Under the Heiress' Facade

Chapter 670

Chapter 670

It was a long and sleepless night for Rhett, Linda, and Frederick.

Rhett was busy facing Chad's wrath, whereas Linda was occupied with trying to save their reputation and

explaining the situation to the Caddels. Meanwhile, Frederick was grounded and couldn't leave his house for the next few days.

At the Chime residence, Priscilla beamed happily. She never thought that Linda would be of so much help. The gossip about Frederick was like dropping a bomb. It helped to take away most of the people's attention so that the gossip about the Chime family would dwindle.

Over at the amusement park, Bernard watched Hera's phone exit the coding page. He then glanced at the people around them who were indulging themselves in gossip.

"You found out Frederick's gay just like that?" Bernard asked, even though it sounded more like a statement. "Yep." Hera pocketed her phone and added, "There's a lesson to be learned from this."

Bernard went along with the flow by saying, "You mean to say that if a firewall isn't strong enough, the person's information would be leaked. Am I right?"

Hera fell silent. It was supposed to be, "People shouldn't store private photos and videos on their phones."

The two of them walked as they spoke, and they soon reached the Ferris wheel. A pod slowly came to a halt in front of them.

The staff member opened the door of the pod. Inside, there was a small square table with a candlelight dinner. Although the pod wasn't big, it had everything they needed.

Bernard held Hera's hand and led her into the pod. When the door was closed, the noise outside faded. They could finally enjoy their time together.

After wiping his hands with some wet wipes, Bernard poured some juice into the wine glass in front of Hera. He then poured himself some champagne.

"Thank you for spending my birthday with me, sweetie," he said, his voice soft and pleasing to the ears.

"Happy birthday, Bernard," Hera chirped in return.

Raising their drinks, they clinked their glasses as the Ferris wheel started to make its steady ascent.

When their pod reached the highest point of the Ferris wheel, it stopped as if it was magically frozen.

Looking out the glass panes, the moon and the stars adorned the sky, seemingly just within reach. And when they glanced down, they could see the city below illuminated by the dazzling lights of the streets and buildings.

"Let's dig in. I don't want you to go hungry," said Bernard, setting down his glass.

"Okay." Hera wiped her hands like he did and removed the lid from the food containers.

The container didn't contain the beef steak she thought it would. Instead, an exquisite blue diamond ring sat in the container.

Taken by surprise, her heart skipped a beat and started pounding in her chest. She raised her eyes to look at Bernard.

A soft smile hung on his lips, which was as gentle as the look in his eyes as he gazed upon her. "Sweetie, do you know? You were the only source of light for me in the loneliest and darkest of nights back then.

Ever since the Killian family discovered him and his mother, Bernard's life lost all its color. His mother only found out that Albert had a family when Chad came to them.

Chad forced her to leave Albert, and she did everything she could to make sure that Bernard could live. Eventually, she passed away, and Bernard was taken to the Killian residence.

There, he led a tough and miserable life. Bernard was ostracized by everyone else in the family except for Albert himself. The Killians poisoned and beat him up. They slandered him, locked him up, and even threatened him just so he would leave the Killian residence.

To survive, Bernard had to resist and hurt others in the process. Ever since then, a seed of evil sprouted in his heart. It was dark, malicious, and rash. After that, everyone in the Killian family feared him.

No one dared to get close to him, and they isolated him. At that time, only Lucius and Daphne accepted him with open arms.

They were Bernard's only source of warmth at the Killian residence. Not long after that, Lucius and Daphne had their very own child, and they shifted their focus to their baby. Bernard returned to being alone after that.

Back then, he even started wondering whether Lucius and Daphne would direct their attention back at him if the baby didn't exist.

In fact, Bernard was on the verge of carrying out his plan to get rid of the baby when just the two of them were in the baby's room. But then, the baby reached up with her tiny hands to grab his hand that hovered above her head, ready to suffocate her with a pillow, and she started giggling.
