Chapter 12
"Where the hell did she get günes potion?" She asked, glaring at Nathan.
He didn't say anything. He just lowered his head, I could see a guilty look on his face.
" I taught you and Amber magic because I trusted you! I never thought you'd use it in such a reckless manner, Nathan!"
"Layla listen…"Nathan tried to cut in. But Layla wasn't in the mood to listen. "quiet Nathan! I know Amber had a good reason but she doesn't know her actions will put her daughter in danger.
Kara is a half Vampire and no amount of potion is going to change that." she yelled.
" What? …." Nathan asked, he looked really confused at the moment. And that made me feel more scared.
"Yes! You heard me right! The günes potion is only going to delay her turning. She's still going to turn! She'll get her powers, but, it'll come in the most dreadful, painful, and unbearable way. It'll come at once, she won't be able to control it. If you're not careful, we might lose her!" My eyes widened, what does she mean to lose me? I felt like crying but I couldn't. The tears won't come. I was too scared to cry.
I saw Layla walk towards me, she sat down facing me and held my wrist tightly, then, she closed her eyes. I shut my eyes as I felt a sting on my wrist. I opened them only after she left my wrist.
"The potion is running in her veins. I think I can work on an antidote that can help." She stood up before adding "I also have a half Vampire. Even though I can't accept her, I can't use such drastic methods either." She added.
Her eyes trailed off to the tent's entrance as she added the last part. Then, she turned around and entered a room in the tent.
My attention was drawn to the tent's entrance. A slim figure was standing there, her eyes huge and glowy her nose was slightly pointed and her lips were pink and plump. Her hair was black and thick, and also a bit messy. I looked at her from head to toe, over and over again. She had everything! Height, small waist, pretty face! I admired her quietly. My eyes went back to her face, and that's when it hit me! Her eyes, those Sapphire blue eyes, the face! She looks like Layla! Everything looks the same. Except for the hair and skin tone of course. I kept starting and I could feel that she noticed. So, I put my head down feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Jasmine!" I heard Nathan say, putting an end to the discomfiting silence.
"Hey, Nathan!"she said, her eyes finally leaving me.
She walked to where he was and gave him a big hug. 'Woah they must be really close.'
"Look who has turned eighteen! Jasmine is a big girl now." Nathan said, with a huge grin on his face
"Yup! I'm not that little girl you used to Know" she replied with a beaming smile.
"So how has everything been?" Nathan asked her.
"Normal. Mom's ignoring me even more now. You know, because I'm turning." She replied sadly.
So, Jasmine is Layla's daughter. she happens to be a half-vampire and a half-witch? Now that's scary.
"Who's this?" Jasmine asked, rudely pointing at me.
"Uhm, this is Kara, she's a friend. Kara, this is Jasmine, Layla's daughter." Nathan said.
"A human?" Jasmine asked least politely.
"No, she's a uhhhm, half Vampire," Nathan answered, stammering.
"She is?" Jasmine asked. She moved close to me and looked into my eyes. Then she said
"I don't sense any magic around her." She asked doubtfully.
"She hasn't turned yet." was Nathan's short reply
"Ohhh," Jasmine said as she looked at me. Maybe she thinks I'm younger than her now. Ughhhh.
They continued their conversation.
My thoughts trailed back to what happened earlier. So, if mom hasn't used that potion on me, I'd be a half Vampire already. I didn't know how to feel about it. It's creepy and a bit exciting at the same time. I hope there's a solution to whatever damage the potion is going to cause.
"You guys, dinner is ready." Layla's voice interrupted my thoughts.
I looked in the direction her voice was coming from. She was standing by the tent's inner Chamber entrance. Unlike the way she left us, she looked Happy now. As if she has accomplished something.
"Kara, Nathan, you should come to eat and get some rest." She said before entering the chamber.
I stood up after Nathan and Jasmine and we all headed to where Layla was.
.
The first thing that caught my attention
was the painting on the wall. It was a painting of three beautiful young ladies standing side by side. I could tell the one by the left-hand side was Layla.
and the one in the middle was my mom!! Wow!. Seeing mom's picture makes me feel all sad again.
I finally took my eyes off the painting and looked around the room. It wasn't actually a room, just a mini dining hall. The table wasn't that big. It contained only six chairs. The walls were decorated and the lights were dim. It made me imagine what it'll feel like to have a date in this place. And that awkwardly reminded me of Max. Oh, I wonder what he's up to now. I hope nothing happens to him.
Layla held my hands and led me to the table. I sat, and she sat beside me. Jasmine and Nathan made their way to the table too.
The food on the table wasn't very attractive. It was meat! Only meat!
What made things worse was that only mine was cooked. The rest had fresh meat with blood dripping from it! How am I supposed to eat this?
I accepted my fate when I noticed everyone sucking and biting on their meal.
.
I was done with my meal so I just stared at the rest of them. I noticed Nathan was more interested in the blood than the meat. Probably because he was a vampire.
My attention was drawn to a lady dressed in black who appeared out of nowhere. She was short with grey hair.
"Ma'am, it's ready." She said as she moved closer. She handed a jar to Layla, and without uttering a word, then left.
"Kara, I've got great news," Layla said almost bursting with joy.
"The antidote is ready!" She said with a smile of success.
"Wow! Layla you really did it," Nathan said.
"Yes! Now kara, prepare to start getting your half Vampire powers." Layla added.
"Wow mom, don't you think our little perfect guest is receiving too much honor?
By the way, I thought you hated half Vampires. But clearly, the only person you hate is me!" Jasmine said cutting in. She then stood up abruptly and stormed out of the room.
My eyes didn't leave her until she was out of sight. I noticed that she wasn't on good terms with her mom from the start. But her outburst was really surprising.
"I'm sorry for that Kara, she can be like that sometimes," Layla said.
"I think you are being hard on her Layla," Nathan said firmly.
"I mean, you have a problem with her dad, not her. She's also a victim here." He added.
"Nathan stay out of this. You can't tell me how to treat my daughter." Layla said. She took a deep breath and continued. "Just face your problems and let me face mine."
Returning her attention to me, she added. "Here's the antidote. It'll be injected into your body. The günes potion will leave your system gradually. Since you're already eighteen, your powers will start manifesting immediately. It might be too fast for you, so you'll need help. Nathan will guide you through out the process. And I'm sure everything will be fine."
She left after injecting the antidote into me.
Nathan carried me to my room because I was feeling dizzy due to the effect of the antidote.
Nathan said I'll be experiencing a few side effects. He said we'll continue our journey once I recover.
I was having mixed emotions about this whole thing.
On one hand, I am grateful that Layla saved me from the günes potion's effects. But on the other hand, I am scared and nervous about how it'll feel to be a half Vampire.
