Marie said cheerily, “No, Lucy didn’t tell me any jokes. She told me a piece of good news, though.”
Casey looked at her curiously. “Oh? What is it?”
She remembered that Lucille had just called off her engagement to Harold. Where had the good news come from?
She frowned and asked, “Didn’t Lucy already call off the engagement with the Quall family?”
Marie scowled at the mention of the Quall family. She snorted and said, “What right do they have to have my precious granddaughter as a daughter–in–law? They re unworthy of her.”
Casey smiled and said, “Yes, of course. They’re beneath her.”
She knew that Marie had never liked Harold. After all, even if he had good looks, he’d been was blind enough to fall for someone like Sabrina.
“Ms. Lucy is so pretty, smart, and kind. A family as materialistic as the Qualls is most definitely not worthy of her. She deserves so much better.”
Marie nodded. “Yes, Lucy deserves someone better. That’s why the Layton chap is the perfect candidate.”
The Layton chap? Casey was surprised to hear this. “Are you talking about the Layton family that I’m thinking of, Madam Marie? The one that’s been in Summeria for a century?”
“Yeah.” Marie nodded.
“You’ve reached out to someone from the main family?” Casey asked tentatively.
Marie was getting on in years, but her eyes were still as bright as ever. A hint of slyness flashed in her eyes as she said stoically, “No.”
Casey didn’t say anything else
on the subject.
At noon, Lucille talked to Spencer about taking Marie to Zaytun Pavilion for dinner. It was time for her to introduce them to each other.
Unfortunately, something cropped up, so she couldn’t pick Marie up at the sanitorium. Left with no choice, she had to ask Spencer to send someone over instead.
It was already 7:00 pm when she arrived at Zaytun Pavilion after finishing her work. She was about to enter the restaurant when a shrill, harsh voice rang out behind her.
“My, my. If it isn’t Ms. Lucille Johnson, the daughter of the Johnson family who hasn’t stopped trying to murder her sister.”
Lucille’s back was to the speaker. She didn’t want to have anything to do with whoever it was, but the speaker moved to stand in her way.
When Lorelei Robinson saw that Lucille didn’t intend to face her, she ran and stood in the latter’s way.
She was shorter than Lucille and had to tilt her head back to meet Lucille’s gaze. She said arrogantly, Have you gone deaf? How dare you pretend not to hear me even though I was talking to you?”

Lucille narrowed her eyes, her gaze cold as she said nonchalantly, “I can speak eight languages, but I haven’t learned the language of beasts.”
Lorelei didn’t get what she meant and thought she was just bragging. She snorted mockingly and snarled, “What a joke. You can speak eight languages? You’ve never even been to university, so drop the act!
“Do you think you can compare to Sabrina? Stop lying and being such a braggart! Don’t you realize how humiliating it is?”
Lucille rolled her eyes at her. It looked like there was an issue with Lorelei’s brain.
Just then, a gentle voice rang out. “I’ll apologize to you on Lorelei’s behalf, Lucille. She didn’t mean to offend you; she was just standing up for me. But it’s so hurtful for you to say that she can’t speak like a regular human.”
Lorelei suddenly understood what Lucille meant earlier. Her hatred and hostility toward Lucille intensified immediately.
Lucille shot the “kind and gentle” Sabrina a look. She took her acting seriously, didn’t she?
Lorelei snapped, “Why are you apologizing, Sabrina? She’s the one at fault, and Harry is completely right not to be interested in her! How can someone as embarrassing and heartless as her be worthy of being the lady of the Quall household?”
Lucille frowned and listened silently. Sabrina tried to talk sense into Lorelei. “Don’t say that, Lorelei. Lucille isn’t like that. She just can’t accept that Harry wants to call off the engagement. That’s why she-‘ Lorelei became even angrier when she saw Sabrina being so kind. She cried, “Why are you always so kind and considerate, Sabrina? Your kindness is wasted on her–has she ever thanked you for it? 1
“Think about how many times she’s tried to take your life! Why are you still protecting her? Are you a fool?”
