Chapter 14.2
Asema
Wolf held me till he had to leave and meet up with Brock about something. Urging me to go check out the solarium and maybe lose my thoughts staring out at the ocean.
So here I was watching the water sparkling against the sun above with only a few clouds in the distance fluffy as cotton candy. I had curled up in one of the couches surrounded by plants giving a sense of back to land type of idea.
The window I stared out of was practically a glass roof with half glass wall with the rest being brick. I could see why Wolf suggested I come here, it was perfect to escape the world that bustled on the streets.
I still couldn’t understand what went over me, a second I wanted to throw questions at Madam next I couldn’t even be near her. Though I just wanted to talk with Wolf that ended up with my spilling out my feelings. That he did try to understand. But reliving those memories I even shudder at the feeling despite the warmth in this room.
But all that was erased when I heard a familiar high pitch voice ring through the house.
“Asema, are you here?”
I looked to the entrance that leads to the kitchen leaning over seeing if my ear were deceiving me.
“I am in the plant room” I answered with a calm voice, my neck leaning just to see my confirmation as a brunette with stylish clothing came into view with her red eyes beaming, as she was happy to see me.
I found myself standing, and she stopped just before the entrance. We were both surprised by each other as if it had been ages.
I don’t know what I expected, nothing as the next second she lunged herself at me wrapping me into a bear hug. I returned the same hug holding onto her.
“I am so sorry this all happened to you.” She whispered in my ear.
I didn’t say anything back but slowly we uncoiled from each other taking in one another presence. That soon led to sitting across from one another on the couch that faced the ocean window.
“What can I do to help?” she asked, probably wanting to make up for a mess that her brother caused.
“I don’t know…” I shrug my shoulders.
She pursues her lips together and moved her attention to the ocean of sparkling water gazing at it beauty. “I actually may have an idea…. How much have you seen of Pacific Rim?” snapping her attention back to me.
Again, I shrug, “Not much just landscape and roof tops from above, it is giving me the vibes of a New York feeling to old types of villages in western Europe.”
Emily shoots off the couch grabs my hand, “Great, then I shall give you a tour.”
I gave her an odd look. How did she know the city?
“I have been living here since your disappearance” she answers my silent question.
There was more to it but I didn’t push. I just allowed her to drag me upstairs and find ‘suitable’ clothing for this type of weather.
Moments later we out the door taking a whiff of blasting air that shot through the streets tunnel for a second and down the street we want.
“We are going to the south harbour” Emily tells me.
I look around already analyzing the buildings that have that brick city feel to them as for some there felt like a hidden glass feel with others.
“Wait south harbour?” as the words now processed through my head.
Emily no longer dragging me but walked beside me, we passed by a few who barely even glanced at us. I felt some wind become stronger.
“Yeah, there is South, East, North, and West harbours, all acquired to each section of the city.” She points as we come to a opening. “You live closer to the south harbour.”
Shock was more like the emotion I felt as we were hit again by gust of wind. In the distance was massive port harbouring boats of all sizes while other sections had railing for you to lean over and watch the water below. It seems like quite a bit of people were here but mainly people passing by or getting to their own ships.
“Welcome to your first stop of touring Pacific Rim” Emily alinked her arm into mine and we began walking.
Some of the tour was on foot as Emily guided me through some streets that somehow mended together even though every section was completely different. It was is you were living in in sci-fi world to next your back in the medieval realm of reniassance.
Emily was telling me that Pacific Rim is a city for those want to hide or want to feel safe. As Madam said earlier, because of how the magic works here it gives off multiple signals of past, present and future leading others to think it doesn’t exist. She had pointed to a tower in the middle of the city when riding a shuttle over to the west harbour looked like a small cube, giving me a sense how big this city actually was.
“That is the main portal for the whole city, it is rarely used but it’s the only way to get to the city and leave… well aside from boats and special permission to portal somewhere else.”
I gaze at the tower watching a blue light of water flicker but soon it was gone.
We continued our touring around. Though there was not much with east section as Emily informed me, that north west are somewhat connected together because of the campus section along with the Academy for Warriors.
“Wait, why do the warriors only train here for the academy.” I piped up as we walked through trees of buildings filled with students and dorms.
“They don’t, there are multiple countries that have Warriors of Kadea training academy. This city was lucky enough to have one.”
Oh.
“This city is like a country of itself, the sections are different cities with shuttles being trains of transport. Everything clustered together yet there is space” Emily informs me and make our way to the north side.
She showed me the Warriors academy that basically looked like a steel and glass made building place almost in the center of the north section. The building reminded me of stadiums that held sports for show.
We continued on as I stared at it with wonder.
The rest of the tour was just passing by residences with cafes and shops. There it looked more of glass and steel as if you stepped into the future that had does not exist yet. Completely different from east harbour where you felt you were in western Europe with a hint of country style buildings.
Eventually we made our way back to Madam residence when I felt I needed to ask question that I have been holding off.
I open my mouth but stop and skin turns to ice as I saw him walking towards me. I swallowed and saw he was coming closer just enough in arms reach when he passes by me and I act in defense. Only to be stopped by Emily grabbing me and dragging me away from the man who was not Kieran. But looked at me with wide eyes. Probably wondering as to what just happened.
I froze but Emily dragged me away enough that my feet were working. We stopped at alleyway inserting ourselves inside to not stop the flow of pedestrian traffic.
“You, okay?” She asked.
I shook myself, “I don’t know what came over me but I am sorry…”
She stayed silent, while I took a deep breath closed my eyes and nodded, “Okay lets go..”
She hesitated but eventually led me to our original path where the sun was now starting to really shine down on us beating a heat onto our skin.
“I wanted to ask” I eventually got the words out, “I know you were hiding your relationship with Damon, but where is he?”
This brought Emily down and sighed as if she was in pain. “Before Kieran took you, he told my parents about Damon and I, which led to our guards arresting him and taking him in for questioning.” She just stared at the stone concrete ground as we walked while I at times glanced at her.
“As of right now, they are afraid that Kieran will use me against you and they are afraid of Damon being in contact with me….so they sent me here” she swung her arms open to showcase the streets before us as if she was gesturing to the entire island.
“I am so sorry… where you living now?”
She meets my eyes, “I am your neighbour”
I returned the smile, and stop us, she was about to protest when I gave her a hug. Now being an inconvenience for pedestrians. As a few grumbles went by.
After another hour of tiredness of touring and walking we reach Madam residence and made ourselves comfy in the plant room in a way we could isolate ourselves from the city.
“I wanted to talk with you about something” I know was pushing but I had to know. “What do you truly know about Kieran?”
She tilted her head to the side giving me a curious look to why I asked that.
“He manipulates, he not good with family and he somewhat destroyed my life… but there also something else to him that I can’t quite put”
I swallowed shifting in my seating, “Do you believe he may have something in him that destroys goodness?”
She stayed silent wondering probably where I was going with this. The sky was beginning to darken, evening was approaching.
“Why ask that?”
I breathed.
“What if I told you I may have found out something that may or may not be true.”
“Depends where your sources are from.” She states.
Now or never, I told myself. “What if I told you that Kieran states that he is the darkness, that actual darkness.”
There she sat staring at me as if I didn’t say anything at all, like the words never affected her. Felt as if she knew this deep down but didn’t want to admit it.
“Those words don’t surprise me, as if makes sense of who he is and why he gives off this sensation of fear or hollowness… I can never truly describe it.”
Never truly describe a feeling of fear, or evil that dwells and cannot stop it as if the was no end to it.
