Chapter 9
Kara
“You’re not that good at hiding beautiful”.
My eyes widened when I saw the person who just spoke. It was a Vampire guy, he has blonde curly hair and blue eyes. His slim face had a smirk plastered to it. I’ve seen the face somewhere. Oh, he’s the guy from a while ago. The one who told the general that someone was here.
Oh no! I’ve been caught. Max tried his best to save me. He even risked his life just to protect me and I blew it. I feel so ashamed. I wish I stayed in the wooden box a bit longer.
.
It was a staring contest between me and the curly haired Vampire.
I didn’t move even an inch. I knew that trying to run wouldn’t take me anywhere. He didn’t try to catch me, he just stared at me. That annoying smirk still visible on his face.
“I’m Nathan” he finally said. He stretched his hands towards me, probably expecting a hand shake.
Seriously! He’s a Vampire! In his Vampire form. Obviously after my life. And he’s freaking expecting me to give him a hand shake?.
I just stood there dumbfounded. He then, suddenly dragged my hands and held it in his. This sent shivers down my spine.
“Nice to meet you Miss Covey”. He said smiling at me, still holding my hands. I still stared at him in fright. Wondering how he knows my surname. Oh, well, he’s a Vampire! What was I expecting!?
“what do you want from me?” I asked in tears, barely audible. He didn’t say a word. Instead, he looked at me from head to toe in a flirty manner. 'disgusting!'
“What do you guys want? You’ve killed my mom! She’s the vampire, not me! Kendra and I don’t know anything about this stuff. You’re not going to get anything from us. We didn’t even know that Vampires exist until now!” I said loudly. This time, I wasn’t crying, I was done crying. in fact , my voice held anger in them. I was angry, angry that my mom kept us in the dark for so long. Angry that she left without a warning. Without a good bye. I wish she informed us about what was ahead of us.
His facial expression changed immediately after my little outburst. He didn’t have that flirty look or annoying smirk. Rather he had this serious expression. As though, he was In deep thought.
“Chill, Kara, I’m not here to hurt you. I’m here to help” he said with a genuine look. I gazed at him, trying to understand what he just said. I felt like this was a trap.
“ yeah, nice try. But there’s no need for all this drama. It’s not like I can run or something.” I said to him. Even though the fact that I couldn’t run was true. Something deep inside of me wanted me to. I felt like fighting, for mom. For Kendra, and also, for Max.
“Look, Kara, I’m going to help you. I promise. And, your mom kept her true identity a secret just to protect you. Plus they won’t do anything to Max until they find you. He’s their only lead.” He said.
“ how sure are you they won’t hurt Max….” I started before realizing something.
He just comforted me about things that I didn’t say out loud.
“Did you just_ _ can yo_ u_ … you read my thoughts ?” I stammered in utter disbelief and shock.
He didn’t have to say a word. The smile on his face already showed that he could read minds.
“Now, let’s get going, beautiful!. Those Vampires are still hunting you. We’ll talk on the way” he said as he made his way out of the cottage.
I gave it a thought, and came to the conclusion that I’ll follow him. It doesn’t make any difference By the way. Since I can’t protect myself, it’s better I go with him. If he happens to be sincere I might be able to save Max and find Kendra.
“Are you coming beautiful? Or you’re going to spend the whole day deciding?” Nathan asked raising his voice. That’s when I noticed that he was already on his way, and I had to run real fast to catch up.
.
“Why are you helping me?” I asked. We have been walking in silence, and I couldn’t help but ask. That’s, if he’s actually helping me.
“Ugh, I thought we were over this” he said in his playful tone. I really like how he can be f**king serious one second and playful the next. It’s kind of cute.
“No! We are not!” I said, getting angry again. I’m usually not the hot tempered type. That’s Kendra’s part. But with all that has happened I just don’t seem to be the calm Kara any more. Maybe this whole drama is affecting me more than I imagined it would.
“you only Said you were going to help. I don’t know why, or what you’re going to help with.” I added, this time a bit calmly.
“So, you want to know why and what?” he asked sarcastically.
“Exactly!”. I replied loosing my temper again.
“Chill Kara. I’ll explain.” He said in a playful tone. I just stared at him in expecting him to continue.
“But Kara, are you ready?” he asked, and this time with a hint of worry. I nodded in reply.
“So what do you want to know?” he asked.
I took a deep breath before replying. “Everything!”.
“Okay, I’ll start with your mom’s story. But we’ll have to be walking while we talk, because, we need to find a shelter before night falls. The Vampires would be able to track us down easily once night falls. You Know, our strength comes from the dark night.”
“So your plan is to travel by day and hide by night?” I asked, or rather, stated the obvious.
“Exactly! And that’s why we have to increase our pace. The story, or rather explanation shouldn’t hinder our journey.!”
“So, starting with your first question. The reason I’m helping you is because I made a promise to your mom”.
