Chapter 27
Adelie POV
I pace restlessly in the living room. It's almost midnight, and Asher is not home yet, nor pick up my calls. I'm not worried about him, but Cynthia. I can't possibly be fine, knowing that my best friend is with my despicable brother at this hour of the night, right? What if he does something crazy to Cynthia? What if he forces himself on her? I won't ever forgive myself, knowing that I pushed him to do this, just to please my innocent friend. Slumping on the couch, I dial his number for the umpteenth time, and as expected, he didn't answer the call.
"Shit!" I curse under my breath as I scroll through my phone, and finally dial Cynthia's number. I have been scared of calling her, but I don't think I should hold back anymore. I have to make sure she's fine. Luckily, she answers the phone on the first ring.
"Hey, Adelie," Her cheerful voice sounds from the other end, and I heave a sigh of relief.
"Cynthia, you're ok? Where's Asher? I've been calling him, but he's not answering his phone," I ask her worriedly.
"Yes, I'm fine. He just dropped me off at home and left. He should be on his way home now," She replies to me, and I slowly nod my head. Now that she said that he's on his way home, I feel my nightmare haunting me again, knowing that he won't leave me the hell alone when he comes back.
"Alright. I'll call you tomorrow," I finally end the call, and I stand up to go lock myself inside my room so he won't see me when he comes.
"Were you worried about me or your friend? You thought I would hurt her?" His voice sounds behind me, and I stop abruptly on my track. I slowly turn around to see him leaning against the wall. Fuck! When did he get here? "Twenty-five missed calls... That's crazy. You must've missed me so much," He giggles as he starts walking toward me, and I step back fearfully.
"What did you do to her? What the hell did you do to Cynthia?" I yell at him as I give him a disgusting look, but he only shrugs.
"Nothing... I only told your desperate friend what she's about to sign up for, and she agreed to still be my girlfriend. She's such a sweetheart," He stops in front of me and tucks his hands inside his pockets. "Asher..."
"I might as well be having a sex partner in the nearest future. She has a perfect body, and I'm sure she will warm my bed well," The corner of his lips tugs up into a smirk, and I gulp down nothing nervously. "Don't do anything stupid, Asher. You wouldn't want to get on my bad side, do you? Don't hurt Cynthia..."
"I only did what you want, sweetheart... You asked me to date your friend, and I just asked her out, and she agreed to date me," He shrugs, and I bite my bottom lip.
"You don't have to feel guilty, sweetheart. I already told her that I don't love her. You are the only one on my mind, Adelie. I would never share your love with any other woman," He pats my shoulder, and I flinch. "See you tomorrow," He finally heads toward the staircase and climbs it.
"Pheeeew!" I heave a sigh of relief as I slump on the couch and shut my eyes tightly. I finally leave to sleep in my room.
My sleep was sound and peaceful since I locked my door tightly.
My blaring alarm pulls me out of my deep slumber, and I snooze it for twenty minutes.
A few minutes later, I finally wake up and head to the kitchen to do the dishes. It's Saturday today, and Raymond will pick me up soon to go see his mom.
After doing the dishes, I walk back into the living room, expecting to see Asher there, but he's nowhere around. He always wakes up before me, no matter how early I am to wake up.
"Where's he?" I ask no one and shrug before I head upstairs.
"Asher... Asher... Are you there?" I knock on his door a couple of times but got no answer, and just when I'm about to head back to my room because I can't risk going in there, my phone suddenly starts to ring. It's Asher.

"Hey, sis. I went out early today to take care of something. I will be coming home late," He says to me.
"Ok," The call drops dead after I reply to him. Where has he been going lately? Asher is not someone that likes going out often, and to think that he has been going out lately, it's somehow suspicious. Pushing all the thoughts to the back of my mind, I walk into my room and strip out of my clothes before I hit the bathroom.
It takes me about an hour and a half to get ready, and just when I rounded up everything, Raymond's call came in.
"I'm waiting for you outside, babe," His sweet voice sounds through the phone as soon as I answer the call.
"Alright. I'd be there in a minute," I reply to him before the call drops dead.
Glancing at my reflection in the mirror one more time, I finally stride out of the room, and it only takes me five minutes to join him outside the gate where he's waiting for me.
"You look gorgeous as always, sweetheart," He gushes over my look with admiration in his eyes as he stares at me.
"Thank you," I blush hard.
He finally pulls the door open for me, and I hop in the car.
"Are you okay?" He asks me a few minutes later as he drives us down the road.
"Hmm," I nod my head and smile at him, which only lasts for seconds and disappears immediately. I'm nervous and thinking of many things. I know that I'm only going to say hi to his mom because she was sick, but I'm also nervous. What if she doesn't like me? What if she thinks that I'm not good for her son? And I'm also scared about Asher. He would go to any length to ruin me, what if he decides to show up there and starts claiming me?

"You don't have to be nervous, ok?" He holds my hand and assures me, making me feel a bit relaxed.
"Hmm," I nod my head.
The rest of the drive to our destination wasn't boring, since he didn't allow me to be lost in thoughts again, with his talks and jokes. In all these years that I have spent working with him, I never thought he would be this lively. "We've arrived," He announces as he pulls over, and I look out through the window to find us in the compound of a magnificent building.
"Ray..." I call his attention just when he's about to step out of the car, and he stops to look at me.
"You're ok, babe?" He asks me.
"I'm scared... What if your mom or sister doesn't like me?" I ask him, and he chuckles softly.
"I love you, sweetheart, and that is all that matters," He cups my cheeks in his palms and stares into my eyes with an assuring look on. He makes me feel comfortable and safe around him, he makes me feel like no harm can come to me whenever I'm around him, and even when I'm not, and that is one of the reasons I keep falling for him every day.
"But..."
"And don't worry, my mom and sister will love my adorable woman. You have the charm to win anyone's heart at first sight, so I'm not worried about that," He assures me, then leans forward and plants a kiss on my forehead. "Now, smile for me, babe," He hushes, and I giggle softly because of the way he pouts his lips.
"That's my baby girl," He winks at me before he alights from the car, and I do the same thing. I just hope and pray that this turns out well later...
