Vampire Shadows

Chapter 29

"Well, why not?" I asked surprised that they even said I won't come to start with.

"Because it's too dangerous that's why," Max said, sounding like the f**cking big brother he is, I stared at him in utter disbelief.

"So, you really want to go on a mission to save my sister, without me!" I yelled. How on earth is that fair? The first time we discussed finding the stone before the Prince, they included me in the plan _well kinda_ and now that it's time to go, they are planning on cutting me off.

"I thought I was part of this!" I added getting angrier by the moment.

"Yes, you were part of this when it was a rescue mission. But right now it's a bigger wider and more dangerous thing. It's about the fate of the world. This could be the beginning of world war III." Josh said, trying his best to sound reasonable.

"Yes kara, this is war, I can't just let you throw yourself at it," Max said tapping my shoulder calmly.

"Yes, I understand that but I'm a part of it!" If you ask me, I'm one of the major parts of this war, the war wouldn't start until the prince finds me and realizes that I don't have the stone.

"Kara it's like you are not getting it. This is dangerous." Max said this time he wasn't calm, in fact, he sounded a bit pissed. But I didn't care, I can't just sit here and do nothing, not when there's something to do. It's not right.

"Yeah, and you think I can't handle danger? I was in the enemy's castle some hours ago and now you think I can't handle this?"

"Look, I think you guys should think this through, going with kara might actually be useful. If the prince wants her so badly, that means there's something about the stone that has to do with Kara's family. Maybe there's a thing about unlocking the stone that only kara can do, you never know." Jasmine said from the other side of the room and this got Josh and Max thinking.

"Alright, the water girl might have a point," max said and Josh gave him an approving nod.

"I'll go get the things you'll need for The journey ready," Layla said before excusing herself.

.

Max and Josh were planning the trip and marking the places we should follow, to the stops we should make.

"Hey," I said to Jasmine when I got to where she was. She was sitting beside Nathan and going through some books. She raised her head slightly, giving me a questioning look.

"I just wanted to thank you for helping me convince them back there," I said feeling weirdly nervous. But I had to thank her, for someone who almost killed me last night, I think we are getting along quite well since after the,

"I'll do anything to get rid of you." She said in a way that I assumed was a joke but and, that she was damn serious after seeing the look on her face.

"Ohh, thanks anyway" was all I could think of before leaving the room.

.

"So, where do we start?" I asked the boys when I got to the living room, totally putting my conversation with jasmine behind me.

Max and Josh both looked at me, and together they said "your house."

Two words, just two words made my day. "My house?" I can't believe it. I never thought I'll be able to see it again . "why would we go there," I asked, even though I was thrilled about going home, I still need to know the reason.

"Well, because that's the only place that might have a lead to where the stone is," Josh said, which made a little sense.

"Or maybe it's in the house, maybe aunt Amber had it hidden somewhere there, incident," Max said, which also makes sense. "I thought you all said the only lead was in the old vampire empire," I asked trying to remember what they said yesterday.

"well, yeah that was yesterday. we change our mind. by the way, just as jasmine said, the prince believes that the stone is with you. that means it's gotta have something to do with your family." Josh said.

They kept planning and planning, they said we would travel by day and rest by night even though it'll be hard for them. They will be no teleporting because it would lead the other vampires to us, or even worse they might be able to find the realized den.

We didn't have any other specific plan since we didn't know what was waiting for us.

Layla asked us to take a rest after packing our things.

.

It was a beautiful morning, and who would have thought such a beautiful day can be the beginning of an adventure that might be our doom?

We were all ready, we looked really ready. The outfits Layla made for us scream danger, it was all black, and the first thing that would come to one's mind when they use is _danger_. Or robbers actually. But either way, we looked really great.

"Take care, you guys. Be careful." Layla said as we got ready to leave.

"We will." josh answered dryly.

We got to where the horses were kept and once again, they were three horses.

"Uhmm you know I can't ride," I said drawing Layla's attention.

