Wandering Storm

Chapter 8: 2nd Try

Same as last time, Zergish started off with a blinding ray of lightning.

Boom!

The radiating ray of pure electricity was met with another ray shot from the city’s wall. The defensive orbs had transformed from creating a protective lightning barrier to a singular ray that was nearly as powerful as Zergish’s to offset the damage!

Once again, during the time of Zergish’s recharge, thousands of magic circles erupted to hinder the beast’s movement, the arrows and artillery spells were mercilessly shot out from the wall. However, this time was different, instead of aiming for the vital spots like nostrils and eyes, all were focused onto a singular spot right under Zergish’s magnificent horn.

The assassins carrying poisonous pikes were already teleported to Zergish’s back at some point. With new information and strategy, instead of forming teams and trying to puncture different spots on the colossal neck that was even thicker than the girth of the biggest tower of the City of Derenal, all the assassins gathered at one specific point where an vital vein was believed to be lying under the thick fur and skin.

One by one, the assassins quickly plunged the pikes into the spot.

Crack! Crack!

Stabs after stabs, the pike broke and snapped gradually as the assassins kept on impaling onto a single area above the vein. In the total of 120 pikes, when there were only 10 pikes left, the assassins had finally touched the vein!

Puk!

The fleshy noise of piercing could be heard clearly, however, the noise that entailed ruined everything…

Bzzzt!

The assassin that plunged the pike suddenly became charred black, as the very blood of Zergish itself contained the characteristics of lightnings!

All the nearby assassins, thanks for their extremely sharp sense, as soon as the unlucky fellow was electrocuted, they had all fled towards the teleporting magic circle.

“Well, that’s not really surprising, how did I forget about this?” Still maintaining his calming posture, Damian commented on the seemingly small yet disastrous failure like he was looking at lab rats.

Needless to say, this new strategy was completely failed. However, more stuff were coming so the city’s defense force wasn’t entirely panic.

Just like last time, Zergish was “enraged” by the failure of its lightning bolt and again it switched to brute force. It tried to kick the wall, which was protected far heavier than the last loop.

Having switched his strategy, Sir Cain’s Artificial Black Hole was cast sooner, so as to limit Zergish’s leg from retracting higher instead of only absorbing the fully prepared kick!

Swinging its left frontal leg, Zergish’s kick came once again onto the poor stone wall.

Qooom… The Artificial dispersed into nothing under the heavy kick like last time, and countless aegis also did their job tanking the force.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

One by one, the illusory aegis fell. But they actually did their job this time, as the wall was still intact!

Taken aback by the unbroken wall under its leg, Zergish was stunned for a whole second! Although that was only a short period, it was enough for the city to launch counterattack!

“Now!” Lord Brutus shouted on top of his lung, as the familiar Cannon of The End emerged from the highest central tower.

Unlike the previous loop, the melee force consisted of paladins, mercenaries and official knights didn’t need to back down since the wall was still holding against the monster’s flood.

Having fully charged up, the giant magical cannon with pinkish-red glow shot out a brilliant beam of pure destruction. But this time the beam was far smaller, from afar, it looked like a fine red needle that tried to pierce its way into Zergish’s forehead!

A silent yet eerie sound of the magical lazer beam echoed throughout the entire city. The beam was so concentrated and destructive that Zergish’s neck seemed to be slightly bent backwards!

After a full, eternal 5 seconds, the red ray disappeared and the aftermath revealed. All the fur and flesh on the impact area was burned, and the milky white skeletal color of Zergish’s skull could be vaguely seen!

It didn’t stop there, immediately after the ray was gone, Lord Hidain again shot into high in the air and launched Angel’s Dive. And the target was that very same spot where the skull was revealed.

As illusory angelic wings and feathers covered his giant blade, while distant heavenly hymns started descending from somewhere high above, Lord Hidain descend precisely onto the wound.

Bang!

A loud impact force could be heard and even felt from kilometers away, as Lord Hidain, just like in the previous loop, had unleashed everything he had onto the Beast.

Blinding ivory light spread out and Zergish had no choice but to bend its neck slightly again to endure the massive holy attack.

Finally, the ivory light dimmed out and Lord Hidain could only free-fall vertically onto the ground. He had exhausted his strength entirely and allowed gravity to do its work as he was falling down from the height of several kilometers..

“Did it work?” Damian was curious.

As the light completely gone, the result emerged. And that marked the end of this loop. The white skeletal part of the skull, was completely intact… albeit charred slightly, and a thin swirly tapestry of white smoke rose up from the spot. No visible or notable damage was seen.

“Very thick skull…” was all Damian could conclude.

Just like the last loop, Zergish was broken free from its dazed state by heavy attacks. Its eyes gained lucidity as the blackness of the irises eclipsed the electric blue haze.

With the most deafening roar the mighty titan had ever unleashed, it had regained its nonsensical reflex and speed that made no sense for something that colossal.

Without a warning, Zergish rammed directly into the wall. It all happened so fast that none of the defense measures could do anything. The melee force, along with the monsters who had somehow crawled into the area between two wall, were swiftly devastated. Some were crushed by the fractured bits of the wall, some where stomped by the beast’s adamantine hooves.

As soon as the wall fell, the coiled horn had already charged and immediately shot towards the city. Flabbergasted by the beast sudden change, the orbs, the mages and even Dame Elveth couldn’t react in time and was destroyed and perished completely. Madame Elveth Hysta, who was supposed to be the key figure of the defense against Zergish’s lightning attacks as she was the best lightning mage there was, her nickname Lightning Fairy spoke volume of her value.

And yet, even more pathetic than the last time, she was fried on spot without being able to do anything. On contrary of first loop, where she did contribute by offsetting a ray of Zergish.

Surprised by the devastating damage of Zergish caused onto the force, Sir Cain was broken from his focus of chanting and the mana influx hit him!

Having awoken from the daze, Zergish could endlessly launch the lightning ray without recharging, the ray mercilessly took life of humans wherever it aimed at. At the same time, as if it had set the horn to automatically shoot lightning, the beast’s eyes quickly dilated downwards and stared at the falling figure of Lord Hidain. It once again wound up its leg and kicked so quickly and powerfully that Feathered Blade didn’t even have the time to react, the kick connected and shot the leader of paladins towards the Cannon of The End, killing 2 birds with one stone.

“Was his fate to be kicked by a giant horse?” Damian, who was already dead under the torrent of lightning, now only lingered as a transparent ghost to observe the rest of the event.

Just like that, the entirely operation failed yet again.

“Meh, guess they were really fated to fail after all. So I guess I shall only try fun ideas next time, hehe…” Watching the collapsed city and countless charred and squashed bodies of both humans and monsters, Damian mused upon the recurrence of this hideous disaster and disappeared into thin air.
