Chapter 449
Lawrence and Yara had come today specifically to meet with Archibald to discuss a piece of land in downtown Tirion.
The Yandell family had recently allied with the Lane family. Since the latter had a strong relationship with the Shaw family, Lawrence and Yara thought they could easily secure the deal by leveraging their connection with the Lanes. However, Yara hadn't anticipated to encounter something so unexpected that day.
As they entered the living room, Yara's eyes immediately fell on Zachary. At first, he seemed familiar, but she couldn't place him. After all, she had only briefly met Noah before. Archibald sipped his tea and didn't stand to greet them. Being a seasoned professional in the business world, he had looked into Lawrence and Yara.
Their methods were known to be extremely unsavory. If not for Zoey being engaged to Jeremiah, Archibald would never have let them in.
"Mr. Yandell, Madam Cadwell, please have a seat," Archibald offered in a lukewarm manner.
Lawrence and Yara took their seats without hesitation.
Yara looked at Zachary again. His face was delicate and pink, and his eyes were as bright as obsidian. Dressed in a bespoke suit, he appeared exceptionally distinguished.
Kiki was next to him. While she was not strikingly beautiful, she carried herself with grace as a proper young lady.
Yara recognized Kiki and thought to herself that the Torres family, despite being relatively modest, had indeed struck gold by forging a relationship with the Shaws through marriage. Despite her thoughts, Yara smiled and asked, "Kiki, do you remember me? When you and Yvvy were in college, you used to visit my house."
Kiki couldn't possibly forget Yara. She chuckled softly and forced out a smile.
"Of course, I remember you. I still recall the first time I visited your home, you threw both me and Yvvy out, saying that the daughter of a nouveau riche shouldn't have the audacity to associate with the
Snyder family."
Archibald was taken aback by this revelation. As he was particularly fond of his future granddaughter-in-law, his expression shifted from mild annoyance to a stern demeanor. "Madam Cadwell, Kiki is now the future granddaughter-in-law of the Shaw family. Are you saying that she's a social climber for being acquainted with the Snyders?"
Yara's face turned pale with shock. She quickly retorted, "There must be a misunderstanding. How could I have ever kicked Kiki out? She must have remembered it wrong."
Kiki, with a sarcastic tone, replied, "Maybe I was young and confused. It seems my memory isn't as good as yours, Madam Cadwell."
Yara was left speechless, her face burning with anger. How dared Kiki show her attitude even before marrying into high society? If the Shaw family rejected Kiki, Yara would make sure to teach her a lesson. Suppressing her rage, Yara tried to change the subject. "Mr. Shaw Senior, is this your great-grandson? He's adorable! He looks smart. He'll surely achieve great things in the future."
She attempted to pat Zachary on the head. However, Zachary's eyes grew cold as he moved away. "I don't like people touching me casually. Please have some self-respect."
Now that she had been humiliated a second time, Lawrence awkwardly stood by her side, giving her a signal to keep quiet.
This was the first time she had been treated with such disdain. However, for the sake of their future collaboration, she decided to remain silent.
Lawrence promptly shifted the focus
back to the actual purpose of their visit. "Mr. Shaw Senior, if you agree, we will buy this piece of land for ten billion dollars. There are factories nearby. If we develop property there, it won't be worth much."
Pet
Ten billion dollars was a significant amount. Previously, someone had offered 300 million dollars, which Archibald had rejected. Although ten billion dollars was not a large sum for him, it would be a waste to let the land remain unused.
Even if he couldn't be bothered to remain friendly with Lawrence, he was inclined to accept the offer out of respect for Jeremiah.
Just then, an unexpected interruption came from Zachary. He only uttered one sentence, but it left everyone in the room stunned.
