Chapter 42
Adelie POV
My body feels much better now as I woke up this morning. Forcing my eyes open about two minutes ago, the blurry figure of Asher welcomes me, and I close my eyes back again.
I try to recall what happened yesterday night, but the only thing I could remember was going back home in a cab in the evening after work, and someone covered my face from behind, which made me pass out. After work yesterday, I decided to go home since I had something to pick from the house. Raymond was going to drop me off, but he got a call that his mom collapsed again, so I told him to go ahead and that I would take a cab home. Turned out that I was abducted, but how I ended up here is what I have no idea about.
"Are you awake?" I quickly recognize the voice to be Asher's, and I snap my eyes open to find him sitting on the chair beside me. Memories of yesterday night came flooding my head, and my heart freeze in my chest as I stare at him. Although I was half asleep yesterday, I can still remember clearly everything that happened. How he sucked their blood dry, and how he commanded Leila to stab herself until she died yesterday.
I gulp down nothing fearfully, my blood suddenly stops pumping, and my body stiffens as I stare at him. Suddenly, the voice from the television in the room pulls my attention. The news of the death of those people is over the internet, and they are saying that they must've been attacked by wild animals since it was in the bush, but here I am in the same room with the murderer of those people. My brother killed all of them, and I don't even know what to think anymore at this moment.
"What? Are you scared? At least you should say thank you for showing up to help you. Who knows, maybe you would've been the one laying there lifeless now," He says to me with a blank expression on his face as he stands up to his feet. Yes, he's right, but that still doesn't change the fact that he killed those people. He murdered them, and the terrifying part was him sucking their blood. Who the hell is he?
"You... you... you are not Asher, are you? You... you are not my brother, are you?" My voice quiver as I fidget on the bed, hoping that the ground swallows me because I'm so scared now.
"Why are you so scared? Of course, I am your brother," He pulls the usual innocent face as he smiles at me like he used to, but I won't be fooled by his smiles because I already know who he is. There are only two definitions of this. Either he was possessed, or someone is impersonating my brother.
"Get away from me, you monster! Don't touch me," I scream at him as I move away from the bed, but my voice only bounces back at me, and I know that I'm doomed.
"You will only get yourself exhausted, Adelie. Nobody will hear you scream," The corner of his lips twitches into a smirk as he slowly reaches out for my face with his palm, and I cringe as I shut my eyes.
"Don't be scared, sweetheart... I won't harm you," He whispers as he cups my cheek in his palm, rubbing his palm gently against it, and I feel my breath hooking in my neck. Now everything is becoming clear and understandable to me. I was right all along to think that he was hypnotizing me all those time. He was really doing it. He was controlling me all this while.
"Stay away from me, Asher... Who the hell are you?" I whimper fearfully, and he rolls his eyes.
"I am Asher..."
"You are not Asher... You... you are... not Asher..." I shake my head as more tears stream down my cheeks. I wish I can disappear from here, but sadly, I can't. Will he kill me? Who the hell is he?
"Yes, I am not Asher. You are right about that. Why don't we strike a deal?" I watch as he pulls out the chair and sits confidently on it.
"Wh... what do you want?" I ask him, and he shrugs.
"It's very simple. I want your parents' lives, and I want to make you suffer for the rest of your life," His eyes suddenly darken as he stares at me with that deadly look, and I gulp down the lump that forms in my throat. "Vengeance... That is what I want," He further says, picking his words one after the other, probably to tell me how serious he is about this, who knows?
"Why?" I manage to ask, and he shrugs.
"Why?" He repeats my question before he giggles loudly as he throws his head back, and this time, I cringe when I see the long sharp fangs in his mouth. Now looking at me with his eyes as red as blood, I shiver as my forehead becomes sweaty.
"I think your dad is in the position to tell you that, Adelie," He replies to me in his cold and domineering voice.
"For now, let's pretend nothing happened," He whispers, and just like that, I feel my eyes suddenly heavy and I fall back on the bed since I can't control the full force which sleep attacks me.
I have no idea how long I'd been asleep, but I woke up to the bright sunshine which means that it is afternoon already.
"Oh my goodness, you're awake, babe? I've been here all day," I tilt my head tiredly in the direction of the voice to find Raymond looking at me worriedly while holding my hand in his.
"Are you okay? How're you feeling now?" He asks worriedly, and I smile weakly before I manage to sit up on the bed with his help.
"Yes, I'm much better. What happened? How did I end up here?" I ask him after I look around the place to find myself on the hospital bed. The last time I remember was being in the cab, and now I woke up in the hospital. What happened? "You need to get some rest first, please," He replies to me instead, and I slowly nod my head. I try to recall what happened, but my head suddenly starts hurting, and I give up.
"Where's Asher?" I ask him, and he sighs briefly.
"Your brother was mad at me that I couldn't protect you, so he left since he couldn't stand my presence," He replies to me sadly, and I sigh.
"I'm sorry about what happened... I wouldn't have left you alone to go home at that time of the night if my mom was not sick. I'm so sorry," He apologizes to me sincerely, and I slowly nod my head. The question is, what the hell happened after I left him and boarded a cab yesterday? Did I hit my head on a stone that made me forget what happened? Even if I was to lose my memory, why that part alone?
