Uncovering My Wife's Secrets

Chapter 16

Chapter 16 Why Don’t We Try Dating?
After leaving the hotel, Julian grumbled, “Too busy to go to the movies with me, but free
enough to meet a scumbag?”
Annalise tried to explain, saying, “No, it’s not like that. I’m here to accompany Samantha
for her blind date...” The moment she lifted her head, she caught sight of Julian’s look
of distrust.
He fixed his eyes on her as if he was watching her spin her web of lies.
Unable to withstand the pressure from his stare, Annalise continued, “It’s true. Let me
show you our chat history.”
Fishing out her phone, she quickly scrolled through the text but realized their chat
history was gone after she blocked Samantha.
Although she could easily employ her hacking skills to recover their chat history, it was
overkill to be utilizing them for such a trivial matter.
Therefore, she admitted, “I’ve blocked Samantha just now, so our chat history is gone.”
Julian remained silent and gazed at Annalise.
Annalise stressed, “It’s true!”
“I’d like to watch a movie. You come with me!”
Annalise sighed and agreed, “Fine. Let’s go, then.”
It was to thank him for defending her dignity, although she could have done it herself.
Smiling faintly, Julian reached out his hand and stroked Annalise’s head.
Warmth welled up in Annalise’s heart by such a sweet act from Julian.
After they had arrived at the movie theater, Julian told Annalise to wait for him. He then
booked an entire hall and bought some popcorn, fried chicken, and Coke.
Once he was done, both of them entered the screening hall together.
Having observed Julian’s diligence in buttering her up for the past two days, Annalise
presumed that he would select a romantic film. It completely caught her by surprise that
he would pick a cartoon, which was her favorite.
This was because she was sent to her relative’s house in the countryside by her uncle
when she was six. Growing up in an environment where she was constantly scolded
and mistreated by her relatives, she didn’t even get to have a proper meal sometimes,
let alone enjoy the luxury of watching television.

Only when she met her mentors by chance did her quality of life improve.
However, with such burdening missions assigned by her mentors, she was too busy for
television.
It was indeed true that when one reached adulthood, they would subconsciously try
making up for things. they had missed out on during their childhood.
Therefore, among the various genres of shows, she loved cartoons the most.
In her opinion, romantic films were fine during the lovey-dovey scenes, but her heart
would clench at those heartbreaking scenes.
Thriller films were way too exhilarating for her heart to bear.
Suspense films were mind-twisting, while the stunts in action movies made her feel
dizzy. Therefore,
cartoons were the best as they did not contain any of the complications in real life.
Engrossed in the cartoon, Annalise was watching it with relish while the corners of her
lips curled up with her eyes sparkling.
Julian could not help smiling at the sight of Annalise.
While she enjoyed the film, he was gazing at her while feeding her snacks from time to
time.
Annalise would open her mouth to eat the popcorn that Julian fed her.
When the movie ended, she asked in dissatisfaction, “That’s all?”
“We’d continue tomorrow night!” Grinning, Julian continued feeding Annalise popcorn.
Embarrassed, Annalise stretched out her hand and demanded, “I’ll do it myself!”
Julian laughed. “You’ve already eaten half the bucket of popcorn.”
Annalise suddenly recalled that she was being fed while enjoying the movie just now.
Having her full attention on the film, she thought it was Madeline who had been feeding
her.
She had grown accustomed to it as Madeline had always fed her food while they
watched movies together occasionally. The latter would always mention that she
wanted Annalise to grow healthy and chubby.
“Let’s go.” Julian stretched his hand out to Annalise..
Reluctant to give him her hand, Annalise hesitated briefly.
Julian’s gaze darkened as he suggested, “I’ve not been in love before, and you happen
to be single as well. Why don’t we try dating? It might work out. If it indeed works out,

