Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change?

Chapter 1057

Upon discovering the truth, Rebecca White felt a sudden clarity wash over her.

She finally understood the reasons behind Francis's kindness.

Rebecca's dark eyes were calm and cool as she spoke, "Your affection for me stems from guilt, from a sort of transferred love..."

She shook her head gently, "We came together by chance and had James. We are his parents, but that's all we are to each other. Do you understand?" "Rebecca..."

Francis understood what she was implying, but he didn't agree.

"My feelings for you are more than just some transferred affection..."

"Really?"

Rebecca smiled lightly, questioning him, "Let me ask you this: if I weren't James's mother, would you have even looked at me twice?"

Francis was at a loss for words, his silence spoke volumes.

Given his reserved nature, it was true-he probably wouldn't have.

"Hah."

Rebecca let out a short laugh, "See, you know the answer."

She took a soft breath, her voice steady and light.

"Years ago, when I arrived in Sunhaven, I heard all about it... Everyone in town knew that you, Mr. Francis, were smitten with Caroline Bennett." Francis's gaze darkened at her words.

Rebecca continued, "Caroline is the one you truly care for... I'm just in the picture because of James."

"Rebecca..." Francis shook his head in denial. "That's not..."

"But it is."

Rebecca held her ground, "You were about to marry her."

She had even been hired to design their wedding dress.

"If it weren't for James, you wouldn't have broken up, and you wouldn't have felt compelled to take care of me, would you?"

Once again, Francis had no retort.

The events of the past had indeed unfolded that way.

"Our situation..."

Rebecca pressed her lips together, letting out a silent sigh, "It's a mistake... and there's no need to keep making it."

With that, she stood up.

"I've said what I needed to say, so... I'll be going now."

Before Francis could respond, she stopped him, "Don't get up... I don't need you to see me out."

She slung her backpack over her shoulder, giving him a faint smile, "Goodbye."

And with that, she turned and left.

Francis sat there, motionless.

Once again, she had turned him down!

A surge of frustration rose within him, and he abruptly swept

everything off the coffee tables

the floor.

SWO

The crash of objects hitting the ground echoed in the room, leaving a mess behind.

"What happened here?"

A woman's voice came from the doorway.

Caroline wheeled herself in, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

She glanced at the chaos on the floor and chuckled, "Rejected again, huh? Not feeling too great, are you?"

Francis's expression was stormy, and he didn't reply.

Silently, he stood up and started to walk out.

"Francis!"

Caroline called after him.

He stopped in his tracks, standing still.

"Wake up, would you!"

Caroline's smile faded as she wheeled herself towards him, her tone icy, "She's right! You don't really love her! It's just because she's James's mother!"

Francis turned to look at her, his gaze unwavering, his lips tight.

"I'm quite aware of my own feelings!"

"Oh?"

Caroline raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips, "So you're not going to give up on her?"

Francis didn't answer that question.

He was never one to explain himself, so he said nothing more and walked out. "Francis!"

Caroline gripped the wheelchair's

armrests tightly, glaring at his retreating figure, "Stop being so stubborn! You don't love her, and she doesn't love you! There's no future for you two together

His figure grew smaller in the distance.

"Ha, haha..."

Caroline laughed, "So stubborn? Just wait and see! We'll see who wins in the end!"
