Chapter 27. Training

Doreen

“Have you seen Dennis today?” I asked Vic, while panting like a lung-patient who smokes two packs a day.

“Nope, but Jack said he is caught up with pack security, making sure that we notice it when your father’s hunters come back.” Vic said totally relaxed, even though we have been running for five miles already.

I stopped running and looked at her. “You know about my father?” I asked her.

“Yes, Jack can’t keep secrets from me. But don’t worry, I know you good enough that you didn’t want to cause any trouble. Besides, you are Jack’s mate, and we finally have a Luna, so to me it doesn’t really matter what your origin is.” She said comforting me.

I surprised her as I stepped forward, and then I grabbed her shoulders and hugged her fiercely.

“Thanks.” I said, after she wrapped her arms around me as well. “Don’t thank me yet! We still need to get through basic training and weightlifting!” She shouted as she worked herself free from my hold and started running again.

I looked amazed towards her, does she know how to fight as well? “Vic, wait up!” I yelled, but she was around the corner already.

I took a deep breath, and jumped up to get myself worked up to run the last mile in one go. Step after step, I got encouraged to go faster and managed to keep my breathing in a steady motion.

‘You can do this!’ I whispered, and pushed myself even further.

Soon, around another corner or two, I had found Vic to be in my vision again. I ran and ran, until I could touch her back with my stretched out fingers. “What the hell! Where did you come from!” She yelled surprised and jumped to the side.

“Yeah sure, you just slowed down, so I could catch up to you.” I huffed, and continued to jog to the end, ignoring her jokes.

Jack

I was sitting at the lake behind the training field, I just had done two laps going back and forth, across the whole lake, and now I was using my towel to dry myself.

The peace around here, was something that I needed, as I had been clashing with Dennis since yesterday. I know that he means well, and that he wants to keep the pack protected. I do too, but I also press value to having a Luna in my pack.

Besides, I can’t believe that he thinks that I would let my mate go that easily. The Goddess had meant for us to be together, so there must be a good reason for her to pair me up with a beautiful, yet tiny human.

The wind blew heavily, creating goose bumps on my upper body. Leaves from the forest’s ground whipped up and took a heavenly scent up with it. I quickly scouted the treeline, but couldn’t see her. Then I focused my ears and heard her laughing with Vic, as they jogged towards the training area.

While putting on my shirt, I walked there too, wanting to see why her necklace was off. The scent got stronger, the more I got closer to her. Fur was about to sprout out at my back, until I saw her, taking her necklace off of Vic’s shirt, and quickly held it close to her own chest.

“What’s going on here?” I asked them.

“Oh, nothing. I had given Vic a hug and I guess that’s when my necklace got stuck against her shirt.” She said with a blush on her cheek. “But the clasp is broken, could you maybe help me with that?” She asked me.

A low grumble got out my throat and Vic looked confused. “It’s the necklace, it causes a barrier between us.” I quickly said, and Doreen nodded.

“Right. Is that why you could suddenly run that fast?” Vic asked Doreen, while I was putting a knot in the necklace. “What? You weren’t kidding?” Doreen asked her, and Vic shook her head.

“Care to explain?” I asked them both now.

“Well, you know how fast I can run, right?” Vic asked me and I nodded. “After the hug, I ran, and quickly left her behind, but only a few seconds later, Doreen had gained up on me, and I hadn’t even heard her!” She explained, and it reminded me of another moment where this happened.

At the date, where I had placed the bow back in the rack, I hadn’t heard her walking behind me either. And when Dennis ran after her in bear form, she had managed to stay out of his grasp and she had found the way back to my truck.

Is her necklace not only creating a barrier to our love, but could it also be working as a limiter to her abilities? Could this be proof of her not being completely human? But still, the question remained as to who, what and why the necklace was created!

“Did your mother tell you, where she had gotten the necklace from?” I asked Doreen.

“No, all she said was that the silver Celtic knot, resembles the female empowerment, and that it would protect me. But I still don’t know what it should protect me from.” She said, with a lot of emotion.

