Uncovering My Wife's Secrets (Annalise and Julian)

Chapter 12

Chapter 12 Thank Goodness You're All Right

Samuel froze with the pen in his hand. A large spurt of ink spread on the paper, ruining his fine calligraphy. His face darkened as he lowered his pen. "I already said that she had a questionable character. She can't marry into our family."

"But weren't you continuously praising her during the meal earlier?" Alexander refuted.

"Is there anything wrong with me praising someone who won't have any relations with us in the future? Why would there be a need for me to offend her?" Samuel explained his reason for praising Abigail. "Are you prejudiced against her just because she wasn't willing to marry Julian?" Alexander questioned. "She stole Annalise's boyfriend!"

"Well, didn't Annalise steal her fiancé as well? Then can't I say that Annalise also has questionable morals?" Alexander rebutted, unwilling to back down.

"She lacks decency. Before she got married, she-"

Alexander interrupted, "Grandpa, it's normal for people to live together before marriage nowadays. You can't keep using old-fashioned perspectives to restrict young people like us." At this, Samuel shot Alexander a glare.

"Grandpa, I've never begged you for anything in my life. I hope that you will allow me to make my own decision on this. If I'm not happy in the future, I definitely won't blame you. I'll bear all consequences for my decision. If my life turns out to be blissful, I'll enjoy the happiness of my marriage. If it only ends bitterly, I'll also bear the consequences. Grandpa, I hope that you can respect my decision on this. Please!" Alexander looked straight into Samuel's eyes and pleaded with him.

He and Julian were brothers from different mothers. Julian was 26, and Alexander was 25.

Julian was a legitimate son of the Parks family. Since childhood, he had always been well respected and admired.

On the other hand, Alexander was an illegitimate child. He had to conceal his identity and was disrespected since childhood. Only when he turned seven did they finally bring him into the Parks family. The reason for that was that Julian's mother had passed away.

Otherwise, he might never have the chance to return to the Parks family in his entire life. After returning to the Parks family, his cousins insulted him and called him a bastard child. He hid in a corner and quivered in fear, and he told his mother that he didn't like his new home.

His mother simply told him that the new house was huge, and they would get many things that they didn't have before.

However, Alexander didn't want all those things. He missed their small house, and he hated the new mansion that was always full of insults.

As he grew older, he gradually got used to life as a young master in a prominent family.

Soon, he came to realize that money was everything.

Before he returned to the Parks family, the school he attended was shabby. Besides that, the teachers were also extremely rude to him after knowing about his poor background and how he didn't have a father After he returned to the Parks family, he attended a prestigious school and learned about everything posh. When Tony and Samuel noticed his effort, their attitude toward him improved.

Under Samuel's protection, his cousins didn't dare to insult him anymore.

When he turned 18, he entered the Parks Group and worked his way up from the bottom.

His superior capabilities won him the support of many members of the Parks family.

Now, he had already gathered a large number of supporters within the Parks family.

Although Samuel indeed favored Julian over him, Alexander believed that as long as he did his best and worked hard, he might still have the chance to inherit the Parks Group in the future. Marrying Abigail was also a part of his plan.

If Julian married the daughter of a prestigious family in Jadeborough, Alexander would have to worry about Julian consolidating his power and status with his marriage.

However, Julian only married an incompetent girl who grew up in the countryside. Thus, all Alexander had to do was simply marry Abigail. Abigail would be his trump card to defeat his elder brother. To him, it was most satisfying to see two sisters trying to crush each other. This was also the easiest way for him to earn even more supporters.

"Grandpa!" Seeing how Samuel didn't respond for a long while, Alexander pleaded with him again.. "Alexander, marriage isn't child's play. You shouldn't act rashly," Samuel lectured him solemnly. Of course, Samuel was well aware that Alexander just wanted to prove his worth.

Nonetheless, the last thing that he wanted to see was the two brothers competing against each other.

Thus, he constantly tried to resolve some of the conflicts that existed between the two of them.

However, it seemed as if these conflicts were natural, and there was nothing that he could do to neutralize them.

"Grandpa, I really like Abigail!" Alexander exclaimed.

"Alexander, I just want you to be happy," Samuel responded.

"If I marry Abigail, I'm sure that I'll be happy," Alexander insisted.

"Alexander, you're already 25 this year. You should take charge of your own marriage. I'm old, and I can't control this anymore." Samuel heaved a long sigh.

Elders should let the young decide for themselves. However, elders also wanted their descendants to lead blissful lives.

In fact, there had been an old rule in the Parks family which stated that illegitimate children were not allowed to be part of the clan.

However, Samuel couldn't bring himself to rule Alexander out when he saw how scrawny and weak the boy was back then.

The child was innocent.

The ones in the wrong were adults who couldn't stay faithful.

"Thank you, Grandpa!" Upon obtaining Samuel's approval, Alexander was delighted and thanked him. immediately.

Meanwhile, the streets were illuminated by neon lights outside,

Julian walked along the streets with Annalise.

The two of them strolled along the pavement by the hotel side by side and chatted along the way.

Annalise handed the bracelet and bank card over to Julian and said, "You can have these back." "You can hold onto them first," Julian replied.

"They're too valuable. If they end up being destroyed, I won't be able to compensate for them."

"You don't have to compensate for them." Julian chuckled.

Seeing how warmly Julian was smiling, Annalise was also influenced by his joy. "You sure are generous. Then can I sell them as well?" she asked jokingly. "Of course. You can do whatever you like with your gifts."

"Are you sure that you won't regret your words?" Annalise asked with a smile.

"Yeah." Julian grinned as he raised his brow at her.

"Watch out!"

All of a sudden, a motorcycle zoomed past Annalise. Julian instantly reached out and pulled Annalise toward

himself.

Due to the motion, the bracelet flew from Annalise's hands.

Annalise felt as if her heart was going to leap out of her throat in fear. She lunged forward to catch the bracelet.

At the same time, Julian also lunged forward with Annalise.

In the end, Julian fell to the ground. Annalise fell on top of him and caught the bracelet.

Julian, who lay on the ground beneath Annalise, turned his head sideways and joked, "Quick reaction you have there."

Clutching onto the bracelet, Annalise still felt her heart palpitating from the shock.

She thought she was for sure going to lose the bracelet.

That bracelet was priceless.

Although she would be able to compensate for it in cash, she couldn't compensate for the commemorative significance that it held. "How long do you intend to lie on me? The ground is hurting my back," Julian teased.

"Um..." Annalise lowered her head and saw the intimate position that they were in. Her ears turned red and she stood up awkwardly. "Thank god the bracelet isn't broken."

On the other hand, Julian said, "Thank goodness you're all right."

Although it was a simple sentence, it was enough to make Annalise's heart flutter.

She couldn't believe that he would say that he was relieved that she was all right.

To an extent, the thing that he rushed to protect wasn't the bracelet, but it was her instead.

After Annalise had been in a relationship with Benjamin for a year, he ended up cheating on her.

But now, she had only known Julian for two days, and he was already willing to give up his family's heirloom bracelet for her.

They were both men, but there was such a stark difference between them.

This left Annalise slightly stunned.

Julian gazed at Annalise and looked at her lips, which were slightly parted. He suddenly leaned in.
