Unlawful Affair With Asher Williams

Chapter 33

Cynthia POV

Forcing my eyes open after sleeping all night, I stare up at the ceiling as memories of yesterday night fill my heart. It has been so long since I was so happy. The look on Alex's face yesterday makes me feel satisfied, and each time I think about it feels as though I've gotten so much achievement.

"Urgh!" I groan tiredly as I sit up on the bed and run my fingers through my hair. I woke up quite late today, so I have to hurry up and get dressed so I can get to the office early enough.

With all the strength I found in me, I drag myself from the bed and walk sluggishly into the bathroom, slamming the door behind me.

'You don't mess with my woman' his words rings in my head as I stare at my reflection in the mirror, and I blush hard as I cup my cheeks in my palms, feeling on top of the world, because why not. Asher is the sweetest man I've ever come across, and I'm glad he's my boyfriend now.

"You are late, can you stop daydreaming already and get ready for work?" My subconscious mind screams at me in reminder, and I gasp as realization dawn on me that it's almost 8am.

Walking back into my room after having my bath, I proceed to get ready for work. I understand Asher won't be able to pick me up later for work, since he has to also be at the office early, so I'm just going to have to take a cab there. "And then, we're done," I giggle softly as I grab my handbag from the bed and stride out of my room, locking the door behind me.

I giggle excitedly like a girl in her teen that just had her crush confessed to her, but this feeling is more than that, so don't blame me for being like this. Standing at the roadside for about two minutes, I finally haul down a cab, and the journey to my office began.

"So sweet," I mutter and giggle occasionally as the image of Asher keeps popping up in my head. The way he was protective of me at the party made me feel so special.

"What's going on?" The loud screeching sound of the car brings me back to reality, but when I look out of the window, we are not anywhere close to the company.

"There's a heavy traffic jam ahead, so I would have to turn back from here. You may come down now, ma'am," The cabby says to me, and I scoff as my eyes narrow in shock, because why would he tell me that shit? "Are you expecting me to trek to my office? The place is still far from here," I scoff at him.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. But I'm only going to delay you if we should stay here. I need to turn back from here," He further explains, and I sigh briefly. I think I'm going to faint by the time I arrive at work on foot.

Reaching for my phone, I check the Google map, and he's right. The traffic ahead is heavy.

"Alright. Here's your money," I hand him his money after I step out of his car.

"No, it's fine miss. You don't need to pay for it," He says to me, and zooms off before I can say anything.

"What do I do now?" I whine almost in tears as I run my fingers through my hair frustratingly. There's no way I'm going to trek to the office, right? I'm going to spend about twenty minutes on the road if I want to, and you know what that means. I may not be able to do anything by the time I get to the office.

Still standing at the side of the road and wondering what I'm going to do, a bike suddenly pulls over beside me, almost crushing my legs if not that I shift back.

"Hey! Are you insane or blind? Didn't you see me here?" I yell at the bastard that's on a helmet.

"You haven't changed yet, sweetheart," That voice I will never forget even in my deep sleep. It's Nathan's, my sweet cousin.

Tilting my head to look at him, his usual smirk welcomes me as he crosses his arms on his chest.

"Nathan!" I squeak excitedly as I rush over to him and pull him into my arms, hugging him tightly like he's going to disappear if I go easy on him.

"You aren't planning to kill me, are you?" He scoffs as he pushes me off slightly, and I roll my eyes at him. He hasn't changed a bit.

"When did you come back to town?" I ask him, and he shrugs.

"Just got back yesterday night. Come on, hop in, I'll drop you off," He says as he hands me his helmet, and I roll my eyes before I take it from him.

"How did you know I'm here?" I ask as I hop on his bike.

"That's why there's something called tracker," He replies to me sarcastically as he starts the bike and zooms off.

Nathan is my late aunt's only son. Just like some other unfortunate kids, Nathan didn't have a good childhood since his useless dad abandoned him and his mom when the poor woman got pregnant. What do you expect from pregnancy out of wedlock? That's one of the disadvantages of it. According to my mom, his mom died three months after she gave birth to him, and since then, my mom has been the one taking care of him before she had me three years after.

He left the city to go find a greener pasture when he turned eighteen. It has been eleven years since I last saw my cousin, and having him back now makes me so happy. At least, I won't be so lonely again.

We arrived at the company in a flash since he sped through the road and even violated the traffic rules. I just pray they don't end up arresting him on his way back.

"Thanks for the ride, Nathan," I say to him as I hop off the bike and hand his helmet back to him.

"Yeah. I will be waiting for you at home. Come back as soon as you're done here. We have a lot of things to talk about," He winks at me, and I roll my eyes.

"I will. Bye," I wave at him before he finally zooms off.

Turning around to go inside the company, I stop on my track when I find Alex leaving his car. What the hell is he doing here?