While I was trying to get a knot in the necklace, Doreen asked Vic if she really had been that fast. She couldn’t believe it, that a necklace like hers, could prevent her from becoming fast.

“Vic, I need a moment with her. Could you leave us?” I asked her and she nodded and went.

“Sweetheart, is that the real reason why you are not taking it off? That you are afraid?”

Doreen

We walked to a bench that stood at the tree line, and sat down.

“Yes, I know my father is the worst person on the planet, but I don’t believe that my mother is bad too. She said to never take this thing off, as it would protect me. And after experiencing strange things a lot, the past few weeks, I’m only worried of what else might be coming for me.” I explained to Jack.

He told me that he understood my fears, but he said that besides him being able to shift into a bear, there isn’t really much else to explain, that could be supernatural.

“Your mother is gone, and I doubt that your father knows about her reasoning. As otherwise he would never make it his job to find and kill every shifter he comes across with.” He said, and frankly I couldn’t argue against it.

“You could always try to take the thing off, but keep it close with you at all times. That way you could embrace your speed and maybe other abilities, and of course our bond and our love, but when danger arises, you can just put it back on.” He suggested.

It is actually a good plan, but I have to get accustomed to the idea of it. I have to have a straight mind-set for it, for accepting the fact that I might not be human, and truly be ready for his… you know… endeavours… “You are really trying to pull every rabbit out of that hat of yours, to be able to claim me, don’t you?” I said, with the most straight face I could fake.

“What? No! I’d never do anything to you, of which you wouldn’t want me to!” He suddenly yelled defensively.

I wanted to laugh at his reaction, but if I’m ever going to take off this bloody necklace, then I might as well start to get a bit bolder now, right? Let’s get this game a little bit more to the top.

“So, you don’t want to ravish my body? You don’t want to put your cock in every hole available?” I said, crossing my arms and trying to look really angry towards him.

He got a blush on his cheeks! He actually became embarrassed! HA!

“Is that the only thing you want to do with me? Have sex? Is there nothing more to me than my body?” I said angrily, and stood up from the bench. I turned around, and walked away, while glancing one more time backwards. He still sat at the bench, looking at me with a dropped jaw, and then I smiled. Hard.

“Oh! YOU!” He yelled and quickly stood up.

I ran as fast as I could, but of course he had gotten to me within seconds. I yelped and screamed in joy, as he wrapped his arms around my waist and lifted me over his shoulder.

People saw me screaming, as I was hitting Jack’s back, but as they saw me laughing as well, they soon realised that they didn’t need to interfere with our antics. Nor would they if I had cried, because they would never interfere with their Alpha, I suppose.

“Vic! Help me!” I yelled to her, as soon as I had seen her.

“Nope, you’re all on your own!” She yelled back, while laughing loud.

Jack kept on walking, but I couldn’t see where he went, so I had just let myself hang loosely around his shoulder, giving up on trying to get off of it. “You are going to face some serious punishment for that stunt you pulled, sweetheart!” Jack chuckled and lowered me to the ground again.

I thought he was done punishing me, as it was embarrassing enough already, to be seen by plenty of people, while I was hanging over his shoulder! Damn, was I wrong!

“Hold your necklace!” He said, before he suddenly put his hands under my armpits, lifted me up with force, and threw me backwards.

I nearly didn’t have enough time to actually take a hold of my medallion, as it was only a second or two, before my feet landed again… in the water. He had actually thrown me in a lake!

When I finally reached the water’s surface, and gotten the water out of my eyes, Jack was there to fish me out of the lake. I reached out and he pulled me up. No need to try and pull him in the water with me, he was way too strong for that to happen.

“You done playing now?” He asked.

“Hmm… nope.”

He raised one brow, and looked at me curiously. I have a medallion, of which when I take it off, or put it on the back of my neck, he turns into a rabid and aroused bear. Which is way too much fun, to not tease him with…
