What Separates Me and You

Chapter 361 Josephine Does Not Need Lewis Anymore

When Quintin saw the smile on her face, he suddenly felt that his fall during his climb had been worth it. He pointed toward the main door and signaled for Josephine to come out. She nodded fervently and ran down the stairs. When she reached the living room and spotted Mrs. Larson feeding the dogs, she immediately stopped. She felt nervous all of a sudden.

Mrs. Larson sensed her too and looked up at her with a warm smile. "Madam, have you eaten?" Josephine blinked and seemed to have thought of something. She shook her head. Mrs. Larson stood up and dusted off her hands. She smiled and asked, "Shall I bring you more food?" Josephine nodded. Mrs. Larson was about to walk into the kitchen when a thought struck her and she retraced her steps. She closed the main door and fished a key out of her apron pocket to lock it.

Josephine's face fell when she saw this. Quintin, who was hiding, had also seen it. He gazed toward the door that was tightly shut and frowned deeply. He snuck out from behind the bushes to approach the glass door. Josephine was able to see him from the inside, but he couldn't look in from the outside. She walked to the glass door and knocked against it, but it was a shame that the quality was too good, so Quintin couldn't hear her.

She ran to open the door, but the knob wouldn't turn no matter what. She could only think of other ways. She ran into the other rooms, but all the windows were shut. Even if some were open, anti-theft grills had been installed, and there was no way she could get out. She gritted her teeth and sat down on the toilet bowl. She gazed up at the window above her, thinking that she wouldn't be able to get out. "That person must be a bad guy since he locked me up in here. Or why would he?" she thought.

While Josephine was angry and lost in thought, Mrs. Larson was calling for her outside. She had no choice but to walk out of the bathroom. Mrs. Larson's smile stayed in place even when she saw Josephine's sullen expression. "Madam, there are still some leftover croissants from breakfast. Come and eat." She beckoned to Josephine and led her into the dining room.

Josephine instinctively turned around to look toward the glass door, but Quintin was gone. She lowered her gaze, thinking that he must have already left. She picked up a croissant and bit into it gloomily. Although she was distracted, she actually finished the whole plate of croissants. Mrs. Larson stood watch beside her, so she had no chance to escape. Besides, Mrs. Larson seemed to have guessed her intentions and refused to even leave the main door open.

Josephine sat on the sofa watching a cartoon on television, but her gaze flitted toward the courtyard from time to time in search of Quintin. At that moment, the doorbell rang and she immediately turned around to look at the door. Mrs. Larson went to open it, and suddenly, a hand grabbed her by the shoulder and pressed her against the door. "Josephine! Quick, come out!"

Quintin had learned this trick from Phineas, and as expected, Mrs. Larson could not fight back at all. When Josephine heard his voice, she immediately flung down the television remote and dashed toward the door. Mrs. Larson's expression changed drastically as she yelled at Quintin. "What are you doing?! Mr. Alvarez will be furious if you take the madam away. Do you have a death wish?"

Quintin gave her a look and said rudely, "Shouldn't I be the one who's furious? He promised five days, but he went back on his word. I still plan to demand an explanation from him for that. You guys are unbelievable. You even locked Josephine up. Haven't you guys ever considered her feelings?"

"You..." Mrs. Larson still had more to say, but Josephine had already run out gleefully. She looked nothing like the Josephine who had been scared out of her wits when she saw Quintin last time. She trusted him so much that she ran out without a second thought the moment he called for her. It was exactly what she had done when Lewis called for her last time.

Dr. Halliday was right. She no longer needed Lewis. When her memory was gone, any random person could replace him, whereas he had lost the key to her heart forever just because he had been one step too late. As long as something happened at the right time, there was nothing that couldn't be replaced.

"Madam, you can't go out. Mr. Alvarez will kill me if you do!" Josephine stopped in her tracks and looked back at Mrs. Larson with slight hesitation.

However, Quintin pushed Mrs. Larson into the house and shut the door. He ran to Josephine, held her hand, and ran out with her. "Quick, follow me!"

Josephine kept looking back while running with him and saw that Mrs. Larson had already rushed outside. However, Quintin opened the car door and pushed Josephine into the passenger seat. Then, he got into the driver's seat and stepped on the gas. Mrs. Larson was left standing there in a puff of exhaust fumes. She chased after them for a long time, but she couldn't catch up. Left with no choice, she fished out her phone anxiously and called Lewis.

Lewis was still on the way to his office, and he frowned deeply when he got her call. "How could you let her get away?"

Mrs. Larson said tearfully, "I ... I locked the door, but I never expected Mr. Fowler to show up. He restrained me the moment I opened the door!"

Lewis rubbed his temples in annoyance and said after a moment of silence, "Forget it. Let her go."

"What? Are you just going to let her be?"

"Then how about you bring her back?"

Mrs. Larson was stunned for a moment. Where would she find Josephine? She didn't even know where Quintin had taken her. "Okay, I understand. So will Mr. Fowler bring her back?"

"You're asking me? Why don't you ask him?!" Lewis' tone was so icy and angry that Mrs. Larson was scared speechless. With that, Lewis hung up. Conrad, who was driving, felt so nervous after glancing in the rearview mirror that he started driving more gingerly. Lewis' expression was so stormy that he looked like he could kill a hundred people. A thought struck Lewis, and he fished out his phone. He clicked on an app, and Josephine's face appeared on the screen instantly.

Meanwhile, Josephine was grinning at Quintin from the passenger seat. Quintin cast a quick look at her and asked, "What are you grinning about?" She continued smiling without answering him. Quintin started smiling too and thought what a silly girl she was. Her smile reached her ears, and she looked as if she had found her safe haven. She was as happy with Quintin as she had been afraid of Lewis the previous night. It was at that moment it dawned on her that she no longer needed Lewis.

On the other hand, Lewis looked at her photo darkly for a long time before tossing his phone onto the car seat. Although it wasn't a powerful throw, Conrad's heart nearly stopped.

Quintin parked the car by the curb and turned around to look at Josephine. "Have you eaten?" he asked.

She nodded. She had eaten a lot earlier and was still full. Quintin's gaze wandered across her face, then rested on the bunny pattern on her chest. His smile froze on his lips. "Why ... Why are you still in pajamas?"

Josephine looked down at her clothes and blinked. Were they ugly? Quintin looked at her for a while and said, "Whatever. Pajamas are fine." Her pajamas were very thick and comfy, so they didn't affect much even if she wore them out. "Then would you like to go have some fun?" asked Quintin. Josephine contemplated it for a moment and nodded.

Quintin wanted to think of a place to go on the spot, but nothing came to mind, so he searched for suggestions on his phone. "Got it. Let's go!" he said. He switched on a navigation app and placed his phone in the holder before driving off.

"I know a fun resort. I'll bring you there for a two-day vacation." Quintin's voice echoed from the speakers clearly.

Conrad's hand trembled slightly as he was driving. "Damn, that guy's so daring. How dare he bring Josephine to a resort ... for a two-day stay?" he thought. He stole a glance at Lewis through the rearview mirror and asked warily, "Should we send some guys to bring the madam back?"
