Chapter 9
Coralie
The entire council is defeated in mere minutes, their blood painting the once pristine chapel crimson. I pull back, allowing my beast to retreat as my eyes fall on Darius. I quickly remove the bindings from Jordan and Danny then turn my attention to my fallen friend.
“No…no, no, no. You can’t leave me damn it!” My canines extend and I bite into my wrist, just enough to break the skin and draw blood, then tilt his head. I allow the blood from my wrist to flow into his open mouth. The seconds pass by slowly as I wait for a sign, any sign that he is still with me. I feel my heart breaking as I stare down at him when suddenly his hand shoots up and grabs my arm tightly.
“You just had to sass the head witch.” I laugh, the sound filled with both relief and happiness.
“I thought…I can’t lose you.” His lips curl slightly and he slowly sits up while I undo his bindings.
“Did you truly thing dark magic would be enough to kill me, Coralie? I am the embodiment of darkness.” He smirks and places a hand on my shoulder. I take a moment to scan the room, feeling even more relief at the sight of Jordan and Danny talking to some of our men at the doorway. My eyes land on the glass coffin, excitement, fear and apprehension running through me like a raging river. I walk over to him, my brother, my savior. His body is so weak and frail, his skin as white as snow and his energy nearly depleted. I take his hand in mine and try to push my energy forward, healing his weakened form.
“Luca, come back to me. Please, I need you.” I can feel the energy pulsing through him, but it is still much too weak. I place my other hand on his chest, take a deep breath and as I exhale, I force everything into him all at once. My vision begins to become hazy but a hand wrapping around my wrist and jerking it away from Luca’s chest pulls me back. I look up, staring into the bright blue eyes of my brother as every emotion floods me in a matter of seconds.
“I’ve missed you, Cora.” He sits up and pulls me into his arms, nearly dragging me into the coffin with him.
“I missed you too!” As I pull away from his arms, I watch as he scans the room and feel guilt pushing in until a smile pulls at his lips.
“I see you redecorated the place.” I help him out of the coffin and guide him over to ever growing group of our men who all want to see the mayhem caused by their future luna.
“Luca, these are the people who helped me get here. I believe you already know Darius.” I quirk my brow, giving him an accusatory glare.
“Yeah, we’ve met.” He smiles and a flash of guilt washes over him, but quickly disappears when I speak again.
“This is Alpha Jordan. He’s my mate.” I smile as his jaw drops slightly before his gaze meets mine again.
“Your mate?! It didn’t feel like you two were getting along so well the last few times we spoke, but now you are mated. Damn, I really did miss a lot.” We all chuckle at his shocked state.
“Luca, the witch’s council has fallen. Altier is dead. We are going for the were council next.” The wicked gleam in his eye is enough to know that he is prepared to march with us to battle, prepared to bring the change that will help to save not only our people, but all of the others who are not able to stand and fight.
“I always told you that you were destined for so much more than the council thought you capable of.” He pulls me into his arms and places a gentle kiss on my forehead.
“Alpha, we have the rest of the Haven Crest Pack gathered in the town square. What do you want us to do?” I don’t wait for Jordan to answer the man before turning and walking out of the room. I allow my feet to guide me with confidence as I walk out of the chapel and into the very crowded town square. Jorand, Danny, Darius, Luca and the rest of our men file out behind me, standing quietly as if they are curious to see what I will do. At the top of the steps, I have a perfect view of the gathered crowd.
“Your alpha has fallen. Caleb Altier has fallen. The witch’s council has fallen and the were council will be next. I can feel your fear. I can feel your uncertainty. Today you are being given something that was taken from you long ago. Today you are being given a choice. You can leave, find new homes and live out your lives peacefully, or you can stand with us. We will offer shelter to your children, your elderly and any who cannot fight. Today you are free, but all freedom comes at a cost, one that my mate and I are prepared to pay.”
