Vampire Shadows

Chapter 45

"Are you sure she is the one?" The man accompanying the first speaker said in a serious tone.

"Of course father, anyone can recognize her, he was dragging her through the town square a while ago," he answered.

The older man whom he addressed as his father bent  slowly and stretched his hands toward me.

"Stay away from me monsters!" I barked, standing up and making my way to the nearby bushes. It was getting dark and the town people were all leaving for their homes.

"Oh well well, we are not monsters rather you are. we just want to help!" The son said,  offended by the way I addressed them. What choice do I have, they all saw how that man publicly abused me, but no one even cared to say a word or even make an attempt to stop him. And now, after I've fought for myself and managed to escape, they claim they are trying to help! And how do I even know that they aren't working for him?

"Look, you are hurt, let us help!" the son said, trying to get closer to me.

"Help? Do you really want to help? You should have done that when I was being dragged like a doggie in your little Town square, not now that I'm free! " I spat!

"Free? Well suit yourself, you are going to bleed to death even if he doesn't find you, which he definitely would"

Bleed to death? I looked at him in confusion. he used his chin to point at my left hand which the man gripped earlier.

I have been bleeding this whole time and I didn't even notice it! Who would have known that a tight hold on someone can make the person bleed?

I raised the now aching hand and stared at it in horror, there were all sorts of specks of dirt on it. If I don't treat it immediately, I could get infected.

"If you really want to help me, then show me a way out of this town," I said, hoping they will cooperate.

"You really want to leave here? How sad. Well sorry to break it to you, but there is no way out. You can't leave"

"What?"

"Yeah, you heard me. Now stop being stupid and come along with us"

"Jeremy, be nice, you are scaring the poor thing!" His father yelled at him. He must be feeling bad because of the way I was looking right now. The guy named Jeremy just said that there was no way out of this place, I didn't understand what he said clearly, but whatever it is he was trying to say, does not sound good.

"What do you mean I can't leave"

"You really want to waste my time and  yours explaining that?" Jeremy fired. When they first got here he was acting as if he was sad about my condition, and now he's all mad and furious because I called them monsters?

"Dear, it's getting dark, it won't be safe for you in the forest. Come on now, let's go get this wound cleaned" his father said with a warm smile.

It still didn't make me trust them though, because why would they want to help me to start with? What's in it for them? Are they going to hand me to the mean grumpy guy? But then, on the other hand, I don't really have a choice. either way, that guy will still catch me if he wants to.

"Okay," I said.

"Let's get out of here before people start noticing us," Jeremy said, and started walking, I followed suit and his father followed from behind.

Surprisingly, we weren't headed toward any of the buildings, we moved in the opposite direction, where the trees, and bushes were located, it was like a little forest.

"Where are you taking me?" I asked feeling a bit wary.

"To a place where you can be fixed" was Jeremy's brief reply.

"And why are we leaving the town, didn't you say we can't do that?"

"Correction, I said YOU can't do that. And, we are still in town, only in a secluded part"

I didn't ask any more questions. Instead, I used the moment to enjoy my surrounding, it was undeniably breathtaking. The trees and flowers were all beautiful and to some extent, unique. I guess this place is really far from places I know because I have never seen most of the plants and flowers here before.

"We are home!" Jeremy yelled when we got to a really big but old house, it looked like the houses I have seen in the village. Very local.

"Jeremy!" A lady rushed out of the house. She had a big and warm smile on her face.

"Welcome home, why were you out soo lat…" she started but stopped at the sight of me.

"Oh, Jeremy, you brought a friend?" She asked, staring at me. No one said a word and it seemed like the longer she stares the more her smile fades.

"Honey, she had a little accident and we thought of bringing her back to help" Jeremy's father who is this woman's husband said.

"Well, Alfred, what makes you think that bringing a girl who was with HIM is such a good idea?" she growled.

"Mom, you know who she is?"

"Of course I do, did you think you and your dad can just fool me? I was also in town today and I saw it all happen. Eldred is going to come after our lives real soon, it's better you stay out of his business!" hmm so that's his name, Eldred. Creep.

"But we can't leave her like that, God only knows how many infections she'll get from that injury" Alfred yelled.

"I don't know how a stranger's problem is any of our business." The lady said angrily, she then moved to where I was trying my best to hide my face behind her son an pulled me to where she was. Staring at me for a few seconds, her eyes widened, making me wonder what that was about.

"Alfred, Jeremy, how dare you! Have you guys lost it? Bringing a vampire into our home?" Okay, how on earth did she find out what I am?

"These creatures…"

"Whatever they are, letting her die just like that will make us the same. Helping her is what differentiates us" Alfred barked and it was obvious they were about to have a fight.

"But Alfred you know the dangers, let's let them settle their scores together. They are of the same kind after all!"

"Jeremy, take her in," Alfred said, while he faced his wife and they continued their argument.

Jeremy led the way, holding my unbruised hand lightly.

.

The interiors were nothing I expected it.

It was beautiful! Not in a luxurious kind of way like the evil prince's castle, but in a cozy and warm way.

The furniture was made of wood, carved in a very detailed way. The chandeliers and other little accessories had vintage looks.

Their taste and way of arranging stuffs made it look like they were living in the past. Or as though, we were in another dimension.

Everything felt strange, and the fact that they were aware of the existence of vampires and just decide to ignore it doesn't sound like something humans will do.

.

"You should be fine now," Jeremy said giving me a small smile.

"Thank you" I started,

"I'm sorry about the way I behaved a while ago, I just couldn't trust anyone. Things here don't seem normal"

"Hey, it's okay, I understand you"

He stood up, heading towards the entrance of what seemed like a kitchen.

"Let me get you something to eat"

"No, it's fine I'm not hungry, thanks" I lied, but who was I kidding, I was starving at the moment. I can't even remember the last time I ate. Plus, I might be needing blood anytime soon, I don't know how I'm supposed to feed without looking like a freak.

Luckily, Jeremy didn't listen to me and walked straight to the kitchen.

He came back with a plate of cookies and warm milk.

I gulped it down the moment he handed it to me.

"So, what's your plan?" He asked when I was done with my meal.

"What do you mean plan?"

"We can't hide you here forever you know"

"Yes, I do, I wasn't planning on staying."

"Well, what will you do? leaving the town is impossible"

"What do you mean?" I asked, I remember he was saying something like that when they met me crying. But it doesn't make sense, what's this whole not leaving the town thing about?

"You just can't.." was all he said, making me even more confused. But it didn't seem like he was going to talk about it.

"I'll try communicating with my friend telepathically then."

"You can't do that also…"

He said, and the look he was giving me was as if he wanted to tell me something.
