Chapter 23 Whoever Fell in Love First Suffered the Most
Isobel didn't want to go to the hospital, so Eduard had to send her home.
That slap seemed to exhaust all of Isobel's strength. She fell asleep after taking a bath.
Eduard looked at the person who was already asleep on the bed. There were a lot of words he wanted to say, but there was no one to listen.
He sighed, and then leaned over to touch her forehead. After confirming that her temperature wasn't abnormal, he closed the door and went to the living room.
Isobel slept deeply but not well.
She had a lot of weird dreams. For a while, she dreamed of her father buying her candy when she was a child, and then she dreamed of her mother, who was a gambling addict, coming to ask for money. After a while, she dreamed of Kit and Martha patting her face and telling her not to be smug.
In the end she dreamed of Hamish. He stood in a big fog and looked at her.
She wanted to catch up and ask him if he ever had feelings for her after all these years. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't reach him.
After opening her eyes, Isobel realized that she was dreaming.
The curtains in the room were not opened. Inside the room, the light was faint, and it was dark.
She looked at the white ceiling for a while, then got up and opened the curtains.
The sun was bright enough at seven o'clock in the morning in the summer.
With the sunshine in, the room suddenly became bright.
Isobel went out to the living room to find out that Eduard didn't leave last night. He didn't wake up yet. Seeing his cramped figure on the sofa, she felt a bit bad. Eduard woke up as soon as she walked over.
The sunlight in the living room was a bit dazzling. Eduard narrowed his eyes and turned to look at her. "Do you feel unwell?"
Isobel shook her head. She poured two cups of warm water and handed him one. "Thank you for last night."
Her voice was a little hoarse, probably because she was scared by Darren last night.
Eduard drank half a cup of water and looked at her for a while. "Are you going to work?"
"Yes, there are a lot of things to be done for transition."
She was very calm, as if nothing happened last night.
Seeing her like this, Eduard stopped mentioning what happened last night. "Okay, wait for me for a while. I will give you a ride to work."
Isobel held the cup and looked up at him. "I don't have men's clothing here."
Having said that, she remembered something and was stunned. "Hamish had left two sets of clothes here before, but I don't think they'll fit you."
"No, I'll go back and change after I send you to work."
Isobel nodded without pretending to refuse. She drank the water in the cup then went upstairs to change and put on a bit of makeup.
When she came down, Eduard had already packed up. Although the clothes were still from last night, after washing his face, he looked a lot more refreshed. Seeing her come down, Eduard smiled. "Let's go and send you poor labourer to work!"
Isobel smiled slightly, and the two of them left.
Eduard's stay at Isobel's house soon became entertainment news. Many people in their circle of friends were also interested.
Isobel was busy all morning. She didn't have time to see the link that Yasmin sent until it was time for lunch.
She didn't click it and put down her phone to eat after taking a glance.
"Who knows whether it's real or fake."
All she got from being with Hamish and seeing all his friends was a question of how much money she wanted.
She now knew that whoever fell in love first suffered the most.
