inside my own bar, around all these people. He did this on purpose. He knew I would have to behave myself in front of everyone.

With gritted teeth I reached my hand out and he squeezed it with a shake. Natalie seemed to be oblivious to her surroundings when it came to her new boyfriend and I’ve never seen her like this before; she was lost in this wolf’s aura like he put a spell on her.

“Natalie tells me you own this place.” He said with a grin. I wasn’t going to give away too much information to him by a simple conversation.

“Kind of.”

“Her dad owns it too, but mostly her.” Dammit, Natalie and her big mouth.

“Everything okay over here?” Lucas made his way behind me, sensing the hostility between Chase’s wolf and my own.

“Lucas, this is my boyfriend. Chase, this is Lucas.” Natalie once again, ignored the situation.

“Nice to meet you.” Chase shook Luke’s hand and Luke didn’t hesitate to give him a friendly shake back.

“Likewise.” Lucas said with a nod.

“How long have you and Emma been mated?” I growled at his comment. He knew damn well I was Luna and he knew damn well that Lucas wasn’t the alpha of our pack. Natalie laughed and playfully slapped Chase’s arm.

“Lucas is just a friend.” She said with another laugh. “Emma is mated to Nick.” Lucas stated. “She our Luna.”

“Oh, my apologies, Luna.” Chase smiled at me but I ignored his comment. I was trying to get a better idea on what this wolf was playing.

“What do you want to drink?” Natalie asked Chase.

“You know what I like, surprise me.” He said with a grin. Natalie giggles like a schoolgirl and turned to Lucas.

“Will you pour us?” She asked. He nodded and the pair disappeared to the bar, leaving Chase and I alone. He smiled at me like an idiot then turned to meet Natalie. My hand reached out and gripped his arm tightly.

“What game are you playing?” I asked him. He looked down at my grip on his arm then back to lock eyes with me.

“There is no game, Emma.” He let out a soft chuckle. “Don’t be so paranoid.” I released his arm and he walked away from me, back to his new “girlfriend.” I rolled my eyes and felt my wolf stir inside me. I needed to go run. I wasn’t going to be able to hold her back for the rest of the night, and I was already getting frustrated.

“Are you okay, Emma?” I turned to see Krista staring at me with a concerned look. My wolf was showing through my eyes as I stared at Chase and I was caught with the look of a kill in my eyes.

“Would you do me a favor?” I asked as I lightened up my facial expression towards her.

“Of course.” She said with a nod.

“Let Lucas know I had to run out, and to keep an eye on those two.”

“I’ll let him know. Is there anything else I can do for you?” She asked.

“No, that will be enough. Thank you, Krista.”

“Anytime, Emma.” I gave her a warm smile and got the hell out of there as fast as I could. My body was on fire and I couldn’t strip out of my clothes fast enough. I tossed them in the ally behind the bar and shifted beside the dumpster. With a long stretch I took off running towards the woods. My paws hit the pavement so hard it felt like it was going to crack under my weight. I ran into the woods and dodged the trees in a weaving motion. I knew these woods better than I knew myself. I jumped on top of a large bolder and up onto a pathed hill, running faster and faster until I skidded to a halt just before the river. Nick? I called to him with my wolf link, but there was no answer, he must not be in his wolf form. I don’t know what he was doing, but I assumed that it had something to do with Daniel. His wedding with Alex was coming sooner than I thought and I’m sure Nick will be glad when it’s finally over with. He wasn’t good with helping Daniel plan and it stressed him out to not be able to help his beta. I laid myself on the cool grass and rested my chin on my paws. My wolf was longing for her mate, but my human side was telling her to let him work on what he needed to get done. I’d find him soon enough.

I thought about Chase in the silence of the night surrounding me. I knew something was off about him, but I just couldn’t put my paw on it. Then there was Octavia. Something was going on with her as well, but I couldn’t tell if I could trust her or not. Nick wanted this alliance to work for the sake of the pack, but Reggie wanted it more. His pack was good with herbs and there were rumors of magic, but his pack wasn’t strong. Not like our pack. We train our pups from a young age to be able to defend themselves against any attacks. Our strongest are chosen to be Omegas and ever since I can remember we haven’t had any attacks on our pack besides the explosion that killed my mother and the attack that killed Alpha Philip. Two attacks in the past twenty-plus years was a damn good record. There were some rogues here and there that tried to invade the pack, but the Omegas always protected us. We had it good, but the East Pack didn’t have such a good record. They’re known to be very welcoming and are often times the first pack wolves go to when in need of refuge. Reginald is very open to allowing wolves into his pack without thought, but sometimes it bites him in the ass and one of his own ends up paying the price. There’s a reason Nick has never agreed to an alliance with him before. But now, with the South Pack sending rogues to our borders and the thought of Stefan wanting revenge for his son’s death has put Nick in a tough spot. He was doing the best he could.

Nick! Daniel! The sound of one of our own calling out to the pack link perked me up fast. Someone!

Alan? What’s wrong?

We’re being attacked! We need backup!

I’m on my way! I jumped up and took off running to our borders. I had no idea what I was running into, but there was no way in hell I was letting my pack be attacked without help.
