When I Met You

Chapter 4 Collision of True Love

When Edward heard Vanessa's name, he immediately produced his phone and charged it in his car while snatching away Susan's phone to call Vanessa back.

Susan could only wait for Edward to finish his call. She didn't dare to get off the car and she also didn't have the courage to study the changes in Edward's expression. She pretended that nothing was bothering her by turning on the radio and listening to some songs.

When Edward finally returned, he just said to Susan, "I have asked the driver to send you home. I have some matters to attend to."

"My husband, you don't need to specially escort me home, you know. You can just go look for any woman you like, you know that I don't care about that." Susan said very nonchalantly. "Coincidentally, I can go take a stroll and have fun by myself."

As she said that, Susan voluntarily got off his car and waved at him, "Bye, my husband."

With her high-heels clicking underneath, she headed to an exit nearby.

Edward gaped at Susan's shrinking back with his depthless gaze for some time before returning to his car and switching on his phone. He saw that there were more than a dozen missed calls which had the same phone number, and only then did he start the engine of his car and left the underground garage.

Susan didn't hang out anywhere, instead she immediately hailed a taxi to head to the First Hospital. She headed straight to the intensive care unit and through a glass window separating the ward and the visitor's area, she saw an elderly woman who had ashen hair and was seemingly sleeping soundly.

"Don't you want to go in?"

A female voice suddenly broke the silence after Susan had been standing there for some time.

Susan turned around and saw that this voice belonged to her good friend, Tina, who was a paediatrician.

"No thanks. What good can going in do? She has been like that for a long, long time."

Tina produced a bitter smile while handing a sweet to Susan. She comforted Susan, "You must keep in mind that a person who has a ninety-eight percent brain necrosis yet can still continue to live with the remaining two percent of her brain still active and growing can be considered a miracle in the medical industry."

Susan finally revealed a faint smile on her face after Tina tried to console her. She patted Tina's shoulders and thanked her, "Thank you, my dear friend. You always give me a booster every time I'm feeling down."

Tina simply smiled without heeding her words.

After watching Susan's mother together with Susan for some time, she seemed to suddenly remember something as she looked at Susan seriously, "Do you have something to do later at night?" "I don't have anything urgent to attend to. I'll follow you home and give Ruby a visit."

"I'm not talking about the child." Tina seemed to be hesitating about something. She bit her lips and continued, "Ruby is very obedient at home, so you don't have anything to worry about. I'm talking about a Brain and Heart seminar, and I would recommend you to attend it to learn things. Perhaps it will help with your mother's recovery since the participants are all geniuses from America."

"Alright. What time does it start? I don't have anything else to do anyway."

Susan had been very receptive towards anything that could help with her mother's recovery, and furthermore, today... Edward was going to meet Vanessa, and it was a collision of true love. There was a high chance that he wouldn't come home tonight.

"But... Susan." Tina was hesitating again, "The medical expert giving that seminar today is called Jarvis Ford."

Jarvis Ford...

Susan felt her heart sink, and for a long time she didn't respond to Tina. She came back to her senses after some time and said while pretending to be calm, "If the expert giving the seminar is Jarvis, I don't think I'm going to listen. Back then, when we were still research students, he wasn't even half as smart as me. How could he call himself an expert?"

"Tina, I just remember that I have something to attend to tonight, so I'll take my leave now. I won't be seeing Ruby today too." Susan sounded almost desperate to get away from this place at the moment. Her pace was very fast, and she was very nervous too. She was afraid that she would bump into Jarvis if she wasn't fast enough.

However, when she got off the elevator and was about to run outside, she still bumped into someone.

That man had a set of sculpted features on his face. He was wearing a white coat which exuded a kind of gentleness yet some distant feeling. His eyes were especially cold and depthless. Susan stole a glance at him before trying to scurry away with her head lowered.

However, that man suddenly grabbed him and called her name, "Sue."
