Chapter 451
Zachary was careful with his words, referring to her only as a "biological grandmother" instead of elaborating on it.
Yvette realized that he must have learned about Yara online. Before she could figure out what to say, Zachary continued, "Mom, since she isn't kind to you, I won't think of her as family. If she dares to bully you, just tell me, and I'll protect you." Seeing Zachary's serious expression on the video call, Yvette felt genuinely comforted.
"Don't worry. I can protect myself. I won't let anyone bully me." Yvette reassured him, then reminded him, saying, "For the time being, make sure you stay with Kiki and don't cause her any trouble." Overhearing this, Kiki blushed in embarrassment.
To be honest, she was the one who was causing trouble for Zachary. If it hadn't been for him, she wouldn't even know how to answer the elders' questions. Even Michael treated her kindly only because of Zachary. "Don't worry. Zachary is more responsible than most adults," Kiki replied.
She was about to say more when there was a knock on the door. So, she had to tell Zachary to hang up the call.
When she opened the door, she found Tristan standing there, looking exhausted in his white lab coat. It was clear he had just come back from the hospital.
"What's up?" Kiki thought it must be urgent, seeing that he hadn't even had time to change his clothes.
Tristan then said, "Grandpa wants me to take you to get our wedding photos taken."
"But we're not even engaged yet. Why are we taking wedding photos so soon?" Kiki didn't want to go at all. She had thought that the engagement and wedding would take at least half a year, but now it seemed that wasn't the case.
"It will take over half a month to get the photos taken and the dress custom-made. Grandpa says it's best to have everything done before the New Year," Tristan replied, his narrow eyes full of impatience.
As he stared at Kiki's youthful face, he still couldn't believe she was about to become his wife. He couldn't understand what Archibald saw in her.
With the New Year just a little over two weeks away, Kiki did the math and started to panic. "How about after the New Year? It's so cold right now."
"No way." After Tristan refused, he glanced at the child inside the room. "Hey, kid, want to come with us?"
Zachary's dark eyes were filled with disdain. "No."
Even though he'd been told Zachary wasn't his kid, Tristan, as a doctor, couldn't help but see him as such. Zachary's disdain left Tristan feeling a strange sense of defeat.
Tristan rubbed his nose, puzzled.
Could this kid really be his? Why did
he feel an instinctual fear when facing him? The only other person who had ever made him feel this
way was Xavier.
"
Not wanting to dwell on it, he urged Kiki, "No need to get changed. Let's go." Kiki had no choice but to remind Zachary, "Zac, call me if you need anything." "Okay."
Zachary watched them leave. As soon as they were gone, he immediately sat in front of the computer and started searching for dirt on Yara. Oddly enough, despite her age, there wasn't much bad press about her online.
Zachary searched for a long time but only found some trivial issues.
"My lovely great-grandson, what are you doing? It's almost time to get ready for school." Archibald, having come upstairs quietly, spoke in a gentle tone. Zachary quickly closed the computer and turned to Archibald. "Okay."
Before, Zachary used to be picked up from kindergarten in an ordinary car. Now, as the great-grandson of the Shaw family, the car escorting him was more grandiose than a wedding procession.
Even Malcolm had never had such a spectacle. After all, he wasn't Xavier's son.
Now that Zachary had been recognized as Tristan's son, as the future heir of the Shaw family, it was only expected that his status was different.
