Chapter 57
When Nicholas told me that his little giant bat pet helps only when he feels like it, I never thought it will be this bad.
No wonder he still fails to find his enemies (Kara specifically). It's because of this good for nothing creature. He has so many powers and the least he could do for us was help find kara. That's all we ask for. But the pompous brat has to be in the mood to help no one can force it.
And funny enough, he hasn't been in the mood for ages now.
"Come on now Spike, let's go get kara" I was trying my best to sound nice.
“It's not going to work. I summoned him with a little hope, and now it's all gone" Nick said.
“You really are giving up?“ I was slightly disappointed. I mean, when he called and asked Dimitri to bring Spike over, he sounded so confident and now he's acting all hopeless.
“What do you think will make him help us?“ I asked.
“I do not know. He normally helps if he trusts the person” Nick said, once again laying on my bed.
“So, you are trying to say it has to trust you for it to help?" I asked though that's clearly what he just said.
He gave me a nod in reply.
“So, he doesn't trust you?“ I asked, making sure I was picking the right words.
"Not anymore," Nick said blankly.
“So, he used to trust you?"
“how low is your IQ Kendra, do you have to turn every answer I give into a freaking question?" He barked.
“I just want to make sure your Highness!" I barked back.
He closed his eyes and put his hands over his forehead. That means it's time for me to shut up and let him think.
"Hey spiky," I said walking over to its cage.
"Don't call it that," Nick said, his eyes still closed.
"Well, excuse me, sir, it's not my fault that your bat creeps me out. The only way to make it less scary is by making the name sound a bit cute" I justified.
"Whatever Kendra," he said waving a hand.
“By the way, Spike's just scary on the outside. On the inside, he's a really big softy” he added.
"Just like you" Nick's glare was enough to make me shut the fuck up.
I moved really close to spike so I could touch his cage.
I looked at the creature closely.
Its eyes were something that captured my soul. It was so deep and colorful, full of life, and the only thing that didn't seem to scare me in his whole body.
"Beautiful" I whispered as I put my hand on his skin unconsciously.
"You really are innocent," I said, my hands running through its body. He closed his eyes at my touch, acting like a cute adorable puppy.
I turned around to glimpse at Nick who seemed to be fast asleep and then at the Cage's lock. There was no need for a key or anything. I could unlock it with my hands. Spike's eyes glowed when he realized what I was about to do.
.
"Eat up," I said, giggling lowly. We have been playing for quite some time now so I decided to bring spike downstairs for a quick snack. Nick was still upstairs and I don't know how he'll react to this, but the truth is, I don't really care.
Spike is a lot of fun. He acts like a pet dog. And that reminds me of how much I have wanted a dog while growing up. But couldn't get one thanks to mom being allergic to them.
"Then after this, we'll get you a dog," Nick said climbing down the stairs.
"You startled me," I said, giving an awkward smile. Is he not supposed to be mad that I took spike out of his cage?
"You seem to be getting along quite well," Nick smiled. guess he isn't mad after all.
"Yeah, we've been playing," I said, feeling a bit stupid when I mentioned the word, play.
"Can I join?" Nick asked, surprising both Spike and I.
Spike's ears rose in excitement and he ran toward Nick happily.
“I guess there's room for one more player” I shrugged, trying my best to tame my excitement.
.
After a playing hide and seek, and fetch, we all sat in the garden outside panting.
"That was refreshing," Nick said, that warm smile not leaving his face.
“Yeah, it was” I agreed.
"I've never done something like this before?" He said.
"Something like what? You mean playing games?"
"Yes"
"Whattt? How is that possible? What about when you were a kid?" I asked. Cuz Kara and I us d to play a lot as kids. Mom and dad would join us occasionally.
"I'm the prince of our coven Kendra, I never had time for things like that"
"Well I'm glad you got to experience it."
It was so nice having to see this side of Nick. I'm glad he's allowing me to see his smile. I'm honored to meet the happy and normal Nick. Not the cold, guy with no emotions.
"Hey spike, wanna help us find Kara?" I asked with so much hope. Now that we are friends, I'm hoping he would accept.
He ran to where Nick and I were seated and without any warning, teleported.
.
"Where the fuck are we?" I asked staring at the unbelievably beautiful structure.
“The white coven empire!" Nick said equally thrilled.
"I thought it was destroyed," I said. I have read about their dumb war and how all these vampires destroyed everything just for a dumb stone. That same stone which kara betrayed me for.
“Yeah, but there are always remains after a long war” Nick replied.
"Yeah you have a point," I said, noting his point.
“You really think my sister is here?" I asked staring at the tall, magnificent building in front of me. It looked like a fairy tale castle.
"Only one way to find out" Nick replied with a smile. God, I would do anything for that smile to stick to his face forever I swear.
We walked into the building and yet again, the interiors did not fail. Only that it was super dusty though.
"I thought you were stronger than the white coven" I started, looking at Nick. His smile was now replaced with the usual blank, unemotional, unloving look.
“Yeah, why?“ He asked coldly. But not as cold as usual.
“Well, how did you let them have a way more good looking castle than yours?“ I asked.
“Well, first, our castle looks better than this”
“Oh, does it?“ I joked.
"Yes, and secondly, that isn't our royal castle," Nick said, making his way through the halls.
“It's not?“ I was confused.
“Yeah, that is just my palace. The royal castle is located in the dark coven empire. It's a city, just like this” he said makings things clear.
“So, you have a city and people to rule, but left to stay in the woods!“ I yelled, this guy has a kingdom to rule but left. And now he has also left the palace just to hunt for a teenage girl.
“No, no, no, I didn't leave the empire empty” he chuckled.
"My Father is there" he added, still laughing lightly.
“You have a father?“ I blurted out without thinking.
"Yeah, why do you sound so surprised," he asked shifting his gaze to where I was.
“Well, with the way you behave, I thought you were the ultimate ruler” I murmured.
We were checking one room at a time.
“Ultimate ruler? And I'm still addressed as Prince? Not king?”
"owwhhhh, I should have thought of that," I said, realizing how dumb I was.
"I'm not surprised, low IQ" Nick muttered making me furious, it's bad enough the way it was. Why did he have to mention that?
“Can't you just check the whole place at a go? It's going to take forever if we continue at this pace” I said changing the topic.
“Yeah right” Nick replied as if he was just reminded that he is a Vampire and he could speed things up.
.
"They are not here Kendra. This place is empty" Nick said, appearing in front of me.
“Did spike bring us to the wrong place?“ I asked, looking around for the naughty bat.
“No, I doubt that. With the way things look around here, they must have been here some time ago. Maybe earlier this morning " Nick replied.
“So, spike tracked them to this point. That means they left right when we got here” I suggested.
So they fucking got a narrow escape.
Lucky.
“We can still get them. We just need spike to teleport us one more time”