"Why not?" Max asked from behind me.

"Because I don't know how to?" I replied dryly.

"Owwwwh., No worries, you can ride with me then," he said, and that brought a stupid smile plastered on my face.

"Okay." I said, trying my best to hide my joy.

He picked the black horse while Josh picked the brown one.

I mounted the horse first _with a little help from, max, of course,_ and then max did, sitting behind me.

"Don't fall off pretty face" josh said and that reminded me of Nathan, the way he calls me princess and stuff, ohh I wish he was here, or at least I wish he was fine.

"Is that a family thing?" I asked josh raising a brow.

"What? What are you talking about" josh asked sounding unaware of what I meant? I just shook my head as we rode out of the witch's den.

Josh and Nathan do have similarities, like their fun nature. But josh is the wild type while Nathan is the reserved and caring type. But their striking resemblance makes it impossible to forget about Nathan.

.

Max came to a sudden halt.

"What's wrong?" I asked cause it wasn't time to take a break or stop. His body was tensed as he looked around the bushes his eyes searching for something.

I don't know what's going on, but it doesn't sound or feel good. Josh must have sensed it too because he also stopped moving and started also looking around.

It's like they could hear something in the bushes that I couldn't.

Probably vampire stuff.

"Stay close," Max said in what sounded like a whisper.

I didn't know what that meant exactly but I don't think I have any other choice.

I started hearing low growls from the bushes.

Max held the horse reigns tightly, he gave josh this _are you ready look_ and Josh gave him a positive nod.

The growling sounds increased by the moment. My heart was beating hard and fast trying my best not to imagine what was behind the bushes.

The next thing I saw was something move in front of us fleetly.

It was so fast I couldn't tell what it was.

It moved again, crossing over to the other side of the bushes. making it clear that it was trying to scare us, or maybe warn us.

Max was tensed and so was josh.

"The creature looks like an animal, and last time I checked animals are scared of people," I whispered to Max.

"Not just any animals, these are werewolves," Max whispered back. And my eyes widened in surprise. I don't know why I was surprised about the existence of werewolves. Since I've been in the company of Vampires and witches for a while now, I'm supposed to get used to the idea of all these supernatural beings, but the truth is the more I know the more surprised and freaked out I get.

"So, lemme guess, they are evil," I told max even though I knew this wasn't the right time to hold this conversation.

"Not really, I wouldn't say evil. But they don't like vampires."

"Unbelievable, no one like vampires, you guys just have to be on everyone's black list huh?" I asked cause I was really getting pissed with the Idea of everyone hating vampires. First the witches, and now werewolves. If they weren't such trouble makers, then I'm sure they wouldn't gather such enemies.

.

"You are in our territory," the giant werewolf said finally revealing itself. It was huge and had silver coloured fur with long sharp pointy claws.

"We don't want any trouble, we come in peace. Just passing by." Max said sounding really confident. For someone who stepped into another person's territory, I'll say too confident.

"Vampires? Peace? How ironic" the werewolf guy said, As he transformed into his human self. He wasn't what I expected at all, he looked freaking good and his hair, silver just like his fur. I have never seen anything like it.

"Let us leave and we won't hurt you," Josh said in what sounded like a threat.

"I think the only one to be making conditions here is me. You can win a fight any other day, but today, you are outnumbered. It's the three of you versus a whole pack.“ the werewolf guy said with a huge evil grin.

And just like that werewolves started coming from the bushes, and before we knew it, we were surrounded.

"We are just passing by, please," I said in the most terrified tone making the werewolf guy move close to where I was.

"Kara vampires don't beg, especially not wolves," Max said, showing his disgust over my pleas.

"Can you vampires for once let go of your ego? We are so going to lose this fight and you know it." I barked at him.

"Hmmm we have a half human amidst us, how rare." The silver-haired werewolf said this time moving really close to our horse.

"We need to leave this place, please, we don't want any trouble, this is the shortest route to our destination," I said trying my best not to look intimidated, although I felt so.
