Chapter 4
“I wouldn’t try it if I were you, but why do I have a feeling that you aren’t that smart?” One wolf, the one in the center, is slightly larger than the others and he steps forward, silently declaring his leadership and pounding his paw into the gravel.
“Awe, did I hurt the big bad wolfs pride? Not used to being talked to like the filthy little mutt you are?” He crouches down and lets lose an earth shaking growl. I crouch down in front of him and study his movements, the way his shoulders violently rise and fall and the artery in his neck pulses with each frantic beat of his heart. In my current state, still charged from the alpha’s energy, I have something that these wolves will never expect.
As the wolf takes another step forward, I decide to show him what it is that he is messing with. I raise my arms out to my sides and focus on my inner beast, something few have ever seen and even fewer have lived to tell of. The energy in the air around me crackles and my body slowly shifts and bends, my limbs and spine breaking and reshaping until I am standing in all my glory before the group of wolves who now look like they are staring at the reaper. In my beast form, I stand nearly 6 feet tall with glowing white fur and the body of a great white wolf. I stomp my paw into the gravel, mocking the wolf who now looks as though he might soil himself. He howls out his command to attack, but they all hesitate before charging. I take their moment of weakness as an opportunity to unleash the energy that is tearing through me in vicious currents, the sudden surge sending them flying before setting them ablaze as they crash to the ground. Seven of them take off running while two sustain injuries on landing that causes them to succumb to the flames, slowly dying and reduced to nothing but ash and bone. After ensuring that the threat is gone, I draw back in my energy and allow my body to transition back to my lesser form.
“What was that?! Holy shit, Cora! I have never seen anything like that in my life!” I turn to face Danny and give him a smile while shrugging my shoulders.
“We all have our monsters.” I see the alpha approaching from behind him and I am certain I haven’t the energy to deal with anymore for today.
"What kind of dark craft are you working with, witch?!" The alpha growls out. I shoot him a sharp glare, beyond fed up with his arrogance.
"If I were using any dark craft, you would have already been laid low for your insulting and ignorant behavior, yet you still stand." I turn to Danny, not willing to spare the alpha another moment of my time.
“Cora…” I place my fingers on Danny’s lips to silence him.
“I should go. Thank you for being you. If you should ever need anything, you can reach out to me. After all, you know where to find me. Take care, Danny.” I pick up my bag and pull out a round crystal and slam it onto the ground in front of me, watching as the portal slowly opens until I am staring at my shop on the other side. I spare a final angry glance in the alpha’s direction before stepping through.
