Vanishing Into The Elements

Chapter 10

After landing on the ground, I started to sprint towards the building. No one was following me at all, but something still haunted me; Amanda’s changed personality. I was still hoping that the Amanda I know is still in there, and not just a cover up. She could be coming for me any minute, and with one swift swipe, I’ll be dead in cold blood and she’ll then realize it was me.

Tripping over my own feet, I landed on the grass and looked up, seeing Amanda. No, she wasn’t going to kill me. Swiping my feet, I caused her to fall over, making her even more mad. She came in a full on sprint towards me, and of course I ran. Nothing else really mattered as of now. Just my survival and not trying to kill Amanda.

Turning my head, I only Danny, who was apparently sprinting towards me. Where was Amanda, and could she be hiding from me. Falling once again to the ground, I put one arm over my face, but nothing happened. When I lowered it, I turned my head slightly to see Danny holding out his hand.

“Where’s Amanda?” I breathed heavily, taking his hand.

“Amanda? Amanda wasn’t even here, so is that why you were running?” Danny spoke, taking in short breaths.

“I could’ve sworn I saw her, and she, er you, nearly killed me.”

“Well, next time, avoid trying to swipe me off my feet. I land on my feet, you know.”

“I suppose.”

“What was making you run that reminded you of Amanda?”

“Well, she’s a Light elemental, and I fear that she’s the reincarnation of your great times 18-grandpa. Also, I had never expected her to be like this. Why is she like this?”

“Might be what you said about a reincarnation of Erik. But I incredibly doubt it. She may slay demons, but you can’t help but shape-shift into one.”

“I suppose that is true.”

Danny and I stopped, waiting for the others to catch up. It wasn’t long until they did., and of course they were talking about how I started running and had fear in my eyes. I started walking away from them, a frown coming across my face. It was always chit-chat with them, and that was fine, but repeating the same stuff over and over didn’t make things better.

I walked up to the door, opened it and left them behind. They could have their chat session while I was going to report about our mission, or quest some would call it. My eyes starting to get heavier with each step I took, and when I reached his office, I knocked on the door. Hearing no response, I knocked again, opening the door afterwards.

He was tied up in a chair with a person standing behind him. I suppose in dark rooms I could conjure some magic, but not enough with my current state of mind and body. I couldn’t tell if it was a he or a she, and if that person was even looking at me. My body urged me to fight, but I just couldn’t do it.

“Well, well, I was starting to wonder if anyone was going to appear, dear friend Heather...” The person spoke, making the gender of a woman more likely than a males.

“Who are you, and why did you capture Jacob.” I asked, my fists clenching up.

“I think we’ve met before.”

“Amanda?”

“Ding-ding!”

“Why would you do such a thing?”

“Because I was supposed to be the chosen one. I have had the abilities of the Darkness element along with Light. Being a demon slayer lowered my chances, but I still did it because I was being given so much praise and MagiCash. Then you had to come along.”

“So what? I might not even be the chosen one anyways.”

“Have you not consulted the Codex? In the prophecy section, it shows your face.”

“I suppose I am going to have to fight you, old friend.”

“Let it be like that, then. I am no friend of yours, failure of a magic spawn. I was promised that I would be the chosen one when I first came here, way before you even came here, by Jacob.”

A blade had appeared in my hand, and it felt right, just like last time. I saw one appear in Amanda’s hand, and I knew one of us were going to leave here alive. She charged and I started to run at her with all my force that was left in me. This was it, the first hit would decide the winner, since we would be injured in first contact.

Our swords clashed, and she forced most of her weight to throw me back. I hit the wall, and the impact hurt more then the force. Shaking my head, I started to run at her. Jumping up in the air, I spun in a circle and swung my sword. When I landed, I saw many scratches from the attack.

“You shouldn’t be alive right now. My force should’ve killed you!” She growled, charging straight towards me.

I brought my sword up and started to charge, leaving us both vulnerable to any attack that one of us might change. I hopped onto the desk and threw my sword. She was still charging, and the blade hit her, leaving a closely dead body on the floor. I watched as she struggled to get up.

“Don’t try to kill people that are innocent, especially if they can change their attacks at any moment.”

“Heh. You think this is over? More will come when I don’t return. The war has only begun.” She gasped as she started to lose air. She threw her sword at me, leaving a huge scratch in my arm.

I kneeled to the ground, grasping my arm. Shouting out in pain, I couldn’t believe I had just killed my only friend. And now, the possibility of war was upon everyone. No matter the race, dimension, or creature, it was going to start once this ‘group’ finds out about their dead comrade.

We both were on the ground, one dead and one wounded. How could it have come to this. Amanda’s face was as pale as a ghost, signifying her death. It wasn’t mistakable, especially when her eyes and face no longer had color.

I got up, and looked towards Jacob, who was still trapped. Holding one arm against the other, I looked for some sort of weapon or tool to let him free. As I looked, I heard movement from behind. Turning my head, I saw Jacob free and a black. pointy void. When he saw me looking at him, he turned away.

“What’s wrong?” I spoke, getting closer.

“Nothing. You are hurt, and I can’t stand looking at people that are injured or hurt with blood coming out. Go, get some help.” He whispered loudly, trying to not look at me.

“Yes sir.” I replied, turning around to leave. Before leaving the room, I turned my head and saw what he was hiding.

One of his eyes were black and his pupil was red. How? Contacts were out of the question, but could it be something else? A secret type, but I doubted that. What could it be? Turning away, I ran down the hallway, trying not show that I was hurt.

“Doctor?” I called out, hearing a shuffling in the back room.

“Go sit on a stone slab. I’ll be right out.” The voice spoke, along with the movement of boxes and other objects in the background.

I went to the stone slab nearest to the back room and sat on it, still bracing my arm. The doctor was soon swiftly out, in which I showed him the wound, along with other things that I felt that needed to be addressed. He pulled out stiches, a needle, and a few bandages. He quickly went to work on the sword wound, which had nearly left me in pain for a long time.

“How did these happen?” He asked, finishing up the last stiching.

“I was in a fight with my old friend named Amanda Day, a Light elemental. She changed, and she saw me as a threat because I was in some sort of prophecy in the Codex.”

“I knew Amanda very well when she first came here. She was the brightest of the brights, that was until figured out the prophecy of a chosen one, then she went mad. She wanted to be the chosen one really bad. Also, this has nothing to do with your story, but what tattoo is this one?”

“I don’t have a tattoo.” I replied bluntly.

“Obviously you do. It’s a half moon and half skull.”

“Oh. I didn’t even know I had one. I want to say it’s my elemental symbol, which is Darkness. I feel like I am supposed to be evil with this being my element.”

“You are the first I’ve ever met that is a Darkness elemental, so I wouldn’t know.”

“Ok. Just hurry it up a tad bit. I have to meet up with some friends.”

“Yes ma’am.”

He started applied the bandages to all the wounds that proved to be open, but left one not bandaged because it wasn’t big enough to be infected too much. Leaving him, I told him I would figure out a way to repay him for all of his services.

Time to find the Codex and read what this prophecy is really about.
