What Separates Me and You

Chapter 424 What Are You Afraid Of

Josephine was miffed and tried to squirm out of his grasp. She really needed the toilet! She wondered if Lewis had grown stupid as he didn't seem to understand what she said.

Lewis' kiss burned with passion. He was like a wolf starved for hundreds of years while she was his prey. Josephine slowly grew out of breath, yet she couldn't do anything as he held her firmly.

Just when she was about to pass out from the lack of air, Lewis finally backed down slightly. He started landing kisses on her neck instead.

Josephine's face was a bright red as she gasped for air. Fidgety, she murmured, "Lewis."

Lewis looked up to meet her bashful gaze and moist lips. He hesitated for a split second before asking, "What is it?"

With her face as red as an apple, she replied, "I can't hold it in any longer ..."

Stunned, Lewis was at a loss for words.

To Josephine, nothing was more embarrassing than what just happened.

In a different room, she hid beneath the blanket with her face a brilliant shade of red.

Lewis tried to pull the blanket off her, but she snatched it and covered herself again.

Lewis insisted on removing it. He was afraid she would suffocate herself.

Josephine shrank further back into her shell. After several seconds, her head popped out, and she stared at Lewis. "Don't tell anyone."

Lewis pressed his lips together and fixed his gaze on her.

She reached out from under the blanket and tugged his pajama. "Did you hear me? Don't tell anyone, okay? Or I won't talk to you anymore."

Lewis' gaze fell on her blushing cheeks with eyes swirling with emotions.

He leaned closer to Josephine and held her chin as he studied her pinkish lips. He murmured, "Then, promise me."

"What?"

"That you'll take the herbal concoction every day obediently."

Josephine's eyes widened, and she wilted, returning his gaze with a look of despair.

"If you don't, I'll tell everyone you wet the bed."

Josephine pricked up her ears at that and quickly grabbed his arm. She sounded like she was on the verge of bursting into tears as she warned, "No! You must not!" "Then, can I have your word?"

"I... B-but you're the one who stopped me from going to the toilet!"

There was a glint in his eyes. "So?"

"Meanie!" Josephine was upset. She shoved him. "I'm not sleeping on the same bed as you anymore!"

Lewis grabbed her hand and pressed on, "Do you promise?"

Josephine tried to wrestle her hand from his grasp but failed.

After several moments of internal struggle, she nodded pitifully. She could only give in as she didn't want anyone else to know about the embarrassment she just went through. "Alright, alright. Don't tell anyone. Can you promise?"

A smile formed on Lewis' lips. "Sure."

Josephine extended her little finger. "Pinky promise. Whoever breaks the promise will turn into a toad."

Lewis glanced at her finger. After some thought, he curled his little finger around hers. "You must keep your word."

Josephine swayed their locked fingers slightly. Then, she pried his thumb open and put hers against his. "There you go. No cheating, okay?"

Lewis hummed in response and lay on the bed beside her. He pulled her into his arms. "Alright, now let's go to bed."

Josephine nodded and snuggled up to him. She wrapped her arms around his waist as she drifted off to sleep. She was tremendously sleepy and fell asleep in a matter of seconds. However, that was not the case for Lewis. He couldn't sleep.

Because they slept late, Josephine was still asleep the next day when Avery came. Avery checked her watch. "It's already 10 am. Isn't she going to have her breakfast?"

Mrs. Larson had a peculiar look on her face. She glanced at the second floor and answered, "She probably slept late."

She received instructions to tidy up the bed last night. Although she didn't know what exactly happened, as an adult, she had a hunch. She couldn't help but wonder at Lewis' interest in that aspect.

Avery shot her a suspicious glance. From Mrs. Larson's expression, she somehow guessed what had happened. "That bastard."

Avery sat on the sofa and quietly cursed at Lewis. She couldn't believe he would do that, especially considering Josephine's condition. He was such a pleasure-driven beast.

Lewis came down just as she was cursing him.

"Do you want breakfast, Mr. Alvarez?" Mrs. Larson quickly greeted, trying to warn Avery to stop cursing.

Avery turned to look at him. He was in his usual black attire that accentuated his broad shoulders and slender legs. He looked pretentious in every way.

He was speaking on the phone and dismissed Avery's presence.

Mrs. Larson saw his attire and guessed he was going out, so she brought him his coat in a jiffy. Lewis took it from her and left the mansion without looking back.

He was on the phone with Conrad. Several officers from the investigation bureau and the police were at the company.

Lewis got into the car. Instead of rushing to the office, he lit a cigarette. Conrad relayed the situation.

"I'm attending to them. Should I tell them you're outstation, sir?"

Lewis chuckled. "What are you afraid of?"

"They seemed well-prepared. They also claimed they have evidence, though I saw nothing of that sort ...'

"

"I'll be there soon. Let's see what 'evidence' they have on me." Lewis hung up. The car whirred to a start and glided out of the garage.

Approximately eight people were in the meeting room when Lewis reached. Conrad immediately went forward to greet Lewis as he entered. "Sir, you've arrived." "You may wait outside."

Conrad nodded and cast a worried glance at the group of visitors in the room before leaving.

A middle-aged man walked up to Lewis and flashed his ID. "Good day, Mr. Alvarez. I'm Zach Addley, leader of Team Delta of the federal investigation bureau." Lewis reached out for a handshake. "Good day, Mr. Addle. Please have a seat."

As they sat, Lewis asked, smiling, "What brings you here?"

"I believe your assistant must've talked with you about this over the phone. The lawyer who acted as witness to your late father's will, Mr. Acre, had gone missing yesterday. His family made a report. Through investigation, the police found a letter of accusation in his study." As he spoke, he pulled out a letter and pushed it toward Lewis.

Shooting it a glance, Lewis picked it up and retrieved the letter from the envelope. He read through the content.

Mr. Acre accused Lewis of bribing him to forge and edit Robert's will. He complied under Lewis' threats but couldn't help feeling guilty. Thus, he decided to write this letter. He even signed it.

"Through our investigation, the handwriting on this letter belonged to Mr. Acre. He wrote it the day before his disappearance."

Lewis finished reading the letter and returned it to the envelope. He looked at the officers without batting an eyelid. "Are you saying I'm the one behind his disappearance?"

"To clear any misunderstandings, we have to question you as the evidence points to you, Mr. Alvarez."

Lewis smiled. "Then, have you ever thought about this-why would I leave this letter lying about if it's why I got rid of Mr. Acre?"
