What Separates Me and You

Chapter 338 Louie, Don't Abandon Me

Josephine was crying uncontrollably. She couldn't argue back at all.

Seth's voice echoed in her mind. He said she deserved to die, but he was right. She had forgotten her own parents. Of course, she deserved to die.

Looking at her sitting on the ground in a sorrowful state, Seth sneered. The mocking smile on his lips grew more evident.

Lewis had appeared out of nowhere. He bent down to lift Josephine from the ground. Glancing at Seth, he frowned slightly, seemingly displeased with Seth for making Josephine cry. "Are you out of your mind?" Lewis asked, his voice laced with a hint of anger.

Seth shrugged indifferently. "I didn't say anything."

He added, "Anyway, she'll forget soon enough. It doesn't matter."

With that, he turned and left the cemetery. The sky grew dim, and his figure faded in and out within the cemetery until he disappeared from sight.

Still crying non-stop, Josephine clung to Lewis. In one moment, she had been happily exploring the flower garden, and in the next, she became a true orphan, having lost everything. Now, all she had was Lewis. If Lewis abandoned her one day, she really would have nothing left. After all, up until now, every fragment of her memories revolved around him.

He was her whole world.

Lewis gently stroked her back and whispered, "Stop crying. I'm still here, right?"

Josephine looked up, her tears blurring her vision. She stared at Lewis intently.

After a moment, she signed, "Louie, please don't abandon me."

Lewis lowered his gaze and looked at her outstretched finger. His eyes flickered momentarily.

Then, he cupped Josephine's face and softly said, "I won't. As long as you obey me, I won't abandon you."

Josephine nodded vigorously, her fingers moving anxiously. "I will. I will listen to you obediently. I'll do everything you say."

She signed rapidly, tears streaming down her face. Her fingers moved faster than usual as if desperately trying to assure Lewis that she would obey him.

She was afraid he wouldn't believe her if she was too slow.

Lewis caressed her cheek with his large hand and pulled her into his arms.

Josephine pressed her cheek against his chest, listening to his strong and steady heartbeat. Her restless heart gradually calmed down as she smelled the faint scent of gardenia on his clothes. She cried for a long time before slowly regaining her composure.

Lewis held her hand and walked out of the cemetery. Like the villa, the cemetery was overgrown with weeds, with only a few rows of tombstones hidden among the grass. As the wind blew, the sound of rustling grass filled the air.

As the two of them left, the cemetery returned to silence. The tombstones in the grass stood quietly in the twilight, appearing somewhat out of place amidst the lush greenery.

Once they got into the car, Lewis handed Josephine a bottle of water.

She took a few sips of the mineral water before Lewis started the car and left the place.

They went back to the hospital, but not the one where Lewis got hospitalized. Instead, they went to the hospital where Josephine had been treated before.

The senior doctor was still celebrating the New Year at home when Gerald dragged him to the hospital, and he seemed quite unhappy about it.

The first thing he did was to have Josephine take an X-ray.

Then he discussed Josephine's condition with Lewis.

The doctor looked somewhat surprised. "Are you saying that she only has memories from before ten?"

Lewis nodded slightly. "Yes."

"For how long?"

Lewis pondered for a moment. "A little over half a month. Her daily memory is currently normal. She doesn't wake up every day forgetting what happened the day before, like before."

The doctor's expression became perplexed. "This is an unusual case. I'll have to do some research."

"I just want to know if her memory will continue to deteriorate or under what circumstances it might deteriorate."

"I can't give you a definite answer, but it seems to have stabilized for now."

The doctor paused briefly and said, "It's still important to observe her closely. It's my first time encountering such a case, so anything is possible."

"What do you mean?" Lewis asked.

The doctor explained, "It means her condition may continue to deteriorate or remain stable. And, of course, it's not impossible for her to regain all her memories at some point. When you go home, pay close attention and see if there are any specific circumstances when her memory deteriorates again."

Lewis turned his head and glanced at Josephine, staring blankly at a potted plant in the corner.

She had no knowledge of her condition and thought the conversation between Lewis and the doctor was just idle chat. She didn't feel there was anything wrong with herself. After a while, Lewis said, "I understand."

Picking the bag on the table, he stood up and walked toward Josephine. He then gently patted her head and said, "Let's go."

Josephine looked up at him and nodded. She got up and hugged his arm.

She was like a koala bear now, wanting to cling to Lewis every second. Lewis remained silent and took her back to the hospital where he stayed.

As they entered the ward, several pairs of eyes turned to look at them.

Conrad was still worried about Lewis' sudden disappearance. He finally breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the two of them return.

"Chairman Alvarez, where did you go? The doctor just scolded me like crazy..."

Feeling wronged, Conrad complained. Lewis was the one who escaped from the hospital, yet the doctor scolded him instead of Lewis. He wondered who he had offended. Besides Conrad, Gerald and Sierra were in the room too.

When Lewis' gaze fell on Sierra's face, she immediately stood up straight while glancing at him nervously and expectantly.

However, Lewis simply cast her a casual glance and averted his gaze.

He indifferently spoke as if he didn't know her, saying, "Don't make a big fuss. All of you get out."

"Alright, I'll call the doctor to come and examine you."

After Conrad finished speaking, he exchanged glances with Gerald, and the two immediately left the ward perceptively. Only Sierra remained standing in place. She looked at Lewis hesitantly, but the man didn't even spare her a glance.

His disregard and indifference pierced her heart like a knife.

Lewis pulled Josephine to sit on the sofa and asked her softly, "Are you hungry?"

Josephine nodded, subconsciously glancing at Sierra. Alarm bells immediately rang in her mind. Josephine knew Sierra wanted to compete with her for Lewis.

Sensing Josephine's gaze, Lewis suddenly turned to look at Sierra. "Why are you still here?"

Sierra was slightly startled. The cold and unfamiliar look in the man's eyes made her eyes well up with tears. For some reason, she felt a heartache.

She held back her tears and choked. "I was worried about you and wanted to ensure you were okay."

Sierra felt unwilling and aggrieved as she thought about how Lewis took Josephine out to celebrate the New Year despite his injuries while showing no concern for her.

She had been worried sick here, but all she received was his heartless dismissal.

"I'm fine. You should leave first."

She bit her lip, feeling a sense of dissatisfaction and grievance. Facing Lewis' coldness, she could only swallow her feelings silently.

Taking a deep breath, she mustered a smile and said, "I understand. I'll leave first. Take care of yourself."

After speaking, she turned and walked out.

Josephine stared straight at Lewis. Although she didn't know the relationship between these two, she could sense that there was definitely something complicated between Lewis and Sierra. "You stay here for a while. I'll go out for a bit," Lewis said.

Josephine grabbed his arm tightly, her eyes clear and focused as she stared at him. Her face was filled with an expression that clearly indicated she didn't want him to leave.