then we don’t have to file for divorce anymore. Well, everyone is trying to find the right
one among millions of people for themselves in life. Of course, I’ll respect your decision.
Once we hit the three-month mark, we shall divorce if you still find me unsuitable. Come
on!”
Annalise met Julian’s brooding eyes and placed her hand in his after some slight
hesitation..
She mused to herself, “Fine. It’s not like it’d do me any harm by holding his hand. I shall
just cooperate with him. It doesn’t matter anyway, since three months will fly by quickly.
It took me more than three months to move on from Benjamin, so it’s impossible for me
to fall in love with a different man.”
However, she liked what Julian just said, where he mentioned that everyone was trying
to find the right one among millions of people for themselves in life.
Meanwhile, after Julian had taken Annalise away, Benjamin was boiling with rage at the
Moon Hall of Hamilton Hotel.
He began hurling things on the ground, smashing the red wine and cutlery prepared for
the candlelight dinner, and kicking the snow-making machine. He then fumed, “Damn it!
This is ridiculous!”
He had never experienced such humiliation in the past 25 years of his life.
Samantha advised, “Benjamin, don’t be upset about it. Anna is so deeply in love with
you. There’s no way she’s someone’s wife. She must have found a stranger to put on
an act to infuriate you. Isn’t there a charity gala in a few days? I’m sure she’d be
touched if you buy something at the auction as a gift for her.”
Upon hearing that, a glint flashed across Benjamin’s eyes.
In the meantime, Abigail changed the mealtime to evening.
She planned on seducing Alexander and acting coquettishly to invite the Parks brothers
to the Barton residence. Moreover, she would make sure Alexander brought Julian with
him. That way, she would have the opportunity to cement her relationship with Julian.
When Abigail arrived at the restaurant, Alexander was already there, waving at her.
Clad in a sky-blue maxi dress, Abigail strode toward Alexander in her high heels.
She had designed the outfit herself, where the slim fit accentuated her alluring figure.
When she noticed that Alexander was gawking at her appearance, satisfaction grew in
her.

Abigail then did her usual trick. “Mr. Alexander, I’m sorry for being late.”
“No worries. You’re punctual, and I’ve only arrived not long ago.”
Grinning, Alexander gazed at Abigail as he thought, “Abigail dresses so well. Just the
way she dresses alone is way better than Annalise. In Jadeborough, Annalise is going
to become a laughingstock.”
Abigail inquired, “Mr. Alexander, how long will you guys be staying at Horington?”
“I’m not sure about that. Abigail, are we friends?” Alexander asked suddenly.
“Of course we are.”
“Then stop calling me Mr. Alexander. It sounds strange. Just call me Alexander.”
Abigail responded gracefully, “My pleasure. Alexander, is there a reason why you’ve
asked to meet me today? Feel free to speak your mind.”
With that, Alexander had a better impression of Abigail.
However, he did not have a crush on her. He simply thought that those were all her
merits, and he believed that the more merits she had, the better chance she would have
of defeating Annalise.
Letting out a laugh, Alexander added, “There’s indeed something special. But I shall
keep you in suspense for now; I’ll share it with you once we’re done eating.”
Well aware of how realistic Abigail was, he must try to display his status in the Parks
family discreetly in order to leave a good impression on her before he revealed his plan.
Abigail answered with a smile, “What is it? You’re making me curious by saying that.”
In fact, she was not in a rush at all. She was planning to get along with Alexander and
invite him and hist brother to the Barton residence after they were done eating. After
that, she would act flirtatiously while. emphasizing that they must all be there.
“Let’s dig in. The food shall be served soon.” The corners of Alexander’s lips curled up.
“Sure.”
They ate while having a casual chat.
Alexander shared with Abigail that he held his grandpa in high regard and that his
grandpa was also fond of him.
Upon learning that Alexander’s grandpa was fond of him, Abigail became interested.
Previously, she had heard that Alexander was favored in the Parks family, so she
leaned forward, pretending like she was interested in listening to him..
Alexander then divulged that his grandpa had paved the path for him by making him

start work from the bottom, so everyone would acknowledge his capability.
However, he was currently the general manager of a subsidiary company owned by
Parks Group.
Abigail could not refrain from asking. “Then what about your brother, Julian?”
