Vampire Shadows

Chapter 19

Kara***

It's day two. the vampire's castle is less than 48 hours away. the closer we get, the more i feel nervous.

"Nathan, why should i be the one to get max and not kendra?" I asked curiously. the question has been on my mind all day. Max is locked up in a more secure dungeon, and I'm obviously not as strong or experienced as Nathan. "well, max and I are not on good terms, if I go we'll spend more time fighting than actually escaping. Don't be afraid, layla's potion will help clear the coast, as long as we don't waste time, we will come out safely. And, i'll teach you how to use your powers before we get there."

"my powers?" i asked getting excited.

"well yeah, all vampires possess special powers. you see, kara, there are four basic elements 'AIR, WATER, FIRE & EARTH. a vampire can possess only one of the four. then there are other powers like, mind reading, teleporting hypnoses, and many more. you can have all of that at once, depending on how much you are willing to learn." he said.

This whole powers stuff is really cool, this is the vampire stuff I think I will love. not all those blood-sucking parts.

"so master," i teased.

"do I get to pick the element i want," I asked.

"noo, the element chooses you." he answered.

"ughh" was all i could say. quite disappointing.

"it's okay kara, i'm sure you'll love your element." he said reassuringly.

"so, when do i start using it." I asked hopefully again.

"well, normally, it's meant to start revealing it self at the age of sixteen. but since your case is different, we'll have to find it ourselves," he replied.

"find it? that sounds hard." I mumbled.

"trust me, it's not that hard, it's already inside of you, you just need to look within yourself," he said.

"ohh stop it nathan, you sound like a hippy. how am i supposed to look within myself."

"okay, kara, we will practice before going to bed." he said ending the conversation.

.

the rest of the ride was silent until the sun began to set. Nathan and I put out our sleeping bags and set the fire, using some of layla's magic, we protected our surroundings against vampires.

nathan caught some fish in the stream and we roasted them. we went blood hunting and fed on wild animals. I tried hunting mine on my own, but after five failed attempts, he gave me a hand. then we returned to the camp site and started practicing my powers.

"sit, relax close your eyes," nathan instructed, and i did as i was told.

"now tell me what you see," he said sounding a bit creepy.

"uhmmn darkness...." was my honest reply. this was like the tenth time we were doing this, and all I could really see was darkness.

"no no no" nathan said sound pissed.

"I'm sorry, but that's all i see. this is hopeless." I said standing up.

"no sit! lets try something else." he said with hope. I sat down again and he said. "think about fire, think about flames, is that all you see? "he asked.

" yes" i said shortly.

"good, imagine you are holding the flames in your hands." he said, and I did just that. my imagination felt so real that i could see the flames.

maybe fire is my special element.

.

after sitting for what felt like forever, i opened my eyes. "Nathan, i'm getting sick of this, I have been imagining fire and nothing has happened yet,". i said.

"yeah, I wonder why it's taking so long." was all he said.

"maybe fire isn't your element after all, let's try something else, how about earth?" he asked raising a brow excitedly.

I don't know what sounds exciting about controlling dumb rocks, so i wasn't excited at all.

"earth can be really nice and handy." he said trying to persuade me.

"so you want me to close my eyes and imagine a bunch of rocks?" i asked a bit irritated.

"no, kara, you don't have to imagine stuff to use earth power, cause we have rocks everywhere! take a look." he said, and with that he raised one foot and hit the ground with force. he ground suddenly revealed a tunnel, just like the one he created when we first met. the one that lead us to the witches den. WOW, so nathan has earth powers! amazing!

"that's not the only thing I can do, princess, there's a lot more." he said

"wanna see?" he added.

I nodded in approval, and with a huge grin on his face, he started moving his hands in an unusual manner, as if he was raising something huge. all of a sudden a huge rock that was sitting on the ground the whole time was raised high up. he moved his hands as if throwing the rock. and it fell to the direction he choose with great force, crushing the trees.

"wow nathan you have to teach me all that." I screamed in excitement.

"chill, kara." he said, then raised his hands as if covering himself, then, a wall made of rocks came from the ground, creating a barrier between us.

i didn't know what to say at the moment, so i started clapping my hands in amusement. and Nathan bowed appreciating my praises.

"kara, the only limit to how much you can use your power is your imagination. just put in practice and you'll be able to do just about anything." he said.

"so, now let's see if your element is the earth element."

"how?" i asked.

he picked up a small piece of rock about the size of a mug and placed it in front of me.

"okay, so concentrate on the rock, don't think of anything that is not the rock, clear your mind, only the rock should be on your mind." he said.

"are you there?" he asked. i didn't reply but shook my head in approval, i didn't want to lose focus.

"now think about moving it to a particular direction and demonstrate it with your hands".
