What Separates Me and You

Chapter 253

Chapter 253 I Want to Visit the Pyramids

"Okay." Lewis ended the call right after leaving that one-worded response.

Dr. Halliday went into a trance for a while as he listened to the beeps from his phone.

Meanwhile, Lewis casually tossed his phone onto the table before picking up a document and continuing to read it. The computer monitor on his left side showed an image of the live security feed coming from the mansion.

At that moment, Sophia knocked on the door before entering the office while hugging a folder to her chest. She stopped in front of Lewis' desk before handing it to him.

"Chairman Alvarez, this is the company's annual report. President Kiran asked me to send you a copy. Please take a look."

Lewis accepted the report before flipping through it quickly. When he flipped to the final page, he noticed Kiran had already signed on it.

That prompted him to throw the report onto his desk, no longer wanting to look through it.

Sophia continued staying in the office even after some time had passed. Lewis raised his head to look at her coldly. "Is there anything else?" "There's half a month left till break time," Sophia commented.

"So?"

"Do you have any plans, Chairman Alvarez?"

Lewis's gaze landed on the woman's face briefly before he finally asked, "Are you asking about my business schedule or private plans?"

Sophia flashed him a smile. "I was just asking."

The man snapped the document in his hands shut before leaning into his chair. He started to make small talk with Sophia in a lazy tone. "It seems you're eager to start your break, Ms. King. Do you have any plans?"

The woman replied, "Not really. I was thinking that I might go back to my hometown."

"Where's your hometown, Miss King?"

"It's in Hardington."

"Hardington?" Lewis had a thoughtful look on his face. He seemed to have recalled something, so he added, "I see. You may leave."

Sophia inclined her head slightly at the chairman before turning around and leaving the office.

Once she was gone, Lewis picked up the telephone receiver belonging to the landline that was connected to various departments. Soon, the call was picked up by the other party.

"What is it, Chairman Alvarez?" Seth's cheerful voice drifted from the other end of the line.

"What are your vacation plans, Mr. Fairchild?"

"I have yet to decide on them. Is there anything I can do for you, Chairman Alvarez?"

Lewis replied, "Since you don't have any plans, you should come with me on a business trip to Hardington. There's a project there that requires my attention."

Suddenly, Seth went deathly quiet for a very long time.

Some time later, he finally said, "Okay."

Lewis chuckled softly before continuing, "By the way, I heard Hardington has a hot air balloon site. Is that true?"

Seth paused for a moment before replying smilingly, "This is a difficult question for me to answer, Chairman Alvarez. I've never been there before. I can check for you if you want."

"There's no need for that. You should start making preparations. I'll have someone send you the details on the project."

"Alright."

The call ended afterward, so Lewis placed the receiver back on the telephone. Then, he shot a glance at the monitor.

Josephine had been unconscious for the first two days, so she didn't leave the bedroom at all during that time. Even though she was awake on the third day, her constitution was too weak. for her to get out of bed. In the end, she never got to leave her room.

Meanwhile, Sierra had been bombarding Lewis with calls since the morning because she had a wrap party to attend. Now that it was almost time for him to get off work, she started calling him again. Hence, Lewis grabbed his phone and answered the call.

"Have you gotten off work yet, Lewis? I'm at your company's parking lot right now."

"Yeah."

Lewis switched off his computer before getting up to leave his office.

Sierra rushed over to hug him the moment she saw him. "I've been waiting for you."

Lewis lowered his head to look at her. "Why should I attend your wrap party?"

The woman replied with a smile, "You're attending it as my plus one, of course! You know, just so I don't-"

The rest of her sentence trailed away after that. When Sierra recalled the time she got drunk,

she felt as though there was a thorn lodged in her side. There was always dull pain coming from her heart whenever she remembered that unwanted memory.

Nowadays, she was so embarrassed whenever she was with Lewis that she couldn't even look him in the eye. Of course, that meant she didn't dare to seduce him anymore.

At the same time, Sierra felt lucky that Lewis didn't intend to be intimate with her. That way, she could take her secret to her grave.

However, she was also reluctant to release him as well.

"Alright, let's go." Lewis took the woman's hand and led her into the car.

As Sierra buckled her seatbelt, she turned her head to ask him, "By the way, it's almost break time for your company, right?"

