Chapter 43. Making A Plan
A M Y ′ S P O V :
After running, I returned back to the Blue Moon Pack. Just seeing Jason at the funeral had shown me how broken he was, how the loss was inflicting an ever growing wound through his heart. Just looking into his eyes and knowing he felt the connection proved how wrong I was - I’m not strong enough to face him yet.
But what if by the time I am, he has already been hurt too deep for repair, too deep to go back. I couldn’t be selfish when this affected both of us.
I knew that no matter what my fears were, I would have to get over my phobia of rejection. My mate deserved to know the truth before it was too late.
As soon as Anthony and my mom arrived home, I quickly approached them. “Mom, Anthony, can I speak to you for a minute?”
They nodded their heads, shooting each other quizzical stares. One moment I’m speechless at the funeral, and the next I want to talk.
“I think it’s time I revealed my identity to Jason.”
Now I just had to wait for the coronation.

“I swear Dad, I’m not making this up!” Ethan and I couldn’t get Amy out of our head. We should be devastated over Kara’s death, not interested in another girl already!
I was currently trying to explain to my father that I had seen a girl who looked like the one in my dreams, and could possibly be my second chance mate.
“Jason, I’m sure it was just your imagination. Your wolf can make up weird assumptions when your mate dies.”
It wasn’t like my dad really knew what he was talking about, though. After all, he still had a mate. My mom was alive and well, unlike Kara.
Just saying her name brought a pang of sadness to my heart. Ethan howled in sorrow. But every time we even thought of Amy, we were suddenly uplifted, like we were on cloud 9. Bipolar much?
If I couldn’t convince my dad, I would convince someone else. Just as I was about to head out to talk to someone who would believe me, Evelyn poked her head in.
“Hey Jason, I just wanted to check and see how you were doing lately?”
Could I tell her about Amy? It was worth a shot. I shrugged. “I guess I’m doing okay. There was a girl at the funeral, though. She had long brown hair, bright green eyes-”
“And came in with Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack? Yep, I saw her.” Evelyn gritted out, her eyes blazing. Something was bothering her, but now was not the time to prod.
“Anyway, can you tell me who she was. I think she is my second chance mate...”
“I don’t think so,” Evelyn said sternly. “Second chance mates rarely happen. Also, she is related to Martha. The only explanation is that she is part witch! I think she cast a spell on you to make you fall in love with her.”
“Like you did to Jason?” I turned around to find Caleb and Ryder standing by the door, their arms crossed across their chests. “Yeah, Evelyn, we dug a little deeper on who told Zander to come here. All the signs led to you.”
I could feel my eyes bulging out of my sockets. Evelyn?! The one I grew up with? She seriously told Zander about my mate and got her killed?
Anger lit up my face as I let out a ferocious growl at the thought of someone being responsible behind my mate’s death. I gritted my teeth before re centering my attention on the pale girl in front of me. “Care to explain?”
She huffed out a breath and fear flashed through her eyes. She wasn’t stupid - she knew that hiding anything would result in a worse punishment than the one that already awaited her. “Alpha Zander is my uncle. He forced me to use a potion on you so you thought I was your mate. When I found out about Kara was to you, I kind of backed off though. Who was I to stand in between someone and their mate? Then I told him about the wanted wolf... and you know the rest.”
Ethan was howling to be released. Evelyn had made it sound as though she was the victim in this situation. How could she?!
Caleb and Ryder dragged her off before I could do anything I’d regret later.
Now I had a coronation to get ready for.
A M Y ′ S P O V :
I couldn’t believe I was finally doing it. I was actually standing up to face my fears head on. I was going to face the rejection if need be. But I was going to do it for Jason, because prolonging this any longer would only hurt both of us.
I needed to show up right after the coronation, about a day or so, so that Jason would be in power of who passed along the borders. I was scared. More than scared, I was completely nervous my plan would crumble and fall and I would end up in a deranged mess of emotions.
The first step was for Anthony to call Jason. I had heard of his coronation, which happened a few days ago. He was the first Alpha in his pack to be crowned without his Luna at his side. It sounded like everything went accordingly, though, and I couldn’t help but wonder how he had taken it. Was he fine with doing it alone? Or did it hurt him deep down?
Rachel helped me clear my thoughts as we listened in on the conversation.
“Hey Jason, this is Anthony from the Blue Moon Pack.” Anthony had the art of always being so calm and collected, something that I sometimes lacked. When Jason replied, I knew Anthony’s tone had relaxed him as well.
“Hey Anthony, what made you call today?”
“Well, I have a wolf that would like to transfer.”
“Why? Why would they like to be a part of the Silver Crescent Pack?”
“They believe that they may have more opportunities and claim they also felt the presence of their mate at the funeral.” The funeral. The very one I ran away from right after Jason realized I was his. The minute he realized he wouldn’t be the only one wandering through this dark and barren world.
“Really? How about they come over in the next few days to sit down with me and my Beta. We will be able to discuss this then. One condition though. They have to come alone with nothing but the clothes on their back.”
“Sounds great,” Anthony hung up, smiling at me. “See, that wasn’t too bad.”
Honestly, I was surprised at how easily Jason had been willing to let us in. I would have thought he would have snapped at any intruder that stepped on our lands. After all, his mate was ‘killed’ by a visiting pack.
J A S O N ′ S P O V :
My dad has officially stepped down, and now I am Alpha. I am the one to choose what is best for my pack, what they need most.
When I got the phone call addressing a potential new member of the pack, I was curious. Why would they want to join the pack that has no Luna. What if it was a girl, and she wanted the Luna position? Or what if it was actually someone who had found their mate?
I decided to give them a chance. What’s the worst that could happen? We outnumbered them by so many, they wouldn’t have a chance to do anything. I smiled at the thought. They were powerless against us, and at our will.
They had a mate, though. Someone to care about them, to protect them, to take care of them. Something I was given a shot at only for them to be stolen away from me. But perhaps Amy was my second chance mate, sent to help me get through and continue on in life.
But I didn’t want another girl, not if they weren’t Kara.
She was the only one for me. She was my everything, and would always be. I needed her so much it hurt, especially when realization flooded over me that I would never see her again here on Earth.
I shook my head. I needed to stop thinking of depressing thoughts, Kara wouldn’t have liked that. She wouldn’t have wanted me to ruin my life by sulking around constantly. That would neither of us any good.
“Caleb, Ryder,” I spoke through our mind link. “I want you to interrogate a new person who wishes to join the pack. I’ll watch it from the camera we have hooked up in there.”
“Jason, are you sure?” Caleb asked. “You can just come in and sit in the back if you want.”
“No, I want to be able to monitor them without them seeing me.”
“Okay, whatever you say Alpha.”
My first job as Alpha - letting in a new pack member.
I couldn’t help but feel something was about to change.
