Chapter 50b - Every second counts
Molly read the report that Mary had given her. After getting halfway through it, she understood why her sister had been shaking with frustration.
“Do they really believe this boy is dead?”
Mary stared at her older sister. She was older by a few minutes and Mary was never allowed to forget that.
“The advisor is not certain, but none of their actions have revealed any other leads. You and I both know that if we are not convinced, he will not be either.”
Molly felt the anger flowing through her. She knew her eyes were red because she saw how her sister had flinched.
“I will not let us suffer because of their incompetence!” she snapped. “We will make sure that they understand there are only two options. Finding the boy and killing him or being absolutely certain he is already dead. Anything else will mean their lives.”
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
Nodding, Mary handed a second piece of paper to her sister and smiled.
“One of my favorites has already made moves, to be certain. I shall see if this girl is worth the time and effort I spent on her.”
Reading the second letter, Molly smiled and then laughed.
“Friends and family. So often, they are the ones that lead us to the prey we seek. Still, I think we should pay for the tracker.”
Frowning, Mary started to protest but stopped as her sister’s eyes glowed at her.
“It’s just money. What good is it if we are dead?” Molly asked. “The cost means nothing compared to keeping our souls.”
“But it is enough to raise an army and more…” Mary replied. “That kind of wealth can shift borders for decades.”
Putting her hands on her sister’s shoulders, Molly drew her close and stared intently into her sister’s eyes.
“And if we do not do everything we can, he can end us with a simple thought.”contemporary romance
Swallowing the lump she felt rising in her throat, Mary nodded. “I will place the request.”
Pulling her sister in for an embrace, Molly felt some of her worry ease away.
We need to hurry before he returns…