"Yeah."

"Let's go to Egraria together. I want to visit the pyramids there."

Lewis brought the car to life before slowly navigating it out of the parking lot. "I can't. I'm on a business trip."

"Where are you going?"

"Hardington."

"Why don't you bring me along?"

Lewis didn't say anything in response. He neither agreed nor disagreed with her. His lack of response displeased Sierra slightly, prompting her to grab the man's arm while whining coquettishly, "Come on, you have to bring me along."

"How many years has it been since you last went home?" Lewis suddenly brought up

topic.

this

Surprised, Sierra's gaze became dazed for a moment. She had to rack her brain properly in order to come up with a solid answer. "I think it's been two years."

Then, she mumbled, "I don't want to go home. My parents will definitely pressure me into getting married. They know I have an extremely rich boyfriend, so they keep nagging me daily to bring you home. You, on the other hand, refuse to go to my hometown with me. What else can I do?"

Lewis didn't utter a word again.

Sierra continued, "Why don't I go on your business trip with you? Then, you can come with me to my house. I don't want to hear those villagers gossiping about me again."

She didn't want to go home because the villagers kept gossiping about how inferior her boyfriend was to the other men. They even started speculating about how old and ugly that

boyfriend was and that Sierra was his mistress the whole time.

Why else would she be in a relationship with that boyfriend of hers for so many years without wanting to get married? Something must be fishy about that relationship.

Sierra continued rambling the whole time. Meanwhile, Lewis didn't even bother grunting in

response.

"So? What do you say, Lewis?"

"No."

That simple one-word response was enough to shatter Sierra's hopes and dreams.

Refusing to give up, she asked, "Why?"

Lewis' tone was as icy as ever. "No reason."

Sometimes, Sierra felt like she could easily die from a heart attack just by talking to Lewis. Hence, she took a deep breath to suppress her anger. She decided not to continue the conversation, so she turned her head to look out the window.

The snowfall today was a little heavier than usual. In fact, it seemed heavier than the previous two snowfalls. After all, it did last for one day and one night. Now, Elysium was completely shrouded in white snow Everywhere one looked, one would see only white blankets covering every inch of the surface, which seemed pretty cool in a way.

If one were to look at the white surface for a long time, one might experience dark spots. forming in front of their vision. Josephine drew the curtains before dragging her heavy steps back to her bed. She sighed while leaning against the headboard.

She had been watching the snowfall for a very long time, so her vision was currently covered by dark specks. Even though the snowy scenery was breathtaking, it still paled in comparison to the first two snowfalls she had witnessed in the past.

That was because Lewis wasn't with her during the third snowfall.

Josephine wanted to go out and look for him again, but her body was too weak for her to move around. She was so fragile that she could easily pass out from exhaustion before she could finish walking down the stairs.

Dr. Halliday returned with another bowl of herbal concoction and forced her to guzzle everything down. Josephine could not stomach any more of the concoction, so she turned her head away after taking just a sip.

The doctor attempted to coax her. "Miss Vance, this concoction is meant to warm you up. Your body is extremely cold right now. You'll make a quick recovery if you finish the concoction." Josephine gestured back, "I want to go out."

Mrs. Larson served as her translator. Of course, the doctor shook his head firmly after hearing the translation. "Your body is already this weak, Miss Vance. Why would you want to go out at this time? Besides, it's snowing out there, and the temperature is freezing."

The young woman pursed her lips without gesturing anything. Then, she picked up the bow! and downed the concoction in one go.

Dr. Halliday took the bowl from Josephine's hands before saying in a comforting tone, "If you want to go out, you should wait till you've fully recovered. I'll tag along when that time comes. We can go wherever you want."

Josephine didn't respond to him. She tilted her head to look out the window. The curtains weren't fully drawn together, so she could still see flecks of snow dancing and twirling about through the small gap. Suddenly, a chime came from her phone. Josephine looked for it everywhere. She was able to locate it in the drawer of the nightstand next to her bed.

After unlocking her phone with her fingerprint, she noticed a couple of Whatsapp messages from several senders on her contact list.

Tapping the app open, the first thing Josephine saw was Quintin's private chat. Next, there was Avery's chat, and finally...

Lewis' chat was there.
