Chapter 384
Chapter 384
Aiden abruptly turned to Alex. “Hold that thought. I’ve got a question for you. Do you know who the lady was who rescued us last
time?”
“Not really sure.” Alex said as he scratched his head in frustration. “All I know is that she was hired by Mr. Milburn. Mom even
asked me to tell Dad that she’s actually my biological mother. I don’t know much else. But I did notice she seemed to get along
well with Grandma last time I saw them together, so I’m wondering if she’s trying to marry our dad.”
Aiden nodded. “I had the same inkling. But she did save us. If we guess wrong, we might hurt her. Maybe we should just observe
for a while longer.”
Alex suddenly stood up and took a few steps back as a look of bewilderment appeared on his face. “What are you saying? What
do you mean ‘observe for a while longer’? Are you ready to accept another woman to replace Mom?”
“That’s not what I meant. Let me explain.”
“I don’t want to hear it! We’ve gone through all of this so Mom could come back, not so some other woman could take her place.
If you can accept that, then let another woman be your mom! I can’t accept it; I’m leaving!”
As Alex moved to leave, Aiden quickly grabbed him.
“Can you not be so impulsive? When did I ever say I didn’t want Mom?”
“But you just implied that you’re giving up!”
“I didn’t say that; I just said we can’t act recklessly. Running away from home to find Dad last time already caused a lot of
trouble, don’t you remember?”
Alex pouted and fell silent.
Aiden felt a headache coming on. “Our main focus right now should be finding out why Mom and Dad had a fight. Only then can
we find a solution.”
“Why did they fight? Weren’t they fine before? Was it really because of Mr. Milburn?” Alex frowned. “Then I’ll go find Mr. Milburn.
He can clear things up with Dad.”
“I’m afraid it’s not as simple as you think.”
Aiden sighed, wishing he were an adult so he could do more.
Just as Alex was about to say something, there was a knock on the door, and Aiden quickly went to answer it.
It was Sophia. She had a box of pastries in her hands and smiled at Aiden. “What are you two up to?”
“We were just reading.”
Aiden quickly invited her in and shot Alex a look, signaling for him to keep quiet about their earlier conversation.
Sophia set the pastries on the table. “Aiden, I bought these especially for you two. You must be starving. You’ve both been
through a lot and lost so much weight. My poor babies.”
Alex walked over but didn’t show the same enthusiasm he had for his grandmother before. He silently sat down and picked up a
pastry without saying a word.
Sophia noticed his displeasure and asked, “What’s wrong? Alex, are you not feeling well? You must tell me!”
“I’m fine.” Alex didn’t look up and didn’t even want to eat the pastry anymore, putting it back on the plate.
Seeing this, Aiden quickly stepped in to smooth things over. “Alex might have caught a cold when we were kidnapped. He’s been
a bit quiet these past few days.
