Chapter 408 Bold
Chatters broke out in the room. It was chaotic.
Lewis calmly smoked his cigarette and watched their performance as if observing acrobatic clowns.
The conversation carried on for quite some time. After realizing that Lewis was silent, they gradually quieted down.
Finally, all eyes turned to Lewis.
"Well, what do you say, Lewis? We'll take this to court if you don't divide the inheritance."
Casually flicking the cigarette ash into the ashtray, Lewis pondered briefly before saying, "Since you're so desperate, go ahead and show me the so-called paternity test. I've hired a lawyer, and I'd like him to verify whether your paternity tests are genuine or fake."
Those people had come prepared to divide the inheritance, so naturally, they carried the paternity tests with them. Thinking that Lewis was giving in, the woman who started it all immediately took out her paternity test from her bag. "Take a look for yourself!"
Lewis received the paternity test. It had deep creases but seemed relatively new, indicating that it had been well-preserved.
Others also handed over their paternity tests, except for a few who couldn't provide any, either due to being unprepared or, perhaps, simply trying to fish in troubled waters.
Lewis went through them one by one until Phineas arrived with his lawyer.
"Chairman Alvarez," Phineas greeted Lewis as he approached.
Lewis handed the paternity tests to Phineas, who understood his intentions immediately. He casually glanced at the paternity tests and tore them into pieces before everyone. The sound of tearing paper echoed in the room, shocking everyone present.
"What are you doing?"
Someone became agitated and tried to rush forward but was stopped by a few bodyguards who suddenly appeared.
Lewis looked at them coldly. "Next time, remember to bring photocopies. If it is the original copy, you might lose it." "You've gone too far!"
"Who are you to destroy our things? Believe me. I will sue you!"
"You can't do things like this! We only want a portion of the inheritance, not everything. You're forcing us into a corner!"
Lewis leaned back nonchalantly and spoke slowly, "Good. I was just about to consult my lawyer here. How should we deal with people who impersonate relatives and cause disturbances?" The lawyer responded, "If they try to cause disturbances, they could be imprisoned for five to ten years."
"When did we ever cause any disturbances? We are here to reason with you!"
"That's right. We are entitled to receive the inheritance. We simply want to secure our fair share!"
Lewis uttered, "You said you're entitled. Do you have any evidence to support your claims?"
"You just tore it apart!"
Lewis frowned. "Watch your mouth. If you can't produce evidence, you'll face defamation charges too."
Suddenly, a man rushed forward and pointed at Lewis angrily. "You're shameless!"
This man appeared to be in his twenties, and surprisingly, he bore a resemblance to Lewis.
Lewis smiled faintly. "And who are you?"
Michael Alvarez replied in an unfriendly manner, "It's none of your business who I am! Let me tell you, I only wanted 100 million at first, but now, I want a billion!"
He was indeed Robert's son, but unfortunately, he didn't inherit the features Robert admired.
Upon discovering he was Robert's son, Michael chose to lead a carefree life and didn't bother studying or working.
After all, his father was wealthy. Seeing his son heading down a ruinous path, Robert gave Michael and his mother five million and sent them away.
Over the years, he squandered the five million, and now that Robert was gone, he had no source of money. How could he continue his extravagant lifestyle?
Hence, no matter what, he was determined to get the money this time. At least, it could ensure that he could live comfortably for the rest of his life.
Lewis sneered, "A billion? Let me tell you, you won't get a single penny."
"You ..."
The lawyer intervened, "Everyone, please calm down. I am here to announce something important."
All eyes turned to the lawyer once again.
He took out a document from his briefcase and showed it to everyone. "I am Mr. Robert's lawyer, and this is the will he entrusted me to draft. It bears his handwritten signature. You can see it for yourselves." He opened the document and revealed a thick stack of photocopies before distributing them to the people present.
After reading the will, Michael tore it into two halves and angrily threw it on the ground. "Stop lying! His death was an accident. There's no way he had a will!"
The lawyer calmly stated, "This is indeed Mr. Robert's will. It was drafted and signed ten years ago, as clearly stated on the document."
"Who knows if it's real or fake! Maybe you all conspired and fabricated this fake will to deceive us!"
The lawyer responded, "If you don't believe it, you can verify it at the will notary's office. As a lawyer, I can assure you this will is genuine!"
This statement was like a death sentence to them.
The will had clearly stated that in the event of Robert's accidental death or passing, Lewis would inherit 15% of his savings and cash while the remaining 5%, including all properties and assets, would be divided among Nancy, Daphne, and Lily.
As Daphne was still in prison, and Lily had already passed away, the remaining 5% would all go to Lewis.
They really wouldn't get a single penny.
The news left them feeling utterly deflated, but a few of them refused to accept the reality and continued to protest. "We will investigate this! Don't think I won't dare to look into this!"
With that, Michael left with his mother, and a few others also followed suit. They wanted to investigate the will too.
After reading the will and discovering that she could only inherit 2% of the remaining 5%, Nancy couldn't stay calm anymore. Wasn't she supposed to get half?
Although she could still get around 20 billion, it was too big a gap compared to 100 billion.
Seth and Phineas also learned about the will at the company.
After reading it on his tablet, Seth couldn't help but chuckle.
Kiran casually threw the tablet on the table and sneered, "Lewis hadn't even entered the Alvarez Corp ten years ago, and he had already prepared the will."
Robert desperately wanted an outstanding heir when he was young. He went around selecting exceptional women to bear his children, all for the purpose of grooming an excellent successor.
Money was not an issue for him, so he indulged in activities ordinary people couldn't comprehend and sought pleasure in unconventional ways.
The fact that Robert had prepared a will ten years ago, even before Lewis entered Alvarez Corp, was quite unusual.
Seth said, "It's normal. Robert had always favored Lewis. Although I don't know what happened after that, the will is real. It's common for wealthy people to prepare their wills early on, especially to safeguard against any potential accidents. However ..."
He continued, "This will is from ten years ago, and a lot has happened since then. Robert and Lewis' relationship has deteriorated over time. It's almost certain that Robert would have modified the will." "Hence, this copy of will might not be the real one. You should find out if Robert has updated his will in the last few years. I'm sure you'll find some new revelations."
Kiran frowned.
Lewis was surely bold.
If he could find the actual will, it would be enough to ruin Lewis based on the fact that he had tampered with the original will.
