Chapter 10 Malicious Health Tonics
Libby and Nolan exchanged a glance. They wondered secretly what made Miss Kara hate Mr. James so much. She slapped Mr. James so hard that his face was already swollen.
Kara felt a burning sensation in her hand, and she thought she was still dreaming. She frowned and reached out to touch his handsome face.
The warmth was too real. She then cast her eyes on his lips, as well as a bite mark left by her there.
She felt as if her eyes were stung. She shook off his face and sat up defensively.
"I'm... I'm so sorry! I... I didn't mean it."
Hearing her hoarse voice, even if James wanted to vent his anger, he had already cooled down when he saw the frightened look on her face.
The anger in his brown eyes had gradually disappeared, but his voice was still cold and sullen.
Only then did Kara realize that there were several people standing in her room. There was also a stranger with a medical kit.
"Are you feeling better now?"
Hearing James ask the question softly, she stared at him blankly still in shock.
It took her a while to feel that she was dizzy and that she might be sick.
"I feel dizzy."
Thinking of that she had slapped Uncle James in front of so many people, she was so embarrassed that she slid her little head under the blanket.
Seeing that her fair little face was still pink, James turned to look at Will. Will had no choice but to step forward to take her temperature. Seeing that the data of her body were much better than before, he followed Nolan out.
"I have cooked you some porridge. I will bring it to you after you take some medicine."
Looking at Kara, Libby felt sorry for her. She did not see her get up until quite late in the morning, so she knocked on the door, only to find that there was no response. It was not until then did she panic. As she saw the girl lying in bed whose face was pale, she was so scared that she almost knelt down on her knees.
She hurriedly called Mr. James and asked Will to come to save Kara.
Seeing Nolan and the doctor leaving the room, Libby did not dare to stay any longer. She also turned around to go downstairs.
There were only two people left in the room. Kara got out of from under her blanket and saw James standing beside the bed, uprightly, like a pine tree.
"Uncle James, I'm sorry. I just had a nightmare."
James looked at her in surprise. When she slapped him, he thought that she was taking revenge for what he had done yesterday, so he suppressed his anger.
Hearing her explanation, he finally found out that it was because she had had a nightmare.
Did she have nightmares frequently and have difficulty in waking up from her dreams?
"About what happened yesterday..."
"I've already forgotten about it," Kara interrupted him, wishing that he would not mention the incident that panicked her.
James frowned, "Take some rest."
Seeing the way he walked steadily, Kara bit her lower lip and let out a deep breath.
Although she had never been with a man, she knew he was in lust. He was obviously out of his mind yesterday. He had told her to get out, and it was her fault that she didn't realize what was going on then. The thing that he had done to her ... wasn't entirely his fault. Anyway, she was also to blame for that.
Soon Libby brought a bowl of porridge to her. She had some porridge and felt much better. She lay down and fell asleep again after a while.
After Libby told James that the girl was asleep again, he asked Will to tell him about her health condition.
Will clicked his tongue and said, "I used to wonder why you've never had a woman. Turned out that they were all not your cup of tea. This girl is indeed beautiful, but she is quite weak, if you want to something together with her."
Will detoxified James yesterday and was called to see the girl this morning in a hurry. He knew what had happened when he saw the bruise at the corner of the girl's lips.
He tried his best to stifle a laugh when he looked at the mark on James' cheek.
James was being impatient, "Cut the crap. Is she well enough now?"
Seeing James' sullen look, Will did not dare to make fun of him. He cleared his throat and spoke seriously.
"She is weaker than a normal girl. She needs a lot of care. She was brought up healthily as a child, but her body has been getting weaker and weaker these past few months. If that continues, she really won't be able to live to eighteen."
The girl would turn eighteen in just three months. She probably couldn't live for that long. It showed how sick she was.
Thinking of her pale little face, James' voice became even colder.
"If we begin to nurse her body now, how long will it take for her to be back to health?"
"It's hard to say. Her immunity has weakened greatly recently. I suspect that someone has poisoned her." Looking at the test report in his hand, Will said thoughtfully.
"Poison?"
"I've seen this before. The girl's immunity system is already weak. Health tonics may be helpful to healthy people. But to her, strong health tonics were like poison. If she had taken more, she might not have made it this time."
Seeing James' long face, Will could not help telling him more details because this was the first time he saw that James cared so much about a girl.
"People who have tried to harm her in this secret way definitely know her physical condition very well. She wouldn't die immediately when she took the tonics at the beginning, but her health would deteriorate. Once there were some external stimuli, her life would probably be on the line."☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
