He was the most powerful man in the UK-it wasn’t even close.
Over the course of his career, he’d made billions of dollars, but his business interests remained shrouded in seOPICE,
His wealth, though, was nothing compared to his b*dy.
He had the sort of physique that would make Greek g ods blush.
I was printed on magazine covers from Berlin to San Francisco,
But his se xiness went beyond his looks.
He was a mystery-an enigma.
Nob*dy was quite sure where he lived.
Whether he was married, if he had kids.
What mysteries hid behind those steely, dangerous eyes?
I arrived at the venue for tonight’s gala. It was a stunning stone Edwardian mansion. I thought of all the princes and princesses that walked the very ground I was walking on.
Unlike the hordes of Britain’s most wealthy people, I wouldn’t be attending the event. I was just here to help.
As I made my way to the back entrance, uniform in hand, I could spot the papa ra zzi lining the streets at the front. All of sudden, the bright flashes of their cameras erupted. Someone important

That when I notices the young put by his side. She must have been his daughter Glancing fundity at the crows, she lookest a little afraid. I couldn’t blame her. A kid needed to play, not he at some fancy gala.
My heart sank. He probably had a wife, and a beautiful one at that.
As they made their way inside, the Hashing lights died down.
Brilliant. I thought to myself, just my luck. Tonight, he would be surrounded by his gorgeous wife, and I would be their server.
I was hoping that by taking up a catering shift for the chel I work for that he would notice me, maybe even help me set up a bistro of my own one day.
The security guard ushered me in after consulting his list and I was led to a changing room.
“You can leave your things here.” he explained.
When he left, I started to get changed. A crisp white shirt tucked into simple white slacks. As I was buttoning up my shirt, I noticed someone watching me. It was my boss. The one and only world-renowned chef, Gregory Hobbs.
“Hello, Jasmine.” he smiled, leaning on the doorway, his large b*dy shielding the bright lights
from the other side.
“Reporting for duty,” I laughed.
“That you are.”
“So, am I helping in the kitchen tonight?” I asked.
“No,” he replied. “Not tonight. A girl with a face like yours needs to be out front. You’ll be waiting on the guests tonight.”
My face dropped. I wasn’t a server. I was a chef.
“B-but,” I stuttered, “Mr. Hobbs, I’m not a…”

He looked me up and down, his eyes hungrily lingering on my chest.
“Oh,” he added. “And tie that auburn hair of yours up.”
He walked up to me slowly.
“It is beautiful,” he ran his fingers through a strand of it. “But I don’t want it to end up in the food.”
“Of course,” I tied it up into a slick ponytail.
“Hurry,” he rushed me. “You have to take out the first course. You’ll be assigned to table one. My most important table.”
Nodding, I made my way into the kitchen and started grabbing the dishes.
Before I knew it I was out in the main ballroom. I weaved through the tables, each illuminated by the crystal chandelier above. I tried not to get distracted by the space, it was the most beautiful room I had ever set foot in.
Table one was at the very front of the room. As I got closer, I scanned the table. Right at the top was the gorgeous man I spotted outside. Up close, he oozed danger and mystery, like he had a
secret.
Theodore Jefferson.
My tray wobbled. I reminded myself to focus. The last thing I needed was to drop the plates right on his lap.
The
guests barely looked at me as I placed the dishes in front of each of them. One of the meals, however, was not like the rest. The final dish was a bowl of plain pasta with a dab of butter right
on top.
As I lowered the plate in front of her, I noticed that she was teary-eyed, stifling back muf fled so bs.
The woman next to her just glared at her and did nothing.
“Hey, sweetheart,” I said, kneeling down in front of the girl so that we were at the same level. “Do you want to use this to wipe your tears?”
I offered her my handkerchief. She immediately stopped crying and looked at me quizzically” before accepting it.
“We all need a good cry sometimes.” I winked at her.

Suddenly, Mr Jefferson turned to look at me.
I could not make out what his eyes were saying.

His aloof coldness made me think he was angry. Perhaps they preferred ignoring an upset child in their family. Maybe it was frowned upon to exhibit such behaviors in public when you were rich and famous.
Not that I would know.
Mr. Jefferson’s eyes darkened.
Sh it…
I had to get out of here.
Without saying anything. I stood up and spun on my heels, walking as quickly as possible without raising alarm.
As my hand finally reached the kitchen. I glanced back at Mr. Jefferson’s table one last time. He was no longer sitting but standing. His eyes locked on me as he walked straight in my direction.
