Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Albert said to Samantha, “Well, could you be behind all this noise in the classroom?” Casey was beside Albert outside the door. She gave Samantha a meaningful look at his teasing tone. She pondered, “What’s her relationship with Mr. Youngston?”
“Just keeping things in line-it was way too loud. Samantha answered with a shrug. Albert got the hint. She had taken care of the troublemakers who loved to mess with her in the back of the room, Good riddance-they needed that reality check.
“Mr. Youngston, who’s she?” Casey asked, trying to make sense of the situation.
“That’s Samantha. She’s a new student here. Hit her up if you ever have any trouble, Albert introduced her.
Casey nodded but was thrown off the last few words.
“Any drama like today, leave it to me. I got this.” Samantha nodded slightly.
Casey was kind of shocked. “Um, okay…” she laughed, but it sounded hollow. But inside, she thought, ‘How could a girl can manage that class? Even I can’t!”
“Still planning to make those test questions?” Albert faced Samantha and inquired despite having an answer to it.
“Yeah, but they’re gonna be way harder than before. Let the homeroom teachers know they need to pick three kids from each class for the test. Samantha said confidently.
“Sure thing, meeting tonight. Now scoot, get back to class, Albert sent her off.
Feeling Casey’s puzzled eyes on her, Samantha said goodbye to ber and walked toward the classroom.
Inside the room, a bunch of kids were huddled where the knife had landed, gasping and gabbing non-stop.
“Everyone, back to your seats!” Samantha’s voice snapped through the room. She gave the sign-a fist by her mouth, took a deep breath, and the command echoed out.
The kids sprawled out on the floor got the scare of their lives. They knew what Samantha could do, so they scrambled to their feet and sat down without a peep. The others by the podium tidied up their stuff, clearing their desks and straightening
Samantha grabbed a textbook and a piece of chalk and faced the chalkboard.
Some kids in front winced, bracing themselves. They thought she was about to throw the chalk or something. But nope, she just scrawled a notice in big, bold letters. [Tomorrow, 9 AM, between classes, group up in threes. Be in my office to recite “Beowulf” and its translation. Mess up, and you’ll regret it.]
The whole class was thinking. This is bad… They had a flashback of Samantha’s earlier fury and felt like they were under the gun-if they didn’t memorize that text, it was game over. A few breathed easy-they already had it down pat. This new girl’s ruthless. And there’s something weird about her… But nobody wanted to take chances, so they kept their eyes on the handwriting on the board, gulping down their nerves.
Samantha eyed Vera and her companies below, opened the door and shuffled them out one by one, like taking out the trash, careful not to bug the class.
Even Albert and Casey were left speechless. ‘Ease up, maybe?’
She clapped her hands, jammed them into her pockets, and moseyed over to an empty seat. Except, Zachary Brooks was snoozing at the desk next to hers. Samantha kicked his chair.

Chapter 15
“Who is it? What kind of fool… Samantha, it’s you!” Zachary shot up. He waved his hand, ready to chew her out, but his rant. fizzled out when he caught a glimpse of her. He got up, saying nice things about Samantha, but his mind was reeling when he noticed her outfit. ‘Samantha… here just for kicks?
He had his noise-canceling headphones on, missed the whole show, and was now scanning the room, all confused. ‘No, it’s gotta be normal. Samantha had to be behind it.
Samantha laid her jacket out on the table, kicked back, and asked lazily, “Just hanging out. What about you?” She was puzzled. Isn’t this dude just like Boa? Shouldn’t he stand out more?
Zachary saw Samantha’s face and knew she was ticked off. He glanced around at the empty seats, surprised for a second but kept his cool. Figures. Those knuckleheads must’ve ticked off Samantha. Bet they couldn’t even get back up after a beatdown.
Now Samantha was sprawled out, headphones on. “So when did you drop in?”
“I got here two days back. What’s up, Samantha? Zachary said, settling in.
The crowd around gave Zachary weird looks. The guy might’ve just arrived, but in two days, he was already notorious. Getting into fights, huddling with his gang… He was the school bad boy, and even the principal seemed to be at a loss with him!
“Seen this guy named Christopher around lately?” Samantha asked casually.
“Sure, Samantha. What’s up with the genius from Class One?” Samantha only asked about a guy if it was something serious. Zachary couldn’t shake off the feeling, Is Christopher wrapped up in some trouble?”
“What’s the deal with Christopher? You think he’s got game?” Samantha prodded, eyes narrowing.
“Well, I’ve never seen him in action, but rumors say he’s pretty spooky!” Zachary gave her the honest scoop. Though, havin met Christopher a couple of times, Zachary found him less spooky and more… cultured.
“Spooky? Right. I figure he just looks like he could hold his own
The bystanders were lost. Some guessed Samantha had a thing for Christopher-they were both easy on the eyes. But what they didn’t know about Christopher…
“Let’s drop it, Samantha. We’ll see what he’s made of in three days when he takes the test. Hey, we haven’t hung out in ages. How about we catch up with some friends tonight?”
Their last dinner felt like ancient history, a quick meetup where everyone dashed off to their busy lives. Heck, it was last summer when everyone was tied up with the weird disappearances and stuff….
“Alright, Artemis Kitchen it is. Eight tonight. Text me if you’re craving something special.”
Samantha’s voice was a bit scratchy from talking so much. Zachary knew she was worn out and texted a few friends as the eavesdroppers, bummed about the lack of gossip, went back to studying. People were scrambling for books left and right- the class didn’t get the translation down, and their own attempts were a mess!
The teacher had skipped out, leaving them a breather. Turned out, there was this sudden meeting that pulled all the staff
away.
The period flew by, and panic set in-barely a third of the translations were done.
As class wrapped up, everyone stuck around, except Samantha. She headed out, leaving the classroom buzzing with recitation. They had a 20-minute break-plenty of time to cram
