Chapter 4-June 7th
Reagan's POV:
Brian the Lawyer is a young handsome man, he gestured us to take the seats and Faith start pulling out her documents from her bag.
"I have looked into your case, it's pretty complicated as you may know, you don't have your birth certificate?" He asked looking at us.
"No, I have nothing to prove that I'm the rightful citizen." Said Faithlynn exasperatedly.
"Have you visited the hospital where you were born? Maybe they have your record?" He asked again.
Faithlynn released a deep sigh and said " No, Sir, I have tried everything I could to get those records, but that hospital has been shifted somewhere else and in that shifting process they had lost some records".
" Okay, so let's see what options you have to acquire the citizenship" he said taking a pen and a paper out, he starts scrambling.
"So, we have three options, first based on duration: how long you have been living in this country. Second, citizenship for refugee immigrants. And third, you marry someone who have the citizenship, by that you can have a green card after some years and after that, the citizenship." He completed telling us the option. I looked at Faithlynn and see that she was looking at me because probably she didn't understand all the options.
"She doesn't have the documents to prove she is residing here, and if she has to be a refugee, she had to proof that she is from some other country, and that we can't do." I said looking at the Lawyer, he nodded in understanding.
"So, we only have only one option and that is marriage." I concluded looking over to Faithlynn who looks like she is about to cry.
"Sorry Miss Faithlynn we can't do anything, if you want to be here and not get deported to some place unknown to human, you should probably get married in a matter of couple months." Brian said, hearing him made Faith broke down, I let her cry for a minute and simultaneously collect all her documents and hold her arm and dragged her out of his office not before thanking him. As we came out of his office Faithlynn throw her arms around my neck, she had to stand on her toes because she is short and cried on my shoulder. God this is so embarrassing the receptionist was giving me sympathetic smile and I smile back and rub Faithlynn's back and try to stop her from crying. But she won't stop crying so I had to pick her up while she clung onto me and carry her out to the parking lot.
"Will you stop crying and think of some solution, what would crying bring you? Nothing so just stop crying and think of a way out". I said putting her off of me, onto the ground. She instantly stopped crying at the volume of my voice and sniffed. Ewwww, her nose is running so I had to give her my handkerchief. She looks cute with her red nose.
"I have to marry someone." She said after cleaning her nose and whipping her tears.
"Let's go." I said ignoring her comment, I don't feel good about her marrying some strange person.
......
We had dinner and we just came back home. We went to my room, she is basically Living here because she has nowhere to go, so yeah, I changed and went back down in the living room sitting on the couch with my laptop.
We didn't talk much since her last comment about being married to some stranger, I just don't want her to suffer.
After some time, she came, sitting beside me, with two soda cans, she handed one to me.
"So.. any suggestions?" She asked hesitantly.
"About?" I asked, my focus on the laptop.
She grabs my face and forcefully made me look at her " about who I should marry?" She asked with more confidence than before.
"Okay, you are ready to marry anyone?" I asked with a straight face in a serious tone, because damn I'm too serious about this, if she is going to marry someone, I had to check their background carefully.
"Yes, I-I have no other choice, and I have to make it quick because I also don't have time. Please help me find someone?" She said with pleading eyes.
We called and checked every person, but no one looks like a husband material for her. Some are financially broke some are creepy and some are just not good looking, according to her.
After hours of trying and finding her husband and failing miserably we retired to bed.
"What about your ex?" I said turning to face her. She was staring at the ceiling, after couple of minutes she faces me and gently slaps me.
Okay it's a no no.
"Then tell me who is going to marry you?" I asked with irritation in my voice. She just stared at me blankly without answering.
I turn to the other side with my back facing her and went to sleep, I can't think about it anymore.
......
"Rea?"
"Reagan, hey." Said Faithlynn shaking me. Waking me in the middle of a night.
"What is it Faith, let me sleep I have to wake up early tomorrow." I said irritated, I don't like it when someone wakes me up in the middle of a night, I want my peaceful sleep people.
"I figured out who I'm going to marry" she said excitedly.
"Who?" I asked sleepily.
"You." She said, while hugging me.
"No, I'm not marrying you. Never" I said with my eyes closed, while pushing her away slightly.
"Yes, you will marry me." She said clinging onto me again.
"No, and its final, and don't disturb me again" I said sleepily, rolling over to the other side.
She moves even more close to me, but I didn't have the strength to tell her to go away and then I fell asleep uncomfortable because of lack of personal space.
