Geo turned the suitcase towards the boys and opened it for them to see. Noah and Micka's eyes widened at all the sparkly gadgets, weapons, and unrecognizable objects that had weird shapes, inside the black foam of the suitcase.

"Wow, what's this?!" gasped Micka, picking up a smooth, black ball that weighed heavier than it looked. He narrowed his eyes, examining the flawless metal.

"That's a bomb."

Micka's eyes widened and he quickly put it back in the suitcase.

"Right, I knew that," he said, taking a step back so that it wouldn't explode in his face.

"We won't be able to give you dangerous weapons for safety reasons, but we can't have you two go in there empty-handed. We brought only what we thought was indispensable," said Geo. Noah raised his brows, wondering how bombs weren't considered as a dangerous weapon. Carl took out what looked like a bottle of perfume.

"I don't think smelling good is going to help our investigation," noted Micka.

"It's a perfume that gets rid of human scent."

"Are you implying that we smell bad?" gasped Micka, narrowing his eyes. Geo looked like he wanted to knock Micka out, but Carl quickly took the wheel.

"No, it's a perfume that will allow you to sneak around vampires without getting caught. From our previous researches, we found out that they are sensitive to human scent. We're not talking about body odor, but the thin layer of skin and the blood beneath it, something that can't be detected by a human's nose. Their sense of smell is extremely strong, so it'll be hard for you two to secretly walk around without this. Only use it when necessary, there's only a small amount of it."

"Strong sense of smell? Well, we better not fart around them then," snickered Micka, making Noah laugh. Geo and Carl stared at the two boys who were now laughing so hard that they were slipping off their chair, and for a second, the two men regretted many of their decisions.

"Next," interrupted Geo, clearing his voice. He took out a syringe containing a strange black liquid. "This liquid was created in one of our labs. It's only a prototype and we aren't completely sure of how well it works or its side effects, but it's a remedy that should help stop a vampire from going mad."

"Wait, did you just 'mad'?" asked Noah.

"Vampires have a hard time controlling themselves when they see or smell blood on a hungry day. We call this state their 'blood drive'," explained Geo. "When they haven't fed for a while and stumble upon a bleeding person, things can end very badly. They're normally very composed and discrete creatures, and they seem to have a lot of self-control, just not when they're hungry."

"If you stab a vampire with this syringe and inject the liquid, it should make them return to their normal state and stop their blood drive temporarily. It'll give you enough time to run away," said Carl. "But like we've said, we don't know how long this remedy will last, so you'll have to be careful when you use it."

"How do you guys know all this? Have you already met a vampire? Did you guys do experiments on them?"

Geo and Carl didn't answer Noah's question. Instead, Carl reached into the suitcase and took out a silver ring. "And finally, this little thing."

"Are vampires really vulnerable to silver?" asked Noah in surprise. He's read some stereotypes on vampires in the past, saying that vampires were immune to silver, fire, garlic and wooden stakes. He didn't know if they were true or not, but it was written in almost every vampire novel he's read.

"No. Well, we aren't too sure yet, we just thought that it'd look good on you boys. It's a nice little accessory," shrugged Carl.

"Your first mission will be to identify which student in Bran Prep High is a vampire and give us an estimation of how many there are," explained Geo.

"How are we going to do that?" snorted Micka. "We can't just walk up to them and say, 'Hey, you look kind of pale. Are you perhaps a blood-sucking vampire? Oh, but please don't SUCK THE LIVING LIFE OUT OF ME!'"

"Which is why we're giving you this," sighed Geo, taking out an instant camera, the ones used in the '90s. "Vampires don't appear on photos. They're either extremely blurry, or invisible."

He showed them a couple of pictures with blurry people. It looked like someone had drawn something and erased it, leaving a very light trace. "These are some of our previous suspects. We don't know why, but Vampires don't seem to appear on pictures."

"That's so sad," murmured Noah, staring at the camera that Geo held. The three of them turned towards him, confused. Noah realized that he had just murmured his thoughts aloud and let out a sheepish chuckle, feeling like he needed to explain himself. "It's just that I can't imagine living for decades and not even being able to make memories through pictures. It's like... It's like they aren't even allowed to exist."

"They shouldn't," sighed Geo. "These monsters are killing and kidnapping innocent people, not being able to appear on photos is nothing compared to their crimes."

Noah frowned. "So if we find more information on this vampire gang you've been talking about, then what? Are you going to kill them?"

"We're doing things step by step here, kid," said Geo, slyly dodging the question. "We first need you boys to find out who they are and what they're up to. Take pictures and report back to us every twice a week, we'll need evidence and proof a.s.a.p."

"We've been gathering some information upstate and managed to find a suspect. We believe that he's part of the gang of vampires that have been kidnapping and hurting students. He's committed the most crimes amongst them all," said Carl. "He's been caught on some of the security cameras. Well, partially anyway."

Carl took out his phone and showed Noah and Micka a video of a blurry figure carrying an unconscious girl in his arms. They both squinted their eyes, but the face of the man was nothing but a blur whereas the girl he was carrying was perfectly identifiable.

"Wow, you really can't see his face," whispered Micka in shock.

"We have a couple more videos like this," said Carl. "And after doing some research on the culprit's clothes, we think that he's a student at Bran Prep High. We don't have a picture or a clear idea of what he looks like, but we do have his name."

"What's his name?" asked Noah, his eyes still on the vampire's blurry face.

"His name is Aleksei. Aleksei Griffon."

Noah blinked. Aleksei Griffon...

"Do you boys have any questions?" asked Geo, closing the suitcase. Micka raised his hand. "Good, your investigation starts in a few days. We'll send you some files with what little information we've gathered on these monsters. Try to keep a low profile when you're there, and make sure to keep your grades up. We don't want this monster-hunt to ruin your studies either."

For some reason, Noah didn't like it when Geo called them monsters. It almost sounded like an insult. Geo, through his tinted glasses, could tell that Noah looked doubtful.

"Right, and we forgot to tell you boys," said Geo, interlacing his fingers over the table and looking at them with a serious gaze that they couldn't really see. "We won't bother giving any warnings because I feel like you two are going to break most of the rules we give you either way."

Noah and Micka looked at each other with a sheepish smile, knowing that Geo was right.

"But there's one rule I want you to follow at all times. No matter what, you have to promise that you won't break it," said Geo.

"What's that?" asked Noah.

"Don't fall in love with a vamp."

Noah and Micka both stared at him, confused.

"Not unless you're looking for heartbreak. They're deadly monsters, but they're also extremely seductive and attractive creatures. It's how they lure in their victims before sucking the life out of them. Just keep in mind that monsters like them can't love, they don't feel human emotions like we do. They lost the definition of love the day they had died. All they want now, is to kill their boredom and survive," said Geo. "So it's better if both of you don't get involved with them in that kind of way. It's for your own good."

There was something strange about the way Geo spoke. It was more intimidating and serious than Geo's normal voice, sending chills down both Noah and Micka's spine.

"Of course we won't," chuckled Micka nervously, nudging Noah in the rib. "We'd never fall in love with a vampire, right?"

Noah nodded. "Right."
