Chapter 29. Death Trap

Jack

I know that one day, it had to come out that she is indeed the daughter of the hunter King. But this was not the moment! The complete pack was in disarray in matter of seconds as Dennis had spilled that information! People stood up and started to yell, others began to whisper, mothers picked up their cubs and look frightened towards her.

I focused my look on Dennis, but he was just gloating in all this chaos, still fucking eating his meal! My anger boiled in my body, and as I partially shifted, I let out a numbing roar. My chair tumbled backwards, nails dug in the table in front of me, glasses and bowls tipped over.

“HOW DARE YOU DO THIS!” I roared to Dennis.

He flinched backwards, as I intimidated him with my voice, but then quickly took an arrogant stance again, as he crossed his arms and breathed calmly through his nose.

“All I want, is for our pack to be safe. And by accepting ‘her’,” He pointed to Doreen, and looked as if she was something foul. “a human nonetheless, as your mate, you have sealed our fate and have caused doom to knock on our doors, soon.” He said, just loud enough to be heard by plenty of people.

I looked around, and saw that my complete pack was waiting for an explanation. Doreen touched my shoulder and surprised I looked her way. “Please Jack, you know he is right. I can’t put you and all these people here at risk.” She said while looking really sad. “I’ll pack my stuff and leave at sunrise.” She whispered and took a seat.

The make-up that Vic has put on her, was now being damaged as she rubbed her eyes, and I wanted to comfort her with all my might. But seeing her like this, embarrassed and defeated, only made me angrier! “NO!” I shouted.

I stepped away from the table, and got more in the middle of my pack, making sure that everyone could understand the words that I was going to say, and read the expressions on my face that I was going to show.

“The brutal King Deveraux, is indeed your Luna’s father.” I started, while still using her title, as I didn’t want her to be pushed down from that throne. “But, you have to trust me when I say that there is no single cell in that beautiful body of hers, that thinks about hurting you.” Some of them looked into her direction, as if they wanted to make sure that they could see those ‘cells’ that wouldn’t want to hurt them.

“Your Luna, as that is what she will become, has faced near rape! Only because she chose to be captured by those same hunters, that she has been running from for three years already, instead of turning around the car and lead them straight into our town! It would have caused many other lives, if she had done that!” I continued and now some of the people were nodding in agreement.

“We will face and overcome whatever may come our way. And if anyone doubts my judgement, please say now, or never speak of this again!” I boomed and everyone began to take their seats again.

I sighed, but I have to take care of this. I know my own parents have chosen Dennis to become my Beta, and I know he has nearly sacrificed his own life to keep Doreen safe, but he had overstepped his boundaries. I turned myself towards him again, but he was back to eating his meal.

“Dennis, due to disrespecting your Alpha and Luna, and to cause chaos in my pack, I hereby strip you from your title. You are no longer my Beta.” I stated.

Some gasps were heard from members of my pack, but strangely not from Dennis. He didn’t even look up to me, when I had said that!

“Nope, you won’t do that.” He chuckled and took another bite.

He was making me angrier by the second, as his arrogance was infuriating me! “Start talking Dennis, because my patience wears thin!”

He finally turned around, looking at me, while his smile only grew wider. “You wouldn’t want to lower my rank, because if you do, I’ll give daddy dearest a call, and make sure to tell him where his precious little girl is.” He linked me.

I don’t know how or why he is doing this, but I can’t have this conversation in front of everyone. “Inside now!” I yelled to him.

“Vic, take Doreen to my house, and command my first squad to guard you two.” I linked to her, and she nodded.

I ignored Doreen for now, as my fury was directed to Dennis. Our conversation is long from over!

“Tell me! What have you done!” I roared to him, once we were in my office.

“Oh, when you told me that she was a Deveraux, I went back to the motel and within the debris, I had found a mobile phone. I managed to get in contact with Doreen’s father and made a little deal.” He said as clear as day.

“YOU’RE DEAD!” I roared and reached for his neck, shifted my claws out and pierced his skin.

He coughed from the force around his throat, but smiled again. “You’d better not kill me, because if you do,” He chokingly coughed. “a message with the coordinates of your house is being sent to her father. Every hour, an automatic message is set to be send, but I can stop that from happening, with a password only I know, so…”

“AARGH!” I roared again, but released his throat. “What do you want!?” I yelled.

“Get Doreen to a private location outside the pack, then I’ll send a message to her father with her coordinates, and they will retrieve her without our pack being harmed.” He said.

This is the most high form of betrayal! Sending his own Luna away, to a life of horror, maybe even condemning her to death as well!

His stupidity about this whole situation is beyond recognition! Does he truly believe that the hunter King would actually leave us be, when he has his daughter back? After she is safe under his ‘care’ he will do whatever it takes to get to our packhouse and start a war anyway! Damien knows our pack house is somewhere in this forest, so he will burn it down if he has to!

So, I can’t kill Dennis as otherwise that message could be send, but I obviously can’t give Doreen back to her father either, but I do have to keep my pack safe! But how? I paced back and forth, around my office, while Dennis was just standing there. He was looking at me, with a smirk on his face, he clearly thinks that he has all the good cards of the deck.

“What time limit have you agreed upon, with her father?” I asked Dennis and he looked at me with surprise.

“You are going to go through with it?” He asked me with wide eyes.

I gnashed my teeth together. I will never give my love up, not without a fight! But I have to get me some more time… “The pack’s safety is more important, right?” I asked him, and he nodded.

“A month from now.” He said.

“How did you manage that?” I asked him in surprise.

“I’m not stupid, Jack!” He said without using my title. “If it is a trap, than we need to be prepared! I told him that we needed time to prepare, and if he wouldn’t comply to that, I told him I would kill Doreen myself!” He said.

No he is not stupid, he is right about that. He is a fucking moron instead!

No matter how much time he had asked for, Damien would have agreed to anything with that stupid deal of his! Either way, if he would get his daughter back in one piece, he would burn the forest down. And if he didn’t get his daughter back alive, he would still burn the forest down!

It doesn’t matter to him! He hasn’t had his daughter for three years already! This sick son of a bitch probably doesn’t love her anymore anyway, she could have been dead already for all he cares! Besides, hunting down a complete pack is going to be a trophy for him, maybe it’s even more worth to him than getting his daughter back! All he has to do, is wait for a month, and he can have both his daughter and my pack!

So, whatever I was going to come up with as a plan, Dennis can’t know about it! The upside is, that I have a month to come up with something, to get me a better leverage against him. I need to find a way, to safe both Doreen and my pack!

“Fine, a month from now. Go tell him you accept the deal!” I said to him.

“Oh, no. Not before you have corrected your mistake.” He said.

“What mistake?”

“Tell the pack, that you have misjudged me, that I’m not stripped from my title and that you will give up their Luna, to keep the pack safe.” He boldly claimed.

Now I’m laughing, and he looked confused. “I’ll tell the pack I have been wrong, so you keep your title. But if you think that I’m going to give up my Luna, so easily, you are terribly mistaken. I will find a way, to keep her safe, I’ll bet you my life for it.” I said while stalking closer to him.

He began to shiver, as my voice got more intimidating with each word I said. As he took a few steps backwards, he began to realize that he was the one that had made a mistake.

No one threatens me, or my Luna!

After all this is over, Dennis is dead!

But for now, there was still something bugging me. Because, even if I would comply to his demands and give up Doreen, does he still think that he could stay my Beta, after everything would be safe again? I don’t believe his only motive for this dangerous deal, is that he wants our pack to be safe and for him to keep his title. There is this strange vibe, inside of me, telling me that there is something more going on here.

A/n: So, what is Dennis up to now? 🤬
