Weak in Body, Strong in Mind and Spirit

Chapter 10: Trouble at Chase Lake

It only took about an hour and a half to arrive at Chase Lake. Along the way, they chatted about the Keepers of the Forest.

“This is all just amazing, Pam,” said Kimberly.

“I know,” answered Pamela. “I can’t believe how old Aurora is. I mean, Sir William Johnson!”

As they approached the lean-to, Pamela said “We have company.”

There were three others there, sitting on the floor of the lean-to.

“Hi guys. I’m Pamela and this is Kimberly.”

A smile came over their faces. “I’m Steven, and this is Russ and Ryan,” one said gesturing.

“Going for a hike?” asked Kimberly.

“Sort of,” answered Steven. “We’re ‘Squatchin’.”

Pamela and Kimberly looked at each other with raised eyebrows, and then Pamela said “Looking for Bigfoot?”

“Yep,” said Ryan. “Have you seen or heard anything?”

“Gosh no,” said Pamela. “They aren’t real.”

The three laughed.

“Horseshit,” said Steven. “Is that your truck parked back on the road with the Sasquatch stickers on it?”

“That’s Kimberly’s boyfriend’s,” said Pamela. “He believes in that stuff.”

Steven eyed them both coolly. “What a load of crap. I know you from Facebook. Your husband writes books about Sasquatch, and we didn’t travel all across the country for you to lie to us about them. You’re going to show us where they are. We’re going to kill one and get rich.”

“I don’t think so,” said Pamela defiantly.

“Oh, I think you will,” said Ryan, pulling a weapon from behind his back.

“You wouldn’t dare shoot us,” said Kimberly.

“Why not? Who’s gonna know? We’re in the middle of no place,” said Russ. “If we kill one of you, the other will talk. And I recommend that you don’t push Ryan’s buttons. He has a very short fuse.”

“Just have a seat,” said Ryan. He then pulled a flask from a back pocket, took a swig, and passed it to Steven and Russ.

“You’ll show us,” said Steven, “when the sun goes down and you get cold enough, you’ll talk.”

“Madu, we have a problem,” projected Pamela. “Madu!”

“Pamela, he’s asleep,” thought back Kamela.

“Please wake him,” said Pamela. “This is important.”

“OK,” said Kamela.

“Pamela?” asked Madu. “Kamela says you have a problem.”

“We sure do,” returned Pamela. “We’re here at Chase Lake. There are three bad men here that are looking for Forest People so they can kill one of you. They’re holding Kimberly and I here until we show them and they’re threatening us with a gun... a weapon.”

“I’m on my way,” said Madu.

“As am I!” chimed in Puyallup.

“And me.” It was Ouragan.

“Ouragan?” I asked. “How long...”

“Quite some time, but I don’t talk,” he replied. “I just listen. Let’s go.”

Pamela smiled and winked at Kimberly, who smiled back.

“What are you two grinning about?” sneered Ryan.

“I think you’d be smart to let us go,” said Pamela.

“That’s not happening until you lead us to your Sasquatches,” said Ryan threateningly.

Pamela heard the noise of someone quickly coming up the trail.

“Last chance,” said Pamela.

Ryan backhanded Pamela, sending her to the ground. There was a roar. The roar of the mighty Warrior, Ouragan. We three Keepers of the Forest charged them. Ryan discharged his weapon at me, being in the front. I hate getting shot. It stings like heck.

“Never hit a Female!” I screamed at him. “Not now, not ever. And especially not when I’m around!”

I shoved him to the ground and put my foot through his chest as he screamed.

“Oh my God!” screamed Kimberly.

“No!” yelled Pamela.

Puyallup got there next. He grabbed one by the neck and twisted until it cracked.

Ouragan calmly walked up to the last one.

“Pamela, make him stop!” he yelled.

“Shit! You make him stop, Steven,” said Pamela.

Ouragan pushed him into the lake and held him underwater until his underwater screaming stopped. He then threw him by the others.

“Holy shit,” said Kimberly.

“Bury them,” Ouragan said to Puyallup. “Madu, how are you?”

“I have holes, but I think I’ll be alright,” I answered.

“See Aurora when we return,” said Ouragan.

“Boy, don’t make a Sasquatch mad,” said a flabbergasted Pamela.

“It is done, they are buried,” said Puyallup.

“What about their vehicle?” asked Kimberly. “They must have one at the trail head.”

“Just leave it,” said Pamela. “This will just be more David Paulides Missing 411 cases.”

Pamela speaks funny sometimes.
