What Separates Me and You

Chapter 396 Take Me Home

Now, both the men remained silent.

Josephine stared at them intently, waiting for them to speak. Noticing that none of them said a word, she grew somewhat angry.

"Why aren't you talking? I'll have my dad deduct your salary!" she threatened.

Apparently, she had mistaken the two men for bodyguards.

Eventually, Seth stood up and approached her, saying, "Miss Vance, your parents are on a business trip."

"Where did they go?"

"To somewhere far away."

Josephine furrowed her brows again. Why did they go on a business trip without her? They used to take her along!

Sulking, she extended her hand to Seth. "I want to call them."

Seth removed his phone from his pocket and handed it to her.

Josephine held the phone and dialed the familiar number she knew by heart.

She wanted to cut off all contact with them for three days since they abandoned her to go on a business trip.

Two seconds later, an automated voice came from the phone, saying, "The number you've dialed is not in service. Please try again later."

Josephine looked at the phone in bewilderment and felt a sense of panic rising within her. She clutched the phone tightly and glanced at the people in the room.

Seth extended his hand, motioning for her to return the phone.

Josephine hesitated, but in the end, she handed the phone back to him.

She didn't know what to do.

Looking at him pitifully, she said, "I want to go home."

Nodding, Seth replied, "Alright, I'll take you home."

He held Josephine's hand, but someone grasped his shoulder before they could leave the ward.

"Where are you taking her?" came Lewis' voice from behind. Seth paused and turned to look at him.

"Isn't it obvious? Since her memories are back, I'll take her back to Hardington."

"You can go back, but she can't."

Seth smiled. "Why do we have to listen to you? Have you asked for her opinion?"

"Besides, Sierra is still unconscious. You should think about how to handle her first before attending to Josephine."

Lewis kept his grip on Seth's shoulder and showed no intention of letting him go. "I will deal with her, but Josephine has to stay." "And if I refuse?"

Immediately after Lewis uttered those words, about seven or eight bodyguards rushed into the ward and blocked the doorway.

Lewis retracted his hands and put them in his pockets. "Go ahead and try me."

Seth glanced at the bodyguards before him and cursed Lewis for being a mutt in his heart. He thought there was no one more pathetic than Lewis in this world. Lewis was not even worthy of being called a human.

Lewis looked at Josephine and said, "Come here."

Josephine stared at them suspiciously. She thought these two guys were strange.

Instead of approaching Lewis immediately, she asked, "Can you take me home?"

"Of course."

Josephine broke free from Seth's grasp without hesitation and ran to Lewis' side.

Seth looked at her and narrowed his eyes.

"It seems you are fated to end up in his hands. Well, you don't deserve any sympathy. Josephine, I hope I won't see you regretting one day."

Confused, Josephine stared at Seth. She didn't understand what he meant.

Seth then turned to Lewis. "As for you, you better hope she never remembers your repeated lies."

Lewis pulled Josephine into his embrace, held her shoulders, and looked at Seth indifferently. "That's none of your concern."

Seth sneered and turned around before walking away.

The bodyguards didn't stop him this time and let him leave. Following Lewis' instructions, the bodyguards also retreated, including Mrs. Larson. Josephine looked up at Lewis before wriggling out of his grasp and stepping back. "Take me home now."

Lewis stared at her for a while, his expression unreadable.

Patience wearing thin, Josephine tugged at his sleeve again. "Let's go."

Lewis said, "You're sick and should still be hospitalized. Let's wait until you're better."

"I'm not sick!"

"Are you a doctor?"

Josephine shook her head.

"Doctors said you're sick. Do you believe the doctors or yourself?"

Hesitating, Josephine pondered briefly and reluctantly answered, "The doctors."

"Then that settles it." Lewis pulled her back to the bed and said, "You should focus on getting better first, and we'll talk about going home later."

"Alright, but you have to remember to take me home." Perhaps she could go home and see her parents after recovering.

"Okay."

Josephine grinned, revealing her pearly white teeth. She then returned to the bed and covered herself with the blanket.

Lewis didn't stay for long. He left after making sure Josephine could handle herself.

As he arrived at the door, he heard Josephine's voice behind him. "Don't forget to take me home."

Lewis paused momentarily but didn't respond to her. He continued walking and left the room.

After he left, Josephine's throat felt itchy. She coughed violently several times.

However, the coughing became more intense. Josephine covered her mouth with one hand and her stomach with the other and kept coughing for a while.

Once the coughing subsided, she looked at her palm and saw bright red blood on it.

Josephine's heart raced with panic as she saw the blood. She quickly grabbed some tissues to wipe them off.

Meanwhile, tears rolled down her cheeks.

She realized that she was really sick. She was even coughing up blood.

After using a lot of tissues to clean her hand, she threw the bloodstained tissues into the trash bin.

After returning to the bed, she noticed a phone at the bedside.

She held the phone and repeatedly dialed her parents' numbers, trying all the numbers she remembered, but no one answered.

Feeling disheartened, Josephine put the phone down. She leaned against the headboard and gazed out of the window.

It was raining outside, and the heavy rain blurred the view through the glass. Everything outside was a hazy mess, and she could barely see anything.

She longed to go home.

On the other hand, after Lewis exited the ward, he met Seth at the corner.

Seth was accompanied by a doctor.

The doctor was briefing Seth about Bambam's condition.

Bambam was too young and had inhaled too much smoke during the fire. They nearly failed to save him. His condition had since stabilized, but there remained a concern that he might end up mentally impaired.

"Mentally impaired?"

The doctor sighed. "Yes. Many of the baby's organs are not fully developed yet. With such severe injuries, it's a miracle he survived at all."

Seth didn't seem surprised. He didn't care about that baby's life.

"I see," he replied to the doctor.

The doctor handed him a document to sign, and once Seth signed it, the doctor left.

Seth turned around and met Lewis' gaze. Instantly, the atmosphere between them became somewhat tense.

The two guys headed to the nursery, where Bambam was lying on the bed. Like Sierra, he was connected to a breathing machine and various monitoring devices.

Seth said, "Lewis, you're committing a sin."

"It has nothing to do with me."

"You are responsible for this. If you didn't provoke Layla, she wouldn't have done such a crazy thing."

"Have you ever thought that if you had returned even a second later, you would have seen countless corpses, including Josephine and your mother's?"

Expressionless, Lewis stared at the baby on the bed and fell deep in thought.

He tilted his head slightly and looked at Seth with a hint of mockery in his eyes.

"What are you going to do with this child?"
